A long awaited cinematography breakdown. We attempt our version of the softer hollywood look, created with soft lights and practicals. This was a different style of video for us, but it was a new challenge in our approach.
Let us know what you think, and if you're enjoying this type of video.

Fantastic. Amazing presentation. Gifted teaching. I look forward to taking your master class. You make me believe I can learn this. Thank you 🎉
Thanks so much! We really appreciate the support, it allows us to make more projects and these TH-cam videos!
My friend I’ve a question. Is the montage commercial masterclass different from the masterclass you’re offering through your website? I presume it is but just double checking with ya. Again super grateful for your content.
Great video! I appreciate the in-depth breakdown, always enjoy seeing what others are doing.
Thanks so much Glen! Appreciate the support
Great content. I can never see a commercial now without thinking of how was it lit.
Haha same here, thanks for watching!
great stuff man, we need more videos on the internet more focused on creative intent like this instead of endless gear focused reviews
Thanks David! That means a lot we have a ton more videos coming out soon!
Yeah this is what really matters thanks tenfold
So happy to see you guys blowing up. Best content on TH-cam and happy you’re giving so much useful information to filmmakers.
Appreciate you and the support man! Means the world
As always huge thanks for the useful content, It's very interesting to see how creative you need to be on set and how planning and scouting is important! ❤

