Fishing a Delaware Beach Before The Shut Down!

- Its EARLY spring time but it was going to be beautiful day. Temps were going to reach 85 degrees, a rarity for March. Brittney, Kodi, and I decided to make a beach trip to try to get on the stripers that are running. These small stripers always come into the surf early spring time in Delaware. The bigger migratory Stripers dump back into the ocean from the Delaware River and Chesapeake Bay by late April and early May. Of course there is always a chance of a keeper being in the mix. As we pull up I notice bird diving and dolphins blowing up fish, and within a few cast I'm in on my first fish. Throwing soft plastics in the surf is always a fun time! The very next day Governor Carney shut down all beach access because people flooded the boardwalks and shops were open for some reason causing big crowds. Closing boardwalks and shops make sense during this corona craziness but theres no reason for closing a drive on fishing beach in March and April. They are never crowded this time of year with plenty of room. This is my opinion obviously, hopefully we're allowed back on soon. It really sucks because April and May is the best time of year to fish the beaches in Delaware.... As always thanks for watching and I appreciate all the love!

That was an awesome trip. Glad to see the rocks are running now. Too bad about the beaches. Hopefully this craziness won't last too much longer.

Looks like you found some good action! Last week we were pulling a ton of schoolie bass out of the surf there. Waiting on the bigger fish.
Do you ever have luck just hooking up a sand flea and casting it past the surf?
Not really. They usually only catch bitch stuff in the bay during springtime. Black drum like them
I was Cherokee just north of you. Wondered if that was you with the pup. Caught six schoolies on fishbites. Gorgeous day. How many did you get that day.

Just picked up my new 4Runner. Wanted to get a beach permit in Aug, but was told that all 17,000 were sold by June. Just became a permanent resident here in Del. We have been coming down to the Delmarva area since the 80s....been fishing somewhere since I was 4...

Thanks man. I have a grand Cherokee, wayyy better than a Cherokee...I really love it and will prolly never buy anything else. My girls have tons of room in the back and my dog sits in between them. I have the V8 hemi and I still get like 18mph hwy, city is like 14mpg. Plus the thing is a tank on the beach, really recommend it

You ever hit Slaughter Beach? I'll be staying there in a few weeks for the second year in a row, and hoping to catch something. We do good crabbing there. No charter boats for us, trying to stay away from crowds this year
