  • This video was found while digitizing family home movies. It's a nice shot of the full ship. From family vacation summer 1970

I enjoy seeing videos of her at work instead of at the bottom of late superior

Tim, how do you like new ship? Any rough weather last week?

Truthfully in 1970, despite her local popularity, to visitors the Fitz was just another ore carrier passing thru the Locks.

In 1975 after my graduation from high school, October of that year, I wanted to get a job working on that ship, it was my dream to get a job and working, sailing on the Great Lakes shipping industry. Didn't get the job, though, was disappointed.

Shame you didn’t get to work on such a legendary and beautiful ship, but at least you were lucky enough to not be on board that night!

Wonder if that's the Anderson at the 11-second mark?

I wish she was still sailing like the Anderson, Munson, and Jackson do (all about the same age as the Fitz would have been).

It's a little sad seeing the workers aboard the Fitz, knowing at some point later, the outcome. Rip

...in all her glory...! Was the captain blasting music on this particular day? One of them was known to do that regularly.

Peter Pulcer was the Fitz captain who’d blare Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass on the ships loudspeakers. I would have preferred the ship to be known by Herb Alpert music versus Gordon Lightfoot.

Why so anti Gordon Lightfoot? Its a beautiful song. I'll play some Herb Albert tonight for you 🙂

It defiantly looks like one of the AAA Class Freighters. It looks like it also has the Great Lakes Fleet colors on it's stack. It also could have been the Arthur M. Anderson, or Cason J. Calloway.
