I found your videos in January and have now watched them all.. I love what you and your family are doing. Thanks for sharing. Keep em Coming! More people need to see how you guys keep bees in Cali!
Everything is going 100MPH here and full swing with queen production and increase for the year. Thanks for checking in Matthew, we hope to get back on track with videos soon. Kelly and I have been so swamped with the business onto of the kiddos its wild out here lol..., how are the bees?
Bulk bees is one thing that being in Cali would be nice for... *ring ring* Yes, I'd like to order 50lbs of bees in a giant screened box. Sure, come by on Friday and pick them up from Almond yard 105. *grins*
Looks like your definitely going to bee busy! :) Weather looks good as well! We just went back down to -21deg C and got 6” of snow yesterday! Spring will come..... Soon I hope, Love the videos!
James, we have had a few challenges with the weather and making it a muddy mess for us to pull our bees out of the almond orchards. We hope to bee moving next week and move hives into mating yards. When does the weather shift for you up there?
@@TheCaliforniaBeekeeper the weather really starts to change in April, March for us can be anywhere from -35dec C to +15deg C. For example Monday it was -22deg C and today it is going to +8deg C. As i try to sell a couple NUC’s each year i built a few heaters last year and have found this year this has improved my hives incredibly!! In fact this year my two hives i used two double deep supers last fall so they had lots of room, however when i inspected they last week they have completely filled both boxes! They are bursting at the seams! So i have had to add a medium box already to allow them room to expand. I had two splits given to me late last year (Late October) there was only about two frames of bees so i did not expect them to make it through the winter, however they have filled a super over the winter!!! The heaters are working incredible.
Sounds like you are going to have your hands full. That's great James, happy to hear that your heaters are working great. Also, I'm hoping to get that grafting stand setup for Kelly today and put it to use! We are definitely going to put some milage on that baby! We will keep you posted
That's one of the best ideas I've heard. Thanks man! We use them for our cell builders and use them the following year as smoker fuel, they have a little wax build up and smoke up perfect. I will be doing what you suggested man! Thank you🤜🤛
I love pine needles! We just dont have any lines in our area 😔. I also use eucalyptus leaves when around those trees. My new favorite is roasted coffee skins👌
Christian! Hey thanks for dropping us a comment, yes we have been off the channel for a little but will be coming back. We have been working around the clock with the business. We appreciate you and thank you!
Hey Jose it's coming it's coming I'm not talking about spring I'm talking about gray in your beard in a few years you'll look like me.🤣🤣🤣. Here is some old school advice in years to come. you will learn to appreciate yellow jackets. Bear we hit a yellow jacket Nest before they will your bees. Skunks possums will do the same. Just imagine they were feeding off Yellow Jackets long before the European honey bees came here so it's natural food for them. They hit your bees if they nothing else is nearby. Good luck 👍
Man! I'm going for the George Clooney look🤔😂 I'll try and embrace the gray🤷🏻♂️. The yellow jackets are as bad as some stinking skunks! They are persistent stinkers! Do you put out yellow jackets traps? Or is that a waste of time?
When you order that many does glory bee help you out on shipping? I was going to order a few mini nucs to try out but they don’t qualify for free shipping. With shipping it’s cheaper to order the higher priced ones that ship for free from Mann lake.
@@TheCaliforniaBeekeeper Hi I would like your opinion on the fertilization boxes! In your opinion, for a company that wants to produce about 1000 queens per year, it is better to use mini boxes (apidea) or larger nucleo? Thank you very much and sorry my English, I write from Italy
If 1000 is all you are looking to produce a larger nuc style box would be best. Is it just you in your operation? That would also play a factor. Running minis is very time sensitive but with a good team you can do it 👍💪 Thank you for joing us from Italy. Hello from Northern California 🤙

Hey, how’s it going? Well I hope. I just found mated queens in my mini’s. They just started laying, however there’s hardly much comb, so she already has everything laid up....how long before I should take her out? Will they want to leave and find a bigger home, or do I have some time? Thanks.
Give a little thinned out syrup and leave her in there up to 21 days from her hatch out date. 16-17 is ideal. Good stuff on the mated queens in those minis man!🙌
We would, just hard to know who their source is over seas. We have heard bad stories on equipment never arriving from some of our colleagues here in California. We'll keep looking into it, these units aren't cheap. Thanks my man!🤜🤛
Which ones? Kelly will take a look at that. I'm not the computer wiz so you lost me at "links...." 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️😆 Haha thanks for letting us know my man!🤜🤛

Lol...you need to put up signs on your nuc yard that says no bears allowed. We got hit one year and that's when I installed electric fences. You know what else works? Buy a bear tag. Once you buy a bear tag you will never see a bear. True story.
I had a few grafted queens hatch recently and had 4 mini nucs sitting so I figured I'd give them a try, well the are getting hit hard by hornets so I have the figure out how to keep out the hornets but allow a virgin queen to get out and fly. I day after setting them up 1 was already being robbed with all the bees either gone or dead :(
Thats a tough situation man! Have you tried some wasp hornet traps? Might have some luck, we don't really have those issues here. Is this the first you have had these types of issues with Hornets?
@@TheCaliforniaBeekeeper I'm not sure maybe if I place some nectar or honey away from the hives it will draw them away. I have to look into getting or making some traps. I just don't want to kill any honey bees - I may not have added enough bees to the minis either, I think I only put a half cup ( i have to check the cup i used for sure ) in then added some when they got low.
@@TheCaliforniaBeekeeper This time of year its hard for the mini nucs to defend themselves. I went with a few 3 framers instead ( deep nucs w/ a frame feeder ) and will see what happens with them I hope they don't get too weak as well
@@TheCaliforniaBeekeeper oh no I was talking about the damaged nuc lol. As for smoker fuel I got to tractor supply or rural king and get the pine bedding. The blocks of it last forever. Not going to bear Country sounds way easier than buying, installing and maintaining an electric fence anyway. Glad you got that option
No doubt! I think that's the best lesson I have ever learned about who's turf we are on🤦🏻♂️🐻
génial j ai hâte de voir tout c est nuclei en marche , courage a Mme pour les cadres ,oubli pas d acheter de la peinture en plus grosse quantitee.

Where did you order those little nucs from ..
So if my math isn't too far off, we are looking at 22k worth of nuc boxes right there.
👌
Dude, where'd you go?
Hi Tadd, we are working on a video this week! Been slammed with breeding season! Thanks for touching in
I'd order straight from the source next time... unless they cut you a better deal per unit.

Think my quote is roughly 7.5 to 8.5 per unit shipped to my door with duties paid. I agree that the overseas ordering/shipping can be scary.
