Kelly Pickens sent me hear the day after Gordon Lightfoot passed away, may he RIP. Awesome version, Brian. Nice touch mentioning the names of those that lost their lives that day. I don't think I've ever loved a song so much that made me sad and want to cry.
Can't beat Lightfoot's original version, and thanks to him for his fantastic musical memorial to the 29 lost souls..but how wonderful for Mr. Burns to perform a version that beautifully and respectfully mentions each member of the crew. . Rest in peace, gentlemen, and you'll never be forgotten.
Gordan MacLellan was my cousin. My Grand Father was depressed for quite a while after this, I know he had a lot of love for the ship and it's crew. It seems like a long time ago to most. To me, it's like yesterday. It was the only time I ever saw Grandpa cry.
Fantastic tribute to the crew .. and Gordon Lightfoot ... Brian Burns ... one of the best voices in music and great group of musicians backing him , hats off to you men
For this song, and the rest of the Heavy Weather album, all the musicians backing him are... him. Brian played every instrument when he recorded it. At one point, he told me he lost 15lbs recording the drum tracks. 😂
My friends father was THOMAS BORGESAN maintenance man on the EDMUND FITZGERALD. BRIAN BURNS PUTS A TEAR IN MY EYE AND LUMPS IN MY THROAT. GOD BLESS FOR THOSE THAT BELIEVE AND DO NOT FORGET SACRAFICES MADE BY OTHERS
I grew up listening to the story around the campfire every year and just this year I Got to touch one of the life vests from the Fitz, sent chills down my spine.
I have the honor of counting Brian among my friends, fantastic musician and a hell of a great guy! I don’t usually like covers of iconic songs, but I’m pretty partial to this one!
I have that same honor. His albums are incredible, but you never get the full musician experience until you buy him enough tequila shots to do the Beatles medley in a little bar. And great guy is an understatement!
@@westbounddesign4531 awesome, he’s a hell of a guy! I went on a “Texas music cruise” with him years ago, that was a blast! 4 days at sea with Brian, Tommy Alverson & Bob Livingston- best vacation ever! If you run across ole’ BB anytime soon, tell him I said hello, and I sure miss his music & hanging out with him!
@@markoehler2752 He was trying to talk my wife and I into going, but we were young and broke at the time. I'm sure it was a hell of a cruise, especially with the Cosmic Cowboy on board! I haven't seen him in a long while, but I think my In-laws still run into him, so I will definitely have them pass it along for you!
As a child of the sixties, Gordon Lightfoot will always own this song. It's hard to hear anyone else singing it. That said, I must say that Brian Burns does a fabulous cover. The audio is excellent and I do like the deeper tones of the music. Adding the names of the crew is genius.
this song is so amazing.Brian really brings it home.yes teared up .first time I heard this version was on sirius but couldnt remember the artist. If Brian never records another song this is the greatest cover ever .
2:16-2L19 turne out to be inaccurate so Gordon changed the lyric to "at 7 PM it grew dark it was then" yet never re-recorded the song with the revision
@@danbasta3677 what makes this song better is the added bells and the marine diesel cat in the background then name every person on the ship. Even Gordon Lightfoot admitted this verison is better
@@davidalexander828 Thats exactly it....its just performed in an entirely different way, with the original track being like some somber church hymn or something, while this one is a bit more upbeat.....that said, id give Gordon's version a little advantage over this one,if for no other reason than it being the original, as well as the time it came out, with the cultural significance regarding the subject of the song

When Brian recites the names in this version, it sends chills all over my body every time!!! I don't usually like covers but this one is exceptional!!
Absolutely.

She went down 10 minutes after I was born on that day. My father still has the newspaper of the situation. Rip mariners ❤

This is still my favorite version of this song. Brian Burns is one of my favorite artists besides Johnny Horton when it comes to historical songs.
The tears just poured down my face as I listened to this especially when he recites the names of each crew member.

On my video someone posted a comment that his wife a relative of a crew member.
A cousin Bliane Wilhelm was an oiler on the ship. This is a great cover and the naming of the crew members really adds to it.
😢

adding the names and a marine diesel engine sounds and the bell ringing for every man really adds to it. This cover can't be beat

Those bells.... Gives me chills everytime when he names off all the names.
This is a FANTASTIC cover.
I also appreciated its very unique, and non-traditional stereo mix! 👍🏻
Nice Job! The adding of the crew's names was a nice touch.
You also matched Gordon voice perfectly. [2 thumbs way up]
What a fantastic voice! Thanks so much for sharing! Enjoyed my listen very much!
A real great cover ! Thanks for posting !
When Brian says the names it just haunts me but good song

Love Gordon's version, but this is a 100 times better! God Bless Brian and Texas!
Nope, Gordon Merideth Lightfoot is much better, after all, he wrote the song and performed it.
@@danbasta3677 what makes this song better is the added bells and the marine diesel cat in the background then name every person on the ship. Even Gordon Lightfoot admitted this verison is better
Brian captures the spirit of this song WOW!

May god rest the souls of the 29 men who perished that fateful night

Rest in peace for the 29 Irishman that died that day of the summer of 1975
I don't understand your reference to Irishmen, or summer, when talking about this event.

Texas lrish country song
Lovely song, great rendition - can you please correct the description to "dimension"? "demention" is incorrect and actually sounds bad. :(
