All the coins that was shown were just incredible to see didn’t know many coins where around these days good to know that history is still playing it’s part in 2022
English hammered coinage is in my eyes, the most fascinating in the world. And it's good to know that there are affordable examples available. I loved all the coins but my favourite had to be the Edward I farthing. So small. But Edward I coins are some of the most numerous medieval coins around today
I would like to see a video about the evolution of the shilling or 6d or even the penny … with wider geographic and historic examples in terms for weight or design or other characteristics and physical parameters
I think it would be quite the feat to have a coin from as many successive reigns as possible. Obviously it's not possible for all reigns (disputed or otherwise), but it would make a great physical connection to an otherwise dry list of dates. Very nice to see some accessible bits of history!
Beautiful coins I have actually found A couple of Edward 1 coins myself What is the silver content of them Or we're they mixed a little as It happened at times of war
There have actually been 10 Queens Regnant since the Norman conquest (9 if you don’t count Jane Grey), because, if we are including pre-union of the crowns Queens of England, then we should also include the two pre-union Queens of Scotland; Margaret (13th century) and Mary (16th century). If we’re being really pedantic then there are also a couple of Roman era Queens (Boadicea being one of them) and a handful from the Dark Ages too, though all these were closer to regional leaders than monarchs of the whole country.
Yes, I fell down the rabbit hole a bit with this one but the majority of sources I used didn't count but did mention Margaret as she didn't get to Scotland to claim her throne 😁👍
all 7 queens were english and ruled mathilda is disputed , I cannot think of a margaret that ruled of her own right , mary tudor scottish queen okay , boadicea was a consort queen she will become a warrior leader and become a warrior queen under the victoria era ( funny to say boadicea mean victoria in our modern language) and the dark ages were dark
first queen of England was queen Matilda it was disputed whether she or king stephan should rule between 1114 and 1125 next queen was lady Jane grey who was only queen for 9 days before taken off of the throne and replaced by queen Mary 1 next queen was queen Elizabeth the first after that queen Mary 2 who co ruled with William of orange from France after that was queen Anne, Mary 2s sister and the last stuart monarch the penultimate queen is queen Victoria before finishing off with our present queen queen Elizabeth 2
Hiya. Think you've got your history a bit skewed there, Christopher. 1625 was when Charles 1st became King. Elizabeth died in 1603, James then became King of England and Scotland and when he died in 1625 Charles became King. Stay safe. All the best to you. P.S.: I was referring to your voice over to the first coin, you got it right later on with the James coin.
A penny for your thoughts? I'd choose the Edward I silver penny. In olden days you'd be doing well to earn a Groat a day but I wouldn't give you tuppence for a half groat.
