    Perhaps twist the spoon nearer the hub, the spoon handles will also act as a blade and catch the wind making it more efficient in lower wind speeds.

    “Daisy “ is a great idea. Perhaps some old Venetian aluminium blind blades would be adequate for a larger project. As they can be twisted, a coarse angle near the hub reducing down to 27 degrees pitch at the tip. To hold the pitch in place could be 3 rings (hub,middle and outer) with a slot for each blade, set at the fixed angle for the station point on each blade. I think I might just give it a try!

    Other than this: Great video! As always, cheers!
    Since you're doing a supplement, I happened to notice, the spoon next to or possibly 2 away from the junction line of the cone's continuation is a bit more angled than the rest of them.
    Ideas for "modding" the setup as a part of the next installment, or now that they're bent, de-cone the front and check your angles by flipping it over and rebending them to make sure their new contact point is all the same. I know a reheat of the material may cause adverse effects but I just wanted to offer.
    And I know, armchair Science journal member here, but I think creating the series continuity of, what if there's a problem, could benefit us novices.
    Update: I was completely wrong and the rewatch proved it, you're good.
    However, given the color scheme,

  • @cwt5654
    @cwt5654 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    calvingreene90... yes this could give a large improvement. Also, if the cone was a solid piece, holes could be drilled around the circumference allowing spoons to be inserted at varying pitch (would require spoon handles to be glued into a tube first - this needs to be a snug fit in the drillings to prevent unwanted rotation).

      I don't know - clearly gluing the magnets directly to the back means it is 1:1 - but that may well not be the best as this kind of turbine is well known for low speed but high torque

  • @jimblake7623
    @jimblake7623 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just looking at your spoons, they are oriented so they act like the blades of a pelton wheel, which may reduce efficiency, as the air being thrown out by a spoon will negatively affect the air and the spoon behind it. I wonder what would happen if you were to place the spoons the other way round, so they presented an airfoil face to the wind. You would then get laminar flow round the spoon, so probably some "lift" and the air leaving the blade wouldn't impinge upon the blade behind it....just my 2p worth...

    Hey Doc, I have a question: isn't one of the assumptions of the Betz's Law to work with non-compressible fluids?

    • @ThinkingandTinkering
      @ThinkingandTinkering  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Betz law is based on Newtonian fluids mate - which is a fluid in which the viscous stresses arising from its flow are at every point linearly correlated to the local strain rate - the rate of change of its deformation over time. Stresses are proportional to the rate of change of the fluid's velocity vector.

    Your latest binge of everyday unassuming items being converted into electric generation, be it is small or as large as it happens to be, just shows that at no point no time should anybody be totally bereft of Hope of charging the phone or running an LED for lights to see it a little bit at night, I'm thinking like in the aftermath of a hurricane little devil copper wire salvage out of a building and a magnet off of speaker and some spoons and you can have power for your phone

  • @jaxonevax6135
    @jaxonevax6135 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is cute and all. But You go from generation to DC conversion to DC storage . Two a DC to AC converter. 2 AC power level. At that point it becomes useful. This takes a minimum of 12 volts. You have the knowledge to do all of this. Even make your own batteries. And instead you're building daisies that barely light LEDs. How about you build your own batteries your own converters your own generator and power a house bulb do something practical. Not a criticism. I love what you do.

    • @ThinkingandTinkering
      @ThinkingandTinkering  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't take it as a criticism mate - but there are several levels to an answer - yes I can do it but how do you learn to do it if you have never done it before? this is a youtube channel and a large part of that is videos that inform or entertain - if you don't do that videos don't get watched and the channel ceases to exist - you are just plain wrong about the amount of power needed to be useful - you are using a western view - in many countries 100w per day - yes watts per day - is the level of consumption and a minimum of 1.5 volts is needed. I don't see myself as being here to provide you with ready made solutions - I see myself as presenting ideas for you to develop not copy. Without being rude - perhaps you could put some work in instead of waiting to take something out?
