Way back I used to carry a Volkswagen gasoline heater and hook up to the aircraft battery. it ran on aviation gasoline but it was heavy. I like your idea better. How much propane do you use for a typical start at 0deg F?

Hi, sorry for taking so long to get back to you. I don't check in on my messages often. I'm really not sure. I can tell you that once you get the steel plate hot you can turn down the flame a bit and it still works fine. One tank could last me the whole winter with regular use. Put the heat duct in from under the cowl and leave one cowl plug in. I'm guessing of course but I think 20 to 25 minutes should be enough from 0 deg .
BUT REMEMBER, DON'T USE THIS HEATER AFTER YOU'VE TRIED TO START AND FAILED.
DUE TO FUEL DRIPPING FROM AN UPDRAFT OR SIDE DRAFT CARBONATOR YOU CAN SET YOUR PLANE ON FIRE.
As for a fuel injected engine...
I would still proceed with an abundance of caution.
      Best wishes
Let me know how it goes. 🙂

I doubt taking a propane tank into a house is considered safe. This looks to me like a great way to set a fire.

Hi David, maybe you're confused by what I said. You don't use it in the house It's for preheating an airplane you store the tank without the torch attached inside. Most people keep these in their pantries, basements or garages. They don't spontaneously combust. This particular torch you can lock the igniter in the off position and close the valve off so unless you are very much intentionally trying to turn it on it won't do it by itself.
