WOW!!! Waynos totally played down the day when he described it as "amazing". It seemed to me that it was more like "BARKING AMAZING!!!". How did Ebenezer ever manage to keep his clothes on?
If there was ever a group of people who I'd like to see find a relic full virgin spot, it would be all of the stealth diggers. That was an epic day. Congratulations to all of you! It was a joy to watch. Can't wait for the return visits!!! Dame, you may have found a Conestoga horse shoe. Imagine the importance of that find if that's true. I would love to own a piece of history like that. That's why I want a Conestoga bell sooooo bad.
Maybe it was just wishful thinking on my part because of the size. I did a little research and found next to nothing. What I did find is that Draft horses were also very large and were used during logging operations. That would make sense also.
Holy moly!!!!!! Buttons, buttons you found the mother load of all sites!!!!👍 Thank god for little girls!!! You’re going to need a separate case to hold all these finds and more to come!! Awesome guys👍👍👍
It's so nice remembering everything leading up to this epic day. I'm surprised Ebenezer didn't have every young man within 50 mile radius volunteering to help stack stone walls. Dame's discovery near the large stones really put it all in perspective. Great job clearing the spot Dame. Thanks for sharing the hunt and finds. Take care.
Peace Pipe Sweetened. Cracked a Hi-Life. Lighter at hand. Strapped in Millenium Facon Style in front of my trusty 2010 MacBook and ready for this episode.
I believe congratulations are in order for all of you, that was find after find and I totally loved watching. Thank you for sharing your epic button bonanza lol and the other goodies that you all found. As Terry said I don't remember hearing so many good targets on the detectors then he fell asleep just before Dame teased the beautiful shoe buckle out, he went be happy bless him. Take care my friends, good luck and happy hunting. God bless you Mary-Ellen LFOD
@@diggerdame4709 I shall as he likes buckles and if he detected I am sure that would be at the top of his bucket list lol. I love bells and thimbles but my love is coins and I have some lovely ones that I enjoy having. Take care sweetheart Mary-Ellen LFOD
What a day you guys had! At the 19:31 mark the button there sure looks similar to the design that I found near Augusta last year. Head spinning day Charlie. Congratulations to Waynos and Digger D, Tim and you, Charlie
Extraordinary site. Untouched splendor in the woods. So much in that chimney stack. could it have been a burn down? I think I actually saw Dame tuckered out...and it was nice to see DC digging with abandon and running up the score. Love to know what happened there to produce so many lost buttons. All and all a great day glad I got to see it
We don't believe it to be a burn down Tin Man as we suspect that the house fell in the direction that I was finding the window sills on and the glass was not melted.
Daaaaayum, you weren't kidding when you said some awesome videos were coming up - wow! That's a dream site. Can't wait to see what else you find, and congrats to Dame on that shoe buckle frame!
Great video!!! It Looked like a beautiful day with Amazing finds and lots of laughs!!! Congratulations on the Beautiful buckle Dame!!! Keep up the great work guys!!
Hi Charlie and guys, Wow wow wow, what an awesome day, Congratulations all of you, amazing finds, but that buckle, you had me holding my breath Dame while you was digging it out. 😰 And cuff links also, but all those buttons, awesome. Love the close up shots you do Charlie and waynos water pics, nice. Was so excited to see a long video pop up. I said a while ago, it's going to be an extraordinary epic year... 🤭👌🏻🥄
This is the year! What a start you guys are having! Pretty much run out of exclamations to describe this day. With all that, you dug a buttonless shank! Certainly a hunt for the ages!!! LFOD!
I found a horseshoe similar to that one in a abandoned logging camp in NE Minnesota. It measures 7 1/2 inches wide by 7 1/2 inches long. It has cleats for hauling sleds loaded with logs on the ice roads.
omg its ebenezers place👍what a place😀love the history for this place charlie😎congrats charlie on buttonless shank 😃 tim an wayno great finds 😀dame sometimes you got to do what u gotta do 😄
I love re-watching this one! The small ball buttons could also be from a ladies blouse. Those blouses were called “shirtwaists”, or at least they were called that in the late 1800’s. When a little girl “grew up”, (13 ish maybe?) her mom would stop making her dresses to wear, she graduated to a shirt waist and skirt-but the skirt didn’t reach the ground. They didn’t reach the ground until mom decreed it.😎
That awesome Shank was truly an epic moment ! So many buttons ! How cool is that? Keebs missed out big-time ! What a day for SDN ! And Dame finding that shoe buckle...WOW
Would have thought there'd be maybe a thimble or two. Then again if they could sew you probably wouldn't have had this day. Great hunt I love the old buttons myself.
