Japanese Crystal Ball Performer (Contact Juggling)

- This guy was hanging out in Yoyogi park in Harajuku, Tokyo, on a Sunday afternoon. He has clearly practiced a lot! I loved the music he played during his performance. My friends and I were completely mesmerized. He has a very expressive face too, with a charming smile... it really sells the show in the end. Made me feel like a little kid.
UPDATE: This video has been up for a while now and I have some information that some of my viewers will appreciate. First, the juggler's name is Okotanpe - and yes he's amazing - one of my favorite memories of Japan! Second, the song that he uses in his final act is called ソレイユ (soreiyu, spelled using katakana, meaning sun, is the Japanese pronunciation of the French word "soleil", also meaning sun). It is sung by Yoshie Nakano 中納良恵. Here's a link to the video:
• 中納良恵『ソレイユ』
The beginning of the song is by UA (ううあ) and it comes from an old Japanese folk song:

Here are the traditional lyrics:

I don't know exactly what size ball Okotanpe uses in this video (other users have suggested that it is 95mm - 100mm), but you're welcome to ask him. Here's his youtube page:

Also, here's his official webpage:

My fav part is to see that he's happy and smiling when he does it.
S i m p
Imagine if someone started crying next to him.. he could catch every teardrop and gently let it down to the ground
djfunkychicken Could he? Nice
+djfunkychicken hahahaha good one, that made my day
This video is just beautiful all around. Because, while Okutampe has his own channel, this video wasn't made to promote him or his channel. This is him creating visual art in the park for all to enjoy. Most juggling like this is thought up on the spot and the music only escalates it. His showmanship, the crowd participants, and most of all the video quality it's just phenomenal. This person's camera truly recorded a beautiful moment many would have missed out on.
Wow, well said.
👍
i will always love this, it has relaxed me for years
Same here.
It has been already 6 years, since I first saw this video. This guy can still create a smile on my face and calm my soul :)
#metoo
Idem
Quite relaxing. Ironically, it takes thousands of hours practice and hundreds of thousands of drops to be that masterful.
12 years later.. I still come back to this video from time to time… Asmr before the hype
2020 and I'm still watching this video to relax. It spreads happiness.
Feel old yet?
@@brayanruiz2252 yeah,now its 2022
I remember this video from such a long time ago. Nostalgia
Its really amazing! Thanks for upload it on TH-cam!
9 years later
Lol
TH-cam want us to see this comment
What song is this?
Sup im late saw this video in 2009 great times now its just 2022
After watching this I bought some balls to learn, this shiznit is hard, he makes it look so easy and fluid.
hows it going?
Little circles on your palm and relaxing your hands is the key to fluidity
It is one of the most challenging and advanced forms of juggling to master... Much more creative than toss juggling and more interesting towatch and perform in my opinion.. I am partial to contact juggling as my favorite although I also toss juggle and push juggle with 3 balls.. I also really love spinning plates..it's a blasty blast.. 🤡
Aside from being very talented, he seems like a very warm, lovely person! :). I hope he gets plenty of recognition for his talents.
This is the guy I aspire to. I've only just started my contact juggling journey but I watch this video to be inspired and amazed.
Hey! Did you end up continuing contact juggling?
I watch this video when I'm feeling down or unmotivated. I try to watch other contact juggling videos but I keep coming back to this one. I love how simple and pure it is, just a single shot that focuses on the performer. Every other video I see isn't about the performer but the video guy's new dslr and his super neat editing style >
Same. His showmanship always inspires me
I love how he handled the woman who got in the middle of his scene. She was an idiot, but he wasn't ruffled. He treated her well, gave her a little moment, and got her out of there without being harsh.
You think maybe he just didn't care? Some people just genuinely don't get annoyed that easily.
I love how happy he looks. He obviously loves what he does and it shows through his smile and amazing skills.
Without doubt, he is one of the most skilled contact jugglers in the world and makes it effortless with his humour to boot. Such a pleasure to revisit this incredible performance, time after time. It is pure magic.
I love Contact juggling. I especially liked how this guy was smiling in the performance and involving his audience--clever, and very fun.
This is magical. I can't even imagine how many hours he's put into honing that skill. Very impressive.
i love how graceful he is whn the lady just walks into his act xD hes like : : D whateva! take eet!
I remember watching this video over 8 years ago and there have been many contact juggling videos made since then, but this one is my favourite still
He made all that rolling on his arm look effortless, that was amazing!
he looks so in his element when he´s juggling, wow, I´d love to feel like that, also he was amazing
I love his play with the crowd. great performance!
The song, the choreography, the musicality, his energy. This is truly the best contact juggling performance ever recorded to this day over a decade later
Came back to this video after almost ten years. It brings back lots of memories. I used to watch it to keep me focus when I did my assignment when I was studying a degree at university.
that's unfair, I got arrested when I was playing with my balls in public
Yours must of not been made from crystal
I legit laughed at this
Why
Ohhhh I get it now
Sukhi Rai 😂😂😂😂😂😂
When that woman gets in his way, he gives her the ball as if to say: "Leave the tricks to me bitch and get out of my way" but in a polite and subtle way
I've been contact juggling for three years and this guy still never ceases to amaze me! Even though I can dissect every one of these tricks ad perform most of them, I'm still mesmerized every time I watch his videos.
when I am sad I watch him...and I feel happy...hes so calming!
This song sounds like it would be the theme to a Japanese version of Cheers... which is a good thing.
I never thought it was possible for a guy to be able to contact juggle balls better than my ex wife.. until I saw this video that is.
Hahahha
Talavera jr what was the point of saying that? you dick
7 years later, and I'm still mesmerized by this...
Just want to thank you for doing what you do on such a magical level and sharing it with the world. You inspire me and many others I'm sure. Thank you!
The white who stood in the way of his perfomance was so rude and evil. She was intentionally trying to disrupt his performance and i cannot stand her. Im so sorry on behalf of america that we have rude whites who visit other countries and disrespect others! They dont deserve to see such beautiful cultures, they should stay in europe and leave others alone! Beautiful video, he is such a kind and wonderful performer. Thank you for capturing him. I hope this video stays up forever!
The way he performs along with the music almost makes it seem magical. Loving it!
Still to this day I haven't seen anyone as fluid as him 😍
The best clip i've watched so far
How about pictures after the show, Lumpy Tourist Lady.
Wow! This is so cool!
I am loving this. Not sure how I stumbled on this video but I am going to learn this art form. Awesome.
I showed this to my mum and blew her mind. It still blows my mind. Always will. So FNG amazing
how beautiful
could easily be aang the last airbender playing with an air ball
nice of you to update the information. you da man
This is so gorgeous! I hope this man is still doing this :)!
Yoshie Nakano - Soleil
That lady was weird though....just moving into the middle of his performance..... obviously wanted a picture or something.....
I think she is a Karen before Karens even existed
It was so cute how he included the audience in his performance. Like the guy he asked for 'help'. Or the lady who accidentally walked on stage. Real adorable.
That was amazing, and this guy has a very awesome attitude that seems to emanate from him and I feel contributes a lot to his performance!
This song is hard to get out of your head even though its Japanese.
What's the name of the song? Sounded kinda nice

