What I really appreciated about "Parenthood" was the balance between crying and laughter. I found "This is Us" to be extremely compelling, yet overly bleak.
I know this is an old comment but YES!! I agree with this! My husband and I call This Is Us “trauma porn” because it is just SO difficult to get through and I swear nothing good happens on that show haha! But I absolutely loved it anyway, it definitely gets me in my feels.
I watched Parenthood afterwards (just finished it today) and I found it so much more balanced and definitely made me laugh more! I’m realizing I just really have a thing for family dramas lol
@babybreath09 That's a good description of "This is Us". Both shows are superbly cast and acted. I just prefer "Parenthood" and return to it again and again. Thanks for your comments.
Ohmygash I say this allll the time. “This is Us” had potential and I love these types of shows, but it was too much. Too dramatic and too dragged out. So anytime I recommend “Parenthood” I rave and explain it as the perfect balance between Full House and This is Us

As soon saw Lauren plays Sarah I was sold and the story lines sucked me in almost immediately with Max having aspergers, Kristina’ s cancer, Anber’s car accident, Julia and Joel’s adopting process, etc...
But I get frustrated often when too much of the dialogue can overlap and even the captions can’t keep up with what everyone is saying 🙃

Oh how I lived this Show! I always laughed & always cried. I have to admit something. I was so afraid to watch the Very Last Show where Zeek is in hospital, & I JUST KNEW if he passed I couldn't Handle That!!! I NEVER watched. I had it Dvr'd but months later my Dish Network Went OUT! I Lost all my favorite Movies & Last Episode of Parenthood. I actually cried because I'd never ever missed one Episode!!! I'm hoping to find it to watch on my phone even.
