  • Roswell is a city in, and the seat of, Chaves County in the U.S. state of New Mexico. Chaves County forms the entirety of the Roswell micropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 48,411, making it the fifth-largest city in New Mexico. It is home to the New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI), founded in 1891. The city is also the location of an Eastern New Mexico University campus. Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge is located a few miles northeast of the city on the Pecos River. Bottomless Lakes State Park is located 12 miles (19 km) east of Roswell on US 380.
The Roswell UFO incident was named after the town, though the crash site of the alleged UFO was some 75 miles (121 km) from Roswell and closer to Corona. The investigation and debris recovery was handled by the local Roswell Army Air Field. In the 1930s, Roswell was a site for much of Robert H. Goddard's early rocketry work. The Roswell Museum and Art Center maintain an exhibit that includes a recreation of Goddard's rocket engine development workshop.
Roswell's tourism industry is based on aerospace engineering and ufology museums and businesses, as well as alien-themed and spacecraft-themed iconography. The city also relies on New Mexico and Americana-related tourism.
In this video, JOM of the Gravel Cyclist crew conducts an informal and rather unplanned tour of Roswell, New Mexico. Unfortunately, there are no proper alien sightings, unless you count the tourist type that proliferates town.

Nice tour. I would not have guessed that Roswell is as large as it appeared, even allowing for how prairie towns tend to build outward rather than upward.
I hope you continue doing these mini-tours even after the pandemic eases and we’re all able to travel again. It’s fun to see places one has never visited (and might not ever), and the saddle of a bicycle provides the perfect vantage point, at just the right speed.

That is a pecan orchard at 12:19. New Mexico is consistently in the top 3 in pecan production in the US, along with Texas and Georgia.

Thank you, I was totally unaware that NM was in the top three.

It could also have been a pistachio orchard. Lots of pistachios grown in and around Roswell. CA, AZ, and NM are the top 3 pistachio producing states. I'm no arborist but I'd put money on those trees being pistachio or pecan.

Hopefully you made sure to eat some green chile while you were there. New Mexico has some of the best food in the world! But for back in Gainesville try La Tienda, they have some decent food. Las Pasaditas does well also.

Holy crap, the green chile there is so so good! I'm ruined. I know the two establishments you refer to well, but anything in Florida just isn't in the same league, IMHO.

hey bud! I love the videos, you give it how it is and you're truthful about it! I have a question for you, I was planning on moving to Roswell soon. I'm a blue collar hard worker and I'm looking for a complete change of scenery. I threw a dart at a map of the u.s. and it landed in roswell which is why I'm choosing to move there. is that a mistake? and if so where is the coolest place you've been that I could possibly move to with my 3 year old son

My Daughter is moving there in the early spring. I'M thinking of coming out with her as we need to be there for each other. Due to health reasons. Air is not as humid as Tennessee. Would like information about Roswell.

Hello Reba, I'm not a local, this was a relatively informal tour video of me rolling around Roswell. You may want to look at the City of Roswell website, and other local resources.

I thought that Historical Museum house looked like a Frank Lloyd Wright design.
"This stately home of James Phelps White, a Roswell landmark since it's construction in 1910, now stands amidst towering elms as the Chaves County Historical Museum; a reminder of turn of the century life in southeastern New Mexico.
With it's gently sweeping rooflines, and large porches, the yellow brick home is a grand example of the prairie-style house developed by Frank Lloyd Wright."
