I am in love with English eye whip making. After my very first one, I totally believe in that method. It allows for a much smoother transition because you are adding strands at the point where they end, which is exactly where they need to taper, so every single strand terminates seamless, and flawlessly. On the flip side, planning is crucial so that you get the desired distance to the end point, and it isn't possible to adjust the taper if you need or want to, but if you have your measurements right, English Eye whips are simply a dream to make!
I've been adding a sort of english eye to all of my whips with a conventional handle-to-fall plaiting method. Rather than adding a fall hitch when I get to the end, I simply transition from a 4 plait to a 4 strand flat braid, and once I have about an inch of flat braid, I fold it back over to the plaiting and use a threading needle to weave the loose strands back into their corresponding strands and follow the strand under two overlapping strands. Once all four strands are in place, I pull each strand tight and the eye collapses into a very small and compact end. From there I just trim and melt the excess strands into the plaiting and I'm done. It's not quite as elegant as traditional english eye whipmaking, but I really wanted a less bulky way to end my thong and have the ability to replace the fall without deconstructing a fall hitch every time. Works great to that effect and there's far less mass and bulk between the thong and fall. The eye has held up on the end of a 13ft three belly bullwhip that can chew through a kevlar cracker in half an hour of goofing off, so I'm confident that it's every bit as durable as a fall hitch, at least.
I really wanted to implement this on my smaller whips constructed with whipmaker's cord, but all of my cord is coreless. I figured out that I could simply take another strand and run it through the strand meant for the fall to take the place of the core. I trimmed the inner strand to end up where I needed it in the fall, and then once it was in the clamp I trimmed the inner strand in the same way. Ended up with a fall that has four distinct and different sections of taper, which is exactly what I was going for, and it affords the same benefits you'd expect. It wasn't any more difficult to work with than a cored strand (it might actually be easier, honestly), so if you've got a lot of coreless laying around, you can still replicate this tapered and twisted fall by threading a second strand into your cord. Couple this with a tapered cracker and you'll be surprised at how easy it is to get your whips to crack!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge in a slow teachable way! You are the only one I've found that slowly and effectively taught me to tie the herringbone knot! I use rawhide and tie it on different items I make. You are so patient and such a great teacher, thank you for your help!!!
Two Eliasons, and two of all other whipmakers would make for an even more entertaining whip convention haha. And an awesome Dr. Who episode!😄. I hope you're successful in piecing together the Whip Con footage🤞🏽. Great seeing another nice vid👌🏽.
Really enjoyed this episode. Hope to one day meet you and other whip makers and have an opportunity to share ideas on whip making techniques. Thanks for sharing.
Hey nick I was wondering what formula you use to determine what length you need for each strand of a braided layer when you have... 1. The number of braided layers 2. Number of strands per braided layers 3. How long the whip is going to be And also I need help determining how many braided layers I need per whip design when I know the length. And also how many strands I need for a given belly determined by the amount of strands from the overlay. Thank you and i love your videos im learning so much.
@NicksWhipShop Love your videos. Very informative and easy to follow. I'd like to get your thoughts on using a hairdryer to tighten up a whip. Doable or...?
I was thinking as I was watching lots of your videos why you do not use the inside strands / guts of the paracord for other things like this or for Wrapping your Transitions and such :) Also why not dip your whip in Wax after Each Belly so it soaks in all of the way easier :)
Hi nick my name is Joshua I am wondering if it is possible to repair a old bull wip that has sentimental value to me and who I could contact in order to have it repaired if it is possible
The taper twist fall is in 4 sections Thong 4. Twisted 2 paracord strand with guts still in them 3. Paracord strand with guts put inside Paracord sheath 2. Paracord sheath only inside Paracord sheath 1. 1 piece of Paracord sheath Each of those sections sould be in inches as long as the whip is so if the whip is 5 foot long the fall should have 4, 5 inch sections. I hope that makes sence
Nick, I really appreciate that you keep pumping the high quality content out. Great work, keep it up.
A crossover of two heroes of the whipverse 😂
Ayyyy this is great!!! Well done you two!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Wow!! Many thanks for a useful lesson and an excursion to the workshop of a wonderful master.
Really enjoyed this technique, Nick:-)
A fantastic video as always Nick! Isaac's craftsmanship is amazing! English eyes are really difficult, I've yet to learn how to make one.
Maybe next time Nick is out at my shop we can tackle that build

Damn! This video is literally 36 hours late for me. 😂 I was looking for this very video...oh well, guess I'll make another whip.
So great getting to hang out with you and make a video together!
Agreed Isaac! It was a great time. I'd love to come out and visit soon.
@@NicksWhipShop you are always welcome man!

@Nick'sWhipShop
I recently developed a method for 'injecting' strands where needed that's virtually invisible. No excess bumps or anything like that.
I was thinking as I was watching lots of your videos why you do not use the inside strands / guts of the paracord for other things like this or for Wrapping your Transitions and such :) Also why not dip your whip in Wax after Each Belly so it soaks in all of the way easier :)

Hey, I have that exact tape measure! 😂😂
Now I need to go watch the micro whip video.
i just watched an instructional video about how to insert a ball chain into the fall, what are your thoughts on that?
Thanks again Nick!
On another note, any chance there's an update on your snake whip build method in the works? Nudge, nudge, wink, wink.... Thanks
Hey there, just a random question, how do u know ur fall is the right length?I'm not sure if u have covered this?

Where does he buy his paracord?

I don’t understand how Isaac can work amid all that shop “neatness!” Where is the total clutter I can’t even begin without?
I was the middle of packing up my shop for a move. Plus alot of my stuff was packed for the whip con.
@@eliasonwhipcowhere did you get you "lucky charm" lighter, and is it related to Indiana Jones?
@@zbstudios8927 I got it off Amazon years ago same as the jet lighter insert that I use in it. And yes it is definitely because of Indiana Jones
آمل أن يتم صنع فيديو يتم فيه صنع سوط مع حشوة فولاذية بالمنتصف وتجربته
When Issac refers to foot to inches for the length of the fall what exactly is he talking about?
The taper twist fall is in 4 sections
Thong
4. Twisted 2 paracord strand with guts still in them
3. Paracord strand with guts put inside Paracord sheath
2. Paracord sheath only inside Paracord sheath
1. 1 piece of Paracord sheath
Each of those sections sould be in inches as long as the whip is so if the whip is 5 foot long the fall should have 4, 5 inch sections. I hope that makes sence
fala mano gostei muito mais do not inglês😊
Great end product. Pretty poor confusing explanation tho...
