"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing". -Edmund Burke "Evil will always triumph because good is dumb". -Dark Helmet Gotta love the contrast!!!
I've always appreciated the subtle visual gag with the comb the desert scene... Specifically the part where Dark Helmet uses his megaphone to talk to a guy a couple of feet away from him but doesn't use it to talk to his troops who are much farther away.
God this movie is still hilarious. I mean every time I watch a comedy from like the 80s or something, it's never funny, the jokes are just stupid, but this movie is still hilarious all these years later!
what are you talking about, man? have u seen Airplane! Beverly Hills Cop (even though its mostly drama), Spinal Tap, Caddyshack, NL's Vacation(Chevy Chase), Top Secret!, Naked Gun, Fish Called Wanda?...
I don't know why, but since the first time I heard it. The way he says Fuck, makes me feel like no one could ever make Fuck sound as terrible as he had.
Steven Levine That's Mel Brooks for you always making fun at stereotypes mainly racism, (Spaceballs, To be or not to be, History of the world part 1 and (Blazing saddles partly written by Richard Pryor) plus many other films he made, complete comedy genius
I like the part where they're in the desert and he uses the megaphone to talk to Sanders, when Sanders is right next to him, and then puts it down and shouts at the people out combing.
"Fuck, even in the future nothing works" So, true today. Must install update, no service in area, cartridge misaligned. Fuck! Even in the future nothing works!
+Jesse Finnerty ... "The sheriff's a ..." DING goes the bell.. too funny and Cleavon Little was great in that movie, Richard Pryor was actually supposed to get the role.
I think an underrated gag is Dark Helmet using his megaphone to speak to Colonel Sandurz, who is directly beside him, and then putting it down and shouting with his hand near his mouth to the desert combers
as a star wars fan i didn't like it as a kid (the french version i must mention), i couldn't really appreciate it for the genius parody that it is. now it just doesn't get old ^^
This movie is 25 Years old and I'm still laughing the shit out of me....The Humor still works...after 25 Years....Well done, Mel and may the Schwarzt be with you!
It's kinda funny how everyone's like "You missed this" and "You left out that", when the first thing in the description says "imo" or "in my opinion". Of course he didn't include all those other things. They didn't make it into his personal top 10 funniest scenes. Sure, the title says "10 Best Gags", but that's what the description is for: to describe. Unfortunately few people actually look at it and just assume the title says it all. Which can make them look really stupid.
I always liked in the "comb the desert" scene, helmet talks in sanders' ear with the megaphone, but yells down to the troops. Everyone overlooks it due to the obvious (but funny) pick joke.
Fun fact: the doll scene was completely improvised by Rick Moranis.
and that was Dick Van Patten's real hair as well.
Henchman Twenty1 Totally agree
***** The actor who played Dark Helmet here and was also in Ghostbusters. Seen that film?
srbarkerchan Too bad he is no longer acting. Apparently he stopped it to take care of his kids.
Henchman Twenty1 damn you beat me too it
One of my fav bits is when the good guys have been 'captured'... "That's not them, you've captured their stunt doubles!"
2:15.. Perhaps the best breaking of the fourth wall joke ever made
+Nevan Slone That joke was so great, we're still working on fixing the fourth wall. It's costing us a fortune!
And then the Deadpool movie will come out, and everything will have been for naught.
+Nevan Slone I agree that and the rewind scene from Funny Games (1997), are the most ingenious 4th wall breaking ever made.
"Good is Dumb"
The better was when they hit cameraman during fight between Lonestar and Dark Helmet
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing". -Edmund Burke
"Evil will always triumph because good is dumb". -Dark Helmet
Gotta love the contrast!!!
Hahaha :) Awesome and oh so true comparison my friend :)
+RayJayRob What good are rules/laws with no one to enforce them?
+RayJayRob Contrast? One could argue that not doing anything to stop evil is kind of dumb...
Or for Good men to not know the difference, as is what's happening today.
Then it's up to the good women, obviously,
smh
I've always appreciated the subtle visual gag with the comb the desert scene...
Specifically the part where Dark Helmet uses his megaphone to talk to a guy a couple of feet away from him but doesn't use it to talk to his troops who are much farther away.
Yeah I noticed that
“We ain’t found shit!”
"We ain't found shit". That's Tim Russ, Tuvok on Star Trek Voyager. LOL!!!
Sunovabitch, so he is!
And principal Franklin in ICarly.
@@tamrinto holy shit I never knew that
@@dawsynlarson696 if you don't believe me, look it up.
"What's the matter Colonel Sander, chicken?"
I just got that, my fucking god.
I didn't get it until I read your comment.
Michael Bell lol! we all have those moments, brother.
Please explain :/
That was funny but I think I didnt understood it properly
Colonel Sanders is the founder of KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken).
My World In Disorder .... I didn't get this joke till just now and I have seen the part many times. FML
You left off ludicrous speed
sakollada1968 Yes, I did.
+BrotherReed "Oh, buckle this!"
+sakollada1968 Quite Ludicrous how they left it out.
+sakollada1968
And the 'breaking'. :)
+sakollada1968 And the alien! xD
"What's the combination?"
