    I had a 4 door Nissan that did the exact same as everyone else's vehicles. 1 inch of snow, and it was done. I put mud and snow tires on it with studs. It was the best 4x4 car I ever had after that. Be safe. Take care.

      @richcran7975 I drive my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee in it with zero problems. My 2020 truck is the one I don't trust yet. I had one of those vehicles you have in the 90's. Subaru station wagon. On I80. Snow and ice. Hwy was just about closed. I had to go to a town at 64 miles away for supplies. I was doing 65mph. Everyone else was doing 40mph or less. Amazing vehicles.

    To put this into perspective, we had freezing rain for 36 hours prior to this 10" snowfall. 1/4" of ice on the roads that was covered with snow. That is the reason for the 4wd vehicles having trouble.

    Our daughter and son in-law born and raised in SoCal moved to Sioux Falls in early June of this year due to a fantastic job offer and pay. We visited them and our grandchildren in late August for seven full days. We're also SoCal people, and the scenery and the weather was great for swimming and doing so many things outdoors in such a stark contrast of what we have here in SoCal. I could handle the cold to a certain degree, though my petite wife(grandma) would simply suffer in excruciating pain from those cold snowy condition, especially the wind chill factor. We talked about going for the holidays, though flying there is too much of an uncertainty. We'll be there in early March, though still a bit cold for the arrival of our new baby granddaughter. To say that our daughter and grandchildren are experiencing harsh cold conditions is an understatement. Man, our low 60's here in SoCal is more than bearable for my wife.

      Born and Raised in Wisconsin, so I have an idea of what "cold" means.
      South Dakota can get downright frigid in winter, much colder than some places in Wisconsin.
      Also - hate to say it for your loved ones - but this weather you see? It gets colder than this. Much colder. Much much colder. You can hear how wet the snow is, which means its likely in the high 20s, low 30s. When the snow crunches under your feet (because its so dry), then its cold. Add in the wind, and yeah, they should be investing heavily in good winter gear.

      Moved there from SoCal myself. I lasted 3 winters before selling my house and moving to a warmer climate.
      It’s crazy affordable there but kinda not much to do besides bars and restaurants.
      Anything below zero tends to feel the same. Have several weeks in a row worth of -15 to -20 temps does take some adapting to.

      I live in Sioux Falls and am not shocked. People don't drive with chains on here. The vast majority of the time they would just be an unnecessary pain.
      Everybody driving with chains would be very bad for the streets too. Maybe not a problem if there is a reasonably thick layer of snow/ice, but plows would be busy clearing streets as people drive around with chains on.

    This footage brought to you by Michelin CrossClimate tires. Because if you aren't going to swap winter tires on your car, at least buy all-season tires designed to handle this mess.
    I feel bad for the folks trying to catch that Allegiant flight to warmer climes. They were so close to getting out of town ahead of this mess!

    • @mitch1348
      @mitch1348 ปีที่แล้ว

      CrossClimate - the first true "all season" that can handle snow, and still be composed during the summer months. Its a technological marvel, to be honest. I see more and more folks equipping them on vehicles here in Wisconsin. I've recommended them 3 people (who actually bought them), and they can't say enough about how good they are.

    What about to use WINTER TIRES, snow chains or tire socks, AND APPROPRIATE DRIVING SKILLS . Spoiler: PTTM is always the worst decision. If the weather conditions are bad perhaps the best decision ist NOT to drive. Every year the same funny situation, people not able to adapt their driving habits to the road conditions.

    • @bijk1911
      @bijk1911 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thing that sucks about all wheel drive is you have to lose traction for it to engage and even then, traction control system will often cut power when you start sliding around... It does help to turn off the electronic nannies though (traction control, stability control) which I think would have helped them. They should have stuck with 4wd rigs (Tahoes).
