This has got to be the most underrated song in history. I just discovered this song recently and I have fallen in love with this song. The voice, the guitars, everything is just beautiful. The sultry sound of Alannah's voice and the rock sound is beautiful. Why is this song not remembered? I played this song to my friends and they never heard of it.
Thank you mom for showing me this song years ago and thank you Jujubee for the reminder. I can’t believe it was on Grand Theft Auto and I didn’t know it. Anybody listening in 2020?
Hell yeah! You'll never beat the old songs~ I feel like the newer songs of 2020 have lost most of that important something, you know? Just doesn't have what the old songs do
The fact that this song is actually about my cousin (thank you Family Ancestry for pointing out that I'm related to Elvis) and I'd already grown up loving this song. Now I love this song even more
Saw her play this live at a local music festival when I was a child with my mother and 3 older siblings . I don't remember much from it but the way allanah looked and sounded singing black velvet is still very vivid in mind. I was around 8 .
This was my grandmothers song 💗 I miss you like crazy 👼🏽 Los Santos Rock Radio :) This song is about Elvis. I remember my mom use to sing this song to me when I was a baby....I miss my mother
First heard this over 20 years ago in a jukebox in Wick, Scotland. My daughter used to put the money in for me to listen to it. It really rocked and I love Elvis, the reference in the song. I don't care what connotations it has for anyone, I just love it.
I didn't realise this song was written about Elvis Presley. When you know that & listen to the lyrics again, it's so obvious. These lyrics do reflect how sensual & sexual Elvis was & the impact he had on people. What a great loss when he died. He's as relevant today as he was in 50's-70's. Forty years gone on 16.08.2017.
I remember my mom use to sing this song to me when I was a baby....I miss my mother This song is about Elvis. Gone but never forgotten Ode to the King. She's got a great voice.
Listened to this song over-and-over again, sitting in my dingy, dirty, dank motel inn room in Ft. Campbell, KY while training for 63T during early 1990. Still love the song, though!
I am actually named after this song. My mom fell in love this song and when I was born she couldn't think of any other name and named me Velvet. As I gotten older on my 10th birthday my mom introduced me to this song and told me I was named after this song. Also what's also unique is I only wear black clothes 😆. So this song definitely suits me and I am happy my mom named me after Alannah Myles song Black Velvet. I am now 24 years old and when my birthday comes along I always listen to this song ❤️
Gracias por subir este vídeo. Me pregunto porque recién me aparece ahora indirectamente y no cuando realice la búsqueda directamente 🎵🤔 En fin, gracias de nuevo por compartir este temazo 🎵🙌
I got to listen to my boyfriend's sister sing this during part of her birthday party yesterday and it was BEAUTIFUL and it made me wanna listen to the song again which is awesome because I hadn't heard it in forever

My Aunt tried to battle me at this song and lost so now I love singing it. And it was my first time listening to it when she battled me. It is a great song and has wonderful lyrics
You literally read my damn mind! Had a dream last night that I was at Caesars palace and the pussycat dolls were on their poles while this song was going, haha! Loove this frieking song so much!
There's nothing wrong with trying on heels in black lipstick, late at night when you should be asleep. You're asking yourself what does this have to do with this song... The answer: YES
+Andrew Hague it certainly feels like 6/8, and most places I can find on the internet concur, though 1 guy said 12/8. It's unusual in a popular song, the majority of which are in 4
I think you need a bit of music education Michael. 12/8 is 4 beats per bar (compound time) and 6/8 2 beats per bar (compound) You could say that this is in 12/8 and you could write it in 12/8, but most people would write it in 4/4 and with appropriate symbols to indicate that the beat is swung in a 2:1 ratio. In 12/8 or 6/8 each beat is a dotted 1/4 note. Much jazz and all swing is written in 4/4 and the musicians simply swing the beat. There is a big difference in feel between swung 4/4 and true 12/8.
Thank you Michael. Why are you raggin' on Michael? Geez! Calm down. It's a great song just listen and be mesmerized. That's Country Blues better than most I've ever heard! I've had bands for over 40 years. I may not be "formally" educated in music theory but I can certainly feel the 6/8 in the cadence. Who cares?? Enjoy the song!!
That voice can almost make you feel the humidity in the air on that hot summer afternoon in Mississippi...Love this song.
The power and range.. the voice she had.. My god.. Incredible... Unbelievable.... She was truly remarkable.... Pure talent..

Nice job Nikoletta. I wonder if Nicoletta ever covered this song? 😊
I never knew until a few years ago that it was as about Elvis.
A lot of people don't know it's about Elvis & that's sad. Absolutely love this song.

I've always loved Alannah Miles' version of this the best. So much soul and feeling in it...
