I’m in Huntington Station NY and buy from Urban Specialty Woods in Huntington Station. Great place, super helpful owners! I also buy from Woodcraft in Allentown PA when visiting my son and I just bought a bunch of stuff from Case Woodworking when I was visiting Savannah!
Loved the info. In Stockton California I go to MacBeath hardwood. They are very knowledgeable and more than happy to answer your questions and help you
One tip I dont see ever mentioned on any of these TH-cam videos is check out online auctions in your area. I found a company in Wisconsin (where I live) that was an hour away from me (they have auctions all over the state) and it was an online auction for mostly walnut and maple air dried slabs. They did have some kiln dried too. Obviously they don't have those wood auctions every day, so you have to keep an eye out. But the companies are usually really good about posting what items their next auction is going to have. I got 6 walnut slabs and 1 maple slab for $10/a slab. For the ENTIRE slab. It was $10. Plus a 10% auction fee. So I got 7 slabs for not even $100. Yes, you'll need to dry them the rest of the way, but sometimes they do have kiln dried wood in there as well. So I'd definitely suggest checking out online auction companies in your area. Obviously speak to them, make sure they're a legitimate company and everything. But not only was I able to purchase those slabs for so cheap, but I also got the guys name and number who cut the wood. So now I also have a lumber guy that'll cut any slab to any size I want. Just something I wanted to share so other people are aware of that avenue too.
Northwest Lumber in Indianapolis has a great selection of domestics and carries some exotics. They are less expensive on most woods than Rockler or Woodcraft and have a better selection.
Great video and nice to see you back! Here in the SF Bay Area, I like the choice of hardwoods at MacBeath's in Berkeley. I am pretty much a novice but they were welcoming and I didn't feel intimidated in asking 'dumb' questions.
Love to see the Seattle Kraken sticker already up on the drum sander. Great vid! In Perth, Australia we have a few options but your domestics (my exotics) are pretty expensive. We have jarrah, marri, karri locally here which are pretty nice.
Excellent video thank you. Here in San Diego North County (Carlsbad, Oceanside, Vista, Escondido, San Marcos), my favorite is San Marcos Hardwood Lumber Company. Great Stock, and very patient folks who know their woods. This is good for me as I am a General Contractor, whose hobby is woodworking which is an entirely different world.
This was a great video, lots of good info. I’m in Winston Salem NC and I get my hard woods from Wall Lumber in Mayodan NC , you can find it online.. Great Deals!
Anyone living in southern Ontario Canada. There is a place in Niagara Called the Woodshed. Great selection of wood and lumber for many types of wood working projects.
If your out of the Central Valley in California. Saroyan Hardwoods in Fresno,CA has an awesome selection. Highly recommend them. Their staff is very knowledgeable and helpful.
I love going to Rockler. As you said, they have all kinds of wood but they also have accessories like clocks, speaker kits, knives really any thing you need to complete your project making it a one stop shop or at least you can get most of what you need which I don't have a lot of time to shop around so it is great.
I’m also in the seattle area and love crosscut! I haven’t been to Edensaw yet and will have to check that out. Two other great online options are KJP Hardwoods and Ocooch Hardwoods. The latter has excellent (online) prices for both S2S and S4S hardwoods. I’ve ordered from both for myself and as gifts for family members and appreciated the quality.
Thanks for the recommendations! Just started perusing Ocooch online. Maybe spent way too much money for a bunch of exotics. Shipping isn’t too bad considering, but finding yellow heart and killer prices on Wenge were too good to pass up.
That’s awesome! I’d love to hear know how the order comes out. I have only ordered the 8/4 S2S walnut so far and it was really nice. Definitely had some rough spots but a lot of really nice usable wood and 1.5bft more than ordered.
This is really helpful. I'm in Kitsap County, originally from PT, and just getting into wood craft. Now I have another excuse to go visit my mom up in PT.
Thank you so much for this! I’m a beginner but really love building simple things such as signs and easy furniture pieces. I work a lot with recycled pallet wood but more often now am wanting to make nicer quality pieces. This video was amazing! Subscribed! And yes I fall victim to the large store lumber aisles...hoping to find some quality lumber yards nearby. Thank u!
Great video. I've been asking around for a lumberyard where I can pick up some S4S lumber for floating shelves and everyone has mentioned Edensaw, just a short drive from Poulsbo. Glad to hear you recommend them! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!!!
Great video, thanks for this! I am from the UK, and like you said, it is really difficult, if not, expensive to get decent exotic wood here. There are some lumber yards that import exotic woods but the prices are unbelievable, if anyone can recommend places in the UK to get fairly priced wood, that will be great. I'm new to wood working, so I really don't have much experience in sourcing decent materials to use.
I'M in the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia and I've found Reimer Hardwoods in Kelowna and Windsor Plywood in Vernon to be very good sources for hardwoods. Jim Jacques
The formula I use is width of board by the length times the thickness divided by 12 and if it's straight lined 1 edge it's 1.1 example 12inx10ft x2×1.1÷12=22bf I am not saying it's the only way but another formula. That is the formula I used to recieve the lumber at the lumber yard
In Orange County I use strata forest products in Santa Ana, Weber plywood (only place that has 4x8 sheets of Baltic birch as well as lots of hardwood), and reel lumber service. Strata usually has higher prices. Reel has best pricing and selection, and the nicest people, but is farthest from me.
This is super helpful. I live in Monroe so I have to go check out the Duvall place. It looks they have a great selection for real. Thanks for the video
Muito bonita as variedades de madeiras, roxinho é umas das mais linda aqui do Brasil, mais tem muitas que vejo nos seus vídeos que é impossível achar aqui, Maple é uma das mais lindas... ... parabéns excelente vídeo!!!

Where do I get these woods... I'm in Africa.... its expensive getting them online... 😊 and hv also read some sellers cheat on what they sell.. at least I can get mahogany in my country imports from DRC
Cool presentation. I would have been interested if you might have touched on wood moisture content but hey; there’s always one more thing to talk about. Here in Ontario I’ve had good success buying at Century Lumber in London, Ontario. Smaller than your lots but a decent variety available. Cheers!
Yeah, had a list of another 5-6 topics. But opted to cut it short. I do have a short video on moisture content here: th-cam.com/video/5qdLxTAKCb8/w-d-xo.html Thanks for the tip on your lumber dealer!
I'm from Ontario Canada and I use 2 places, 1 called the Wood Shed and the other called Exotic Woods. Both places are awesome

NorCal - I love, love, love Z&E Slabs. So much selection and competitive pricing. Ian is super knowledgeable.

I'm wondering about using exotic hardwoods with higher toxicity like padouk on cutting boards: How do you make them food safe?
most people cover it in food safe plastic coatings "finishes".