This is amazing 😍
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it
Your content is always super high quality but this breakdown is definitely a stand out. Some of your best cinematography also, killing it man!
That means a lot! Thanks so much, we are slowly getting better at them haha
Learned so much from this! I just bought a red Komodo and some Pavo tubes and I’m ready to create some really beautiful images!
That’s an awesome setup! You can make some amazing images with that.
Thank you for sharing these valuable lessons!❤
Thanks for the support!
These vides are so gold 🙏🏼 thanks man
appreciate you!
Very good content, very helpful!
I also loved the color, did you color it? The naturalistic look with this grain, incredible!
There was a colourist on this project. Appreciate the kind words
Love the approch, and the content. Best of youtube right now in this nice genre ;)
Thanks a lot.
Thanks so much Nathan! That means a lot.
I took your breakdown and applied in generating images and the change is ground breaking
That’s so amazing to hear! Are you signed up to our email list (through the free pdf)
Awesome content. I've been binging since I found your channel. Keen to see what's next.
Thanks J! Appreciate you, more to come
As someone who is wanting to create works of film of my own, your videos have been a huge help. I’m slowly teaching myself how to recreate the visuals I see in my head on the screen, and videos like this are invaluable. Thanks for doing what you do!! Your eye for cinema is beautiful
That’s amazing! Thanks for sharing and I’m glad we’re helping in some way!
Thank you for so much Content!
Appreciate you David! We’re trying haha
Hey man, love these breakdowns!!
Can you please share the ungraded footage (rec. 709) clip for the comparison for the white balance understanding!
Love your videos. I’ve learned a lot.
Would be great to see a breakdown in the rental process. I see lots of videos say “rent don’t buy” but nothing that breaks it down.
Upfront costs, insurance requirements, who to rent from, deposits needed, etc. it’s always vague. But I think it would be helpful to understand those details. For example, do you pay for the rental upfront or do they give you a net 15 or net 30?
Figure you put a lot of detail in your breakdowns, this might be a good topic. At least for the audience, maybe not so much the algo.
👊 thank you for the breakdown.
Thanks for the feedback! We’ve been meaning to dive into this. Will keep you posted. And appreciate the support.
@@TenfoldProduction That would be awesome. I know it varies from place to place. Looking forward to it.
Love the video man 🔥 always great quality content 😌. I just had a question about the edit on this video. Do you do your film burns yourself, all the video that I watch from you got this stunning film burn, that feel so reel and so realistic, I just love it.
Thanks you
Amazing bro. Great valuable content
Bro, you will always be famous in my books🥹🙏🏽
Appreciate you!! 🙏
yo! nice 👊 thanks for the info. great work!
Thanks Ear Bonez! Appreciate you, thanks for watching
I would love to hear also how long it took to get each shot. That gives a bit of a background of how much work was put in to every shot
We shot this over 2 days, 8 hours each. It was pretty dialled in terms of story, but we’ll do a deeper dive in the future.
more lighting, composition and colour videos!
Fire 🔥
Thanks Gabriel!
Beautiful work
Thanks Alex!
Thank you for these lighting breakdowns they're always educational to me.
Suggestion:
It would help me a lot if you'd have fish eye BTS footage. so we can see every light and flag in the actual position they are in.
Anyone else?
That’s a great idea! Will definitely implement something like that
I really enjoyed your breakdown. Very informative. I really digged the warm vibe you managed to produce in the girl's bedroom for the early morning scene.. May I ask to what temperature you set the practical light?
Looking forward to see more. 🤙🏻
Thanks Joe! They were at 3200K, white balance at around 4400
awesome!
Thanks Clemens!
So
Much
Value
Thanks Slam!!
its great!! please show more backstage with all the staff
Definitely will!
Thanks
🙏
Good Job!
Goat ❤
Thanks Mike!
Hey Tenfold, thank you for the breakdowns and your videos! You had me thinking when you mention going between choosing your white balance in camera. Do you guys use a color checker or white balance card ever on set? I recently bought the colorchecker passport but I haven't used it yet, now wondering if I even need it.
We’ve never used one or used a white balance card on set. For us, it’s just a matter of practicing and knowing what your end result will look like. We exclusively work off of a rec709 or lut on our images. That way we can make adjustments and know roughly what our end image will look like.
@@TenfoldProduction Thank you for the insight. Going to download the rec709 lut for my monitor then. Would you advise to bake it in the footage I camera, or just use the look as reference on monitor? I record off of my ninja v. Thank you for the help!
@@zackbazile2539 always just for viewing. We always record in log for better post.
@@TenfoldProduction Copy and thank you!
Did you use any filtration? Also, it is amazing how much schedule can dictate how minimal you can plan for a lighting package.
Hey! I believe we had black satin and Hollywood black magic / pro mist on this. And absolutely, the amount of shots dictated a lot of what we can realistically shoot in a day. All comes down to budget haha
@@TenfoldProduction it looks fantastic. Tremendous job!
"Excellent videos! Quick question… what apps do you use on iPad to write and draw on videos or photos like at minute 6? Thanks in advance, best regards."
In the first shot breakdown you didn't mention what the color temperature of the bulb in the lamp was. I'm curious if you're matching the 4400k WB or if you pushed that lamp even warmer?
Pushed warmer closer to 3200k!
@@TenfoldProduction Solid 👍
Were you using any filters during the morning begging shots?
If I remember correctly, it was a combination of black satin + hollywood black magic.
What lighting tube did you use?
Nanlite Pavo tubes
❤

In the last scene where the Girl and Dad were sitting outside, was the Pavotube motivated by a Streetlight or ?
The sunsetting!
If I could double like… I would, I would do that.
Appreciate that!! Thanks for the support
what contrast ratio is this ?
Amazing man
Where can I see the full video?
i see it, i hear it, i understand it but when i film everything looks like boring crap... is it me, is it the light, the camera, the grading ... idk i am super stuck :D
It’s a mixture of everything! Usually it all starts with lighting first, we are doing a masterclass that you can find in our description. I think it’ll be helpful in understanding where to start and how to create images consistently.
@@TenfoldProduction i just bought it ^^ i hope it helps ^^
@@bommelsstuff1109 appreciate the support! What problems are you having right now? Would love to hear what issues you’re having around lighting!
@@TenfoldProduction I can not pin it down that is why i am stuck. what comes out of my footage just seems to look either to flat and boring or too contrasty and too hard shadows. Colorwise i do not have the tonal separation i would like to have. everything looks too sharp and digital but i would love to have a more film like look. idk can i send you link to my work somehow maybe you know what i mean then.
I enjoyed this breakdown.