I guess we learned the more kids you have, the more buttons you lose. I can see the family doing very hard work on their homestead & easily knocking off some of the huge buttons.
Awesome hunt guys and an outstanding video, Charlie, congratulations! I have just recently discovered a similar site out in the woods here in PA that appears to be relatively untouched (except for being leveled by farming up through the 1930s) and is yielding a lot of buttons so far, but nothing to the extent of what you guys are getting yet. No trace at all of any foundation though, and I can't see anything but fields or pasture on the aerial photos from late 1930s. I just discovered this place about a month ago and with my AT Pro and NEL Thunder coil I've pulled out over a dozen flat and tomb buttons and one blowhole button, all in an area of probably about 70' X 70'. The buttons have been fairly deep maybe 6-10" on average but a few weren't quite as deep. The thing that really almost made me faint, though, was a 1790 4 Reales with Mexico City mint mark, in beautiful condition and not deep! I found a heavily corroded 1802 largie maybe 100 feet west, then a #2 crotal bell a little farther west, then a toasted largie, a slick 27 mm holed probably halfpence or maybe VA or VT copper (no way to ID it), and somewhat corroded 1866 Indian Head and I865 2 cent about 200 feet west... all of those were 3" or less deep. There was a tavern not too far away and a farm building or maybe two about exactly on that site, but the old 1850s maps are pretty inaccurate, so I don't know if I'm onto the tavern site itself. I have no clue if the foundation could simply be buried with the top of it maybe only a few inches deep, plowed over maybe in the 1870s or so. Need to try a little test digging if I can to see if I hit foundation stones, crockery, bottles, etc, but for now I just want to keep detecting and really go slow and try to grid and be patient like I've (gratefully) learned from you. Regarding the wealth of buttons, it's interesting to hear everyone's conjecture, and that's about all we can do is guess at this time. I'm no expert at all, but IMHO, while this family was heavily engaged in farming for their livelihood and survival, I don't think these buttons were worn during the actual hardest work of farming - clearing, plowing, cultivation, planting, animal husbandry and such. I think these dandy buttons & tombacs were on their Sunday best waistcoats etc. and the farming clothes would've had maybe wood or bone/horn buttons, dunno if they would've used any ceramics or glass or maybe lead for work clothes. I think most of the stuff you and I are finding was probably gilded especially those with intricate fancy patterns. My theory is that these were dropped randomly over time during family get togethers for holidays, outings to church on Sunday, other social gatherings at the house where kids would be playing, singing, dancing, etc. Life was harder then, so even going out in your best waistcoat with dandy buttons required getting on and off a horse or in and out of a carriage or sleigh, then probably having to fetch water or go to the outhouse or feed/milk animals while still dressed up from that outing. I've found 4 of the exact same button scattered pretty widely, so I think that's attrition from the same waistcoat over time with buttons being added as replacements for the lost ones. Some commenters had some morbid theories too, and I highly doubt that you and I are finding anything like that given the scatter pattern and depth.
Just have to say I was adrift in the continuum bcuz I knocked my flux capacitor out of alignment by accidentally playing out of order but made it back to the now safe and sound
That hole Dame found could easily been a hole for ground storage of food to keep it fresh through the winter. Farmers or settlers would dig separate holes, 1 for each vegetable. So after digging the hole , they would line it with rocks then fresh hay. Then put in the lined pit either potatoes, onions, even apples. Then, they cover the mound with a combination of rocks, dirt, hay, and boards. Put up a makeshift door so no varmints can steal the food, and all winter you have fresh vegetables or fruits. By the end of a winter season, the foods would begin to get “mushy”-eatable but not great. Then, the summer comes and planting starts the process all over. Just a bit of trivia.😎
