Fan power consumption is based on the mode in which the fan operates. Usually fans have 3 to 4 speeds that determine the power consumption of the fan.

Hmm interesting, especially since I prefer to sleep with a fan on as white noise at night. But it's still much more preferable to running an A/C... it's about a $20-$30 increase on my electric bill I've noticed when using it during the summer. I live on the 2nd floor above ground so I kind of have to use it since heat rises but it's still never fun getting that bill for 50 or 60 dollars. :/
