Sichuan Expressway Odyssey: A 4K Driving Adventure of Western China’s Hidden Gems

Drive on the expressways deep in the vast mountains of Sichuan - the Wenchuan Ma'erkang Expressway and the Dujiangyan Wenchuan Expressway.
The Wenchuan-Maerkang Expressway is a "dragon" winding through the snowy plateau. It starts from Fengpingba, south of Wenchuan County, connects to Yingwen Expressway, passes through Wenchuan, Li County, Gu'ergou, Miyaluo, Suomo, Zhuokeji, and ends in the east of Maerkang City. The total length is 170.267 kilometers. The entire line is built to the standard of a two-way four-lane expressway, with a design speed of 80 kilometers per hour and a roadbed width of 24.5 meters. Construction started in May 2015 and the entire line was opened to traffic on December 31, 2020.
Dujiangyan-Wenchuan Expressway, referred to as Duwen Expressway, is 82 kilometers long, starting from Dujiangyan City under the jurisdiction of Chengdu City and ending at Wenchuan County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture. It is an important part of the national expressway G42₁₇Chengdu-Chamdo Expressway, and is also a high-speed passage for Sichuan Province to the northwest (to Gansu, Qinghai, and Tibet). The "5.12" Wenchuan earthquake in 2008 caused serious damage to many parts of the expressway, and it was officially reopened to traffic on May 12, 2009.