At first I was like "meh".

Smooth smooth smoooooooth! What a display of talent, control and showmanship!
so good. you know the crystal ball is reflecting the sky,the tree kinds of the beautiful things.it seems to every thing hold on this hand.
Wow, he is really talented. Good job on the updates to the video.
Now, have you given him any of the ad revenue that you've collected from this video?

Old link doesn't work. Link to the song. Thank me later th-cam.com/video/j2nwWDorydQ/w-d-xo.html
What's the song name?
Still one of the most entertained videos on the internet.
Amazing video ,this guy is the best I've seen
what's the song??
it's a very skillful guy, the old white woman don't respect his art and only want to appear in the camera of her friend.
Very selfishness attitude that you can see more and more in a society of consumers.
...and i posted it on FB almost a year ago and i did it again :-) i just love this video som uch.it is really the hhole package together.the guy,the song and his skill.
For some reason, this puts a big smile on my face.
Waitaminnit... that's not David Bowie....
Actually it was Michael Mochen's hands that did this in the movie Labyrinth, he is the originator of this art form.
I can do that with blood.
i lol'd
I laughed way too hard at this.
Yoyogi park is definitely an interesting place! You can spot so many talented performers like this guy there. Thank you for posting the music info! I love them too :)
I love that some people have the patience and passion to do things like this and bring a little bit of magic into others lives.
What a great magical performance! I have hope that I want to come Inokashira-park him as a special performer.
This is the most fun and wholesome i ever found
wonderful. made me smile
Been awhile since I saw this vid....I'd forgotten how smooooooth this guy is. Fantastic control!
I will always remember this Video it is so cool
this is amazing!
I just saw him yesterday live. Amazing, and he did quite a bit of other stuff with rings and such, which was completely mesmerizing and unbelievable. Music was live by Koji Matsumoto and Reo Matsumoto.
The mixture was nothing short of pure magic.
I need a moment ... That was way too amazing !
Cool. Thanks for uploading this video.
Always makes me smile
It astounds me that anyone could dislike this video. This is just a beautiful amount of skill and dexterity
Thats was so beautiful , These guy have a great talent and much charisma.
People like this make the world a better place :)
Never seen such an elaborate description on a youtube video before this one. Great job mr. poster! :)
This guy and Kelvin Kalvus got me into contact juggling a few years ago. Give it a go, great fun and I only gave myself one black eye in the process.
