2:47 Totally agree on letting the body reset. I know when I've fallen, I prefer to just lie on the ground and gather my wits about me. My wife used to be embarrassed, but I explained that I wasn't going to do what everybody thought I needed. Only I know what I need after a fall.

Absolutely! Something unexpected just happened and taking a minute or two to reconfigure where you are, and realize you're ok is important.

      ive fallen
twice since being diagnosed with MS. 100% need 30-60s to layback and laugh about it to reset.

I practice this system regularly. Proved very useful when I fell and broke my wrist and I was able to get myself into the s position so my husband could get me up more easily.
Would you consider showing us how to fall more safely ?

You're welcome! The best way to tell would be to practice when there is someone near who could assist if need be🧡

Do you have an alternative without the knees? I have excruciating pain in my knees and can bear zero weight on them.

Hi Dr Gretchen, I have bought your book and am loving it. Watching this video, I would be interested in finding out how to build the strength in leg/ thigh to get up from the lunge? I can do so if I use my hands but find it impossible to do without. I’m confused if weakness is coming from core or thighs 🧐 Squats prove difficult due to this I can go down but again struggle to come up. Which exercise would be best to practice for this issue? xxx

I'm a big advocate for practicing the thing that's hard. So, if squats are challenging, then practice squats! They dont have to have a large range of motion to begin, and you can do them in front of a chair in case you cannot get back up. Hi Dr. I have severe pain in my knees from my ms so this wouldn't help me get up, is there anything else that could be helpful? Thank you for your very helpful exercise 😊

Yes, there's many other techniques and I demonstrate these inside my online MS wellness program, The MSing Link. And I also have photos of these in my book, The MSing Link! They are very challenging to try and type out ☺️

This happened in middle of restaurant. Not really possible to sit there and deep belly breathing.

As an pro faller, I resist the instant aid of others, if I’m in public. Falls stun. Collecting myself is essential.
Asking for space is harder than getting up for me. It feels rude, but really isn’t. Reminds me of people shoving water at a choking/coughing person. Just no.
