Hey Nick, I was texting to see if you could figure board feet on rough cut lumber that is stacked up. I have a stack of hickory that is 4 feet wide by 5 feet tall each board 9 foot long and each board is 1 inch thick. Is there any way to figure a rough estimate of how many board feet
Are you asking a total amount of board feet for the stack or for each piece? For the total stack board feet seems to be around 2,160. That’s provided that the pieces are stacked tight to each other without gaps.
I would simply take the width of the stack (in inches) multiplied by the thickness of the stack (in inches), multiplied by the length of the stack (in feet). Divide that total number by 12 to get board feet.
I would suggest taking the dimensions of your project and seeing how many boards you will need. Then by using the dimensions of each board, you can find the total board feet needed.
Thank you for not leaving me confused. Now I think I'm smarter than a 5th grader. Your explanations and direction, I had no trouble following.
Glad I could help!
Great video
Thanks!

Cheers mate
Hardwood is not always the same width on both ends, how do you calculate that
@@jamesduke5032 take a measurement at each end and take the average of the two
How do you calculate bf for a stack of lumber?

@@RockyRiverWoodworks this comment/answer is just as good as the video. Thanks.
How do I know how much I’ll need for a project???

Are you trying to cheat us out of an inch
Not intentionally. Did I miss something?
