Thanks so much for taking the time and effort to share this with us. I particularly liked your method of the inside 90 degree turn in the corner. I agree, it looks better with the small pieces re-installed after the cut. I viewed another video where they merely butted the up together. Not good looking at all.

Judi Christopher no problem at all. Been installing tile for years but I have to say it’s not hard and I’ve had several homeowners that love to watch and learn a few things. It’s a fun career but also a fun hobby if you’re a homeowner
@@Ricky-xv4yc I agree... I have a question for you... If I put up a backsplash in a RV... can I use a flexible grout so it does not crack? Is there such a thing LOL
Very Good Job Sal! You gave me confidence as a woman to do this on my own!! Great step by step instructions!! I have one question though. When doing the corners, do you leave a space between the ending tiles and the new tiles being placed on the adjacent wall? Or do you place them as close together as possible? Do you I use spacers at that point like you video showed? Thanks!!
Love this video Sal...I didn't see an answer to several people asking about leaving a gap between the tile and counter top (apologies if I missed it) but I don't think you actually need a gap in this case. You just need to seal the bottom edge of the tile with caulk for water proofing like you did in the video. The gap people are referring to is actually known as an "expansion gap" which I don't think applies for this sheet style tile. Correct me if I'm wrong however.
It looks so pretty when your done! I just attended a workshop and learned to install a back splash, but I have a few questions they didn't address. Would you mind answering then, and thank you in advance. :) 1) What did you use to patch the wall (I think you said @ 2:00, but I couldn't hear it)? 2 (3 questions in 1) What was the process of removing the outlet covers and taping them? Was it that simple or more complicated? When you screw the outlet covers back on, do they just fit? 3) Did you caulk the space between the tile and where it meets the counter top by the sink? if so, do you have a video on caulking? Again, thanks in advance for your answers.
Hi Sal, I'm about to do this in my shower today. The mosaic glass sheet tile and the 12x24 tile are the same thickness 1/4". Can I use the same 1/2" trowel to set the mosaic glass tile on wall so it can be the same evenness when done? I'm only doing one 12" vertical line right in the middle straight up on backwall of a 3x5 shower. And can I use the same MAPEI brand large format wall tile thinset? It's white thinset. Any advice will be much appreciated. Thanks
You will find that the 1/2" trowel will not work well with the mosaic tile. You should set the field first leave the pace for the mosaic tile to add it after. Glass tile requires a mortar that is suitable for glass. The thinset you use for the larger tile may not be appreciated.
Sal: Loved the video, it's not as easy as everyone thinks to do it right. I'm about to install glass tile with textured stone in it. What happens to the textured stone when I grout? Thanks again.
My guess it that you should probably seal the tile before you grout it, if the stone part of you tile has a lot of voids in it, they will be filled by the grout and will have an entirely different look when grouted.
That's so beautiful! Can you grout before you put the electrical faceplates back on? I'm about to do this exact same type of tile in my own kitchen. What color is the grout? I'm thinking white but it might be TOO white. Also, should I put spacers at the bottom between the counter & tile, or does it matter?
+tygrr94 You can grout before you put the face plates on, but if you can turn off the power to the outlets, do so. I sometimes put them back on so i don't get an electrical shock while grouting.
Outstanding video first of all! I have a problem where the top edge of my formica counter top and my window trim are a 1/2 inch off from one side to the other. 36 inch wide window and only a 2 inch gap on one side and 2 1/2 on the other. 2 peices of glass tile are 2 inches. What would be the best way to fudge it.
What type of thin-set did you use to get the uniform surface across the wall, I could not make out what you said please? And also what type of mastic or thin set are you using as an adhesive for the tile? I guess I am confused as it appears you are using one thin set for the smooth surface and another product for your adhesive. Thank you for the video as it was very informative and helpful.
and what you did to the wall before inserting the tile...is that a must? and what exactly did you do? just smooth the wall out? do you have to smooth the wall out and scrape the paint off before inserting the tiles?
+HM Russell The blue horse shoe spacers are 1/16" thick, and they help maintain the grout space between sheets and where ever i think they are needed, I scraped the wall and smoothed it out because it was in rough shape but not so bad that it needed to be replaced, in most cases this is not necessary.
Thanks Sal! We removed a backsplash of 4" tiles last week that removed a lot of paper and had to piece in a small patch of drywall to repair a hole. Removed all the old mastic and was advised to put a coating of Gardz on everything since we accidentally did the patch with regular joint compound and mesh tape. Should we be good to set glass tile mosaics at this point. Everything is flat.
Nice video and excellent job. I just installed the exact same back splash, but left the grout on too long. What would you recommend for removing the extra grout from the tile? It's difficult to remove
+Lee Radford You might want to try a mild acid, like white vinegar, but depending on what the tile is, it might damage the tile. There are grout residue removers check with a tile supplier.
Excellent video. The info regarding matching the tiles at the inside corners was something I hadn't thought about. Question: Each mat usually comes packaged on a white cardboard. It seems to me that for those glass tiles that are somewhat translucent (you can see through them to some degree) the color of the thinset could affect the final color. Correct?
Sone glass tiles are in fact transparent and require an additional step during installation to insure 100% coverage, and the color of the thinset will greatly affect the look of the final product.
