What a blessing that this young man made known his desire to herd reindeer, and this lovely couple gave him the means and opportunity! The other threads woven throughout, of his father working to preserve the Sámi language, the encroachment of the timber companies, and the timeline of the lichen growth, all enrich this amazing story. Thank you for sharing this gift with us.
Incredible - in every single way! The visuals are captivating, the narrative is heart warming, the message incredibly inspiring. Mattias - you can be SUPER proud of this beautiful story that took our breath away. Justine and Michael (Reflections of Life).
"And they say it's better to give with a warm hand than a cold one..."what a beautiful and wise sentiment. Something Leif and Isabell are doing for Daniel, and something Mattias is doing for all of us. Thank you so much Mattias for bringing such love, joy, beauty and wisdom into our lives with all of your films.
Greetings from Northern California USA. Absolutely a wonderful documentary. So many cultures and tradition dying out. THIS one must be preserved for sure❤
Watched it on your site but came here to boost it socially. That was tremendous; thanks. The narrative arc was unexpected, from whistful, almost naïve change in life circumstances to social, ethnic and environmental commentary. Beautifully crafted filmmaking. Yes, the machine marches through the popularly imagined Scandutopia too.
Scandutopia is a great term. My daughter completed YIP in Jarna this year and we visited her there from the UK. Things might not be as perfect as people in the wider world perceive but the rest of the planet is SO poorly managed that you still have something to hold on to, to celebrate and to build on.
Yeah, that's so true, and seeing the 3 folk in the film, living beautiful, wilder lives, shows that nevertheless those outsiders' views have some truths in them. Tak så mycket, eller hui ollu giitu!
Beautiful film. What hardy folks to continue on such a lifestyle and tradition and to want to ensure that a long-time tradition continues for another generation. Stories like this give me some hope in humanity. Thank you to everyone involved for sharing this with the world. PS- it would be wonderful to see a follow-up in the next 5-10 years to see how this all worked out.
Hermosa historia. Admirable el interés del joven por ser pastor de renos y enternecedora la generosidad de ese matrimonio. Un documental etnográfico muy interesante.
I can't say what I love most..The scenery, the photographic view or the story ? So Real So touching. Keep Creating these are marvelous Stories !Congratulations from Greece. With respect, your new friend Lemonia.
These are important stories. Much more important than most of what's out there (on TH-cam, online, on screen). I'm a discerning spender (I paid a whop for Masterclass for a year but not a cent to Spotify ever because its freemium blasts me with ads all the time). This is second campfire doccie (first one was once upon a forest), and it will be my first patreon subscription. More, please!
This was a beautiful documentary, very moving for me. The fact that these people found each other so that a beautiful legacy could be passed on. And the young man who received this legacy could live his dream using the language that embraces and expands upon it. Their exchange is both practical but also full of heart and soul. Many blessings to all who were involved.
Thank you, Mattias, for this wonderful documentary. So much to learn from this! Such deep insights and amazing visuals! The relationship and mentorship between Daniel, Leif and Isabell is more than inspiring. It touches the heart! Now I'm a new subcriber!
I just subscribed to your channel. I am an American who moved to France 10 years ago and I am seeing more and more of traditions - especially those involving natural processes such as planting, farming, and herding like here, are in so much danger because of politicians and others in power destroying the earth...what can be done....I hope this young man raises a family of his own or is able, one day, to find more young people to keep this tradition going. Thank you so much for your work and I wish you so much more success with this project to share what is happening in our world. I can not join your Patreon at the moment due to serious financial problems I am faced with but I will share your videos on social media and hope that will inspire others to be able to help you. xxx
Wow beautiful story! Your films are amazing! Preserving the sami culture in nowadays time is so precious and valuable!❤i just returned home from my recent sweden vacation. Would be awesome to meet you guys and have a Tika chat together! Warm regards from Germany
Having grown up in suburbia, I have slowly come to appreciate the people that are tied to the land. Or the ocean too. But to the City, I am not tied by any feeling of belonging. Just being in a bustling city with things to do and places to go to and money to be made and nice things to have. It's just a bit artificial. Don't you think?
Does the herd belong to him? Or does he belong to the herd? For that matter, does the deer belong in the forest? And the snow? And so does he. He's just another member of the herd. He lives their life too, the life in the snow and the woods.
Does he need someone to help him with his cooking and domestic tasks? It's my dream to live in a cold atmosphere with a rugged man and being close to nature. 😅😉. Also, the film is beautiful: thank you making this and sharing with the world.
Not that I'm in any way saying she's doing the cooking and domestic tasks, I'm sure they're sharing those duties. She's actually a reindeer herder too from what I understand.
Are they giving their life and livelihood to him? Or is he giving them the son that they didn't have? He is also giving them and their legacy his own life. It's not like he will sell the place or just be a weekend herder. No. He's ready for it the life. Sometimes we just have to be sure of a thing and then ask. It seems that in this world a lot can be possible, but we have to choose wisely and then ask sincerely. And then it's funny how our wished seem to be granted.