"12345!"
"12345?"
"Yes!"
"That's amazing I've got the same combination on my luggage!"
The mandela effect has changed the movie dialogue
Damn it, you know my password now. I hate changing my phone's password... Maybe it will be better if I set it 123456. You'll never figure it out!
"Druish princesses are often attracted to money and power"
Mel Brooks is such a genius
Mel brooks is one of the most oldest actors at age 96 when Betty white surpassed at age 99
"Funny, she doesn't look Druish."
Rick Moranis improvised that.
What about the bleeps, creeps, and the sweeps?
James Davis Well if I had thought it was one of the 10 funniest gags, it would be in the video, wouldn't it?
James Davis The what, the what, and the what?
BrotherReed So effectively, you went OVER OUR HELMETS!
+James Davis or they've gone to plaid?
+James Davis Iam Barf a Mog. Half man half dog.... I am my own best friend.
This movie is rated PG and it drops the f bomb
This movie presensitivity meaning that it was ok to say these things because most people knew how to take a joke back then
It's these damn colleges!
Mike Manboob There wasn't a PG-13 rating at that time
viKing1428 Not so! PG-13 was created in 1984. Spaceballs was relased in '87.
+Mike Manboob You get a limit of 1 f bomb. 2 or more and it's rated R.
Besides the Austin Powers movies, this has to be one of my favorite spoof movies.
Mike Barr I thought it spoofed James Bond. I'm most likely wrong.
***** Oh! Thought I was wrong for a second. Thanks Josh.
Spaceballs, Austin Powers, American Pie (all 3), Scary Movie 4, Naked Gun, and Zoolander were hilarious.
can't believe you cut before 'keep firing, assholes!'
superextremelaser IKR!!
+superextremelaser actually im glad he did. that parts not as funny
"Now you see that evil will always triumph because good is dumb" lol
God this movie is still hilarious. I mean every time I watch a comedy from like the 80s or something, it's never funny, the jokes are just stupid, but this movie is still hilarious all these years later!
what are you talking about, man? have u seen Airplane! Beverly Hills Cop (even though its mostly drama), Spinal Tap, Caddyshack, NL's Vacation(Chevy Chase), Top Secret!, Naked Gun, Fish Called Wanda?...
brian head Yeah I have seen most of those, I guess you got a point. I just about died laughing when I watched This is Spinal Tap
*****
How could you not know Spinal Tap is a comedy?
#9 was always my #1.
Here it is!
Out Of Order?!?
FUCK! Even in the future nothing works!
I don't know why, but since the first time I heard it. The way he says Fuck, makes me feel like no one could ever make Fuck sound as terrible as he had.
Jesse Royer You make an interesting point - when you reserve a word it's meaning is amplified.
We ain't found shit!
Ghaz3k THATS RACIST!
Steven Levine That's Mel Brooks for you always making fun at stereotypes mainly racism, (Spaceballs, To be or not to be, History of the world part 1 and (Blazing saddles partly written by Richard Pryor) plus many other films he made, complete comedy genius
Steven Levine double negatives are racist?
Steven Levine that ain't racist, that's tuvok from star trek voyager.
Steven Levine ROFL CRY moore
"Did you see anything?!"
"No sir. I did not see you playing with your dolls again."
Love that scene!!
On number 6, you forgot the part where president Skroob comes in and says "That's the combination I have on my luggage"
Another interesting one. *Skroob running* "President Skroob... Salute! Hail, Skroob!" Skroob: "The ship is too big. If I walk the movie will be over."
Retro PC User Fun Fact: Skroob is spelt Brooks backwards because it’s Mel Brooks who is the director.
Well, almost. Yet, Skroob is funnier than Skoorb.
I love how out of nowhere Dark Helmet starts having a semi-jamaican accent while taunting Lone Star
1:40 - 2:14
Soo that's where Stewie Griffin's accent and personality came from :D
I like the part where they're in the desert and he uses the megaphone to talk to Sanders, when Sanders is right next to him, and then puts it down and shouts at the people out combing.
Missing: Jamming the radar...with a jar of Jam
Raspberry
Only one man would give me the raspberry...
KlunkerRider LONESTAR!
qazqa5 [hit the camera] dunk
"evil will always triumph because good is dumb"
30 years later and this film still brings me tears of laughter!!!
Colonal Sanders killss it!!!
Did you see anything? No sir, I didn't see you playing with your dolls again. Rofl
So actually he saw?
Rick Moranis improvised that entire scene, by the way!
"Even in the future, nothing works!"
The most relatable line of all
5:05 you can clearly see George Wyner is doing his best to deliver the line without busting up laughing especially at 5:16 LOL
I agree this needs the ludicrius speed scene.. and you forgot the funniest keep firing assholes line from #2
yeah, but he can't play all the funny jokes or the whole movie will be in the clip.
"Fuck, even in the future nothing works" So, true today. Must install update, no service in area, cartridge misaligned. Fuck! Even in the future nothing works!
I love the Dark Helmet voice Rick does, it’s so fitting for an evil emperor
KEEP FOIRING, ASSHOLES!
This whole movie is a gag, and it is amazing for it.
#1 should be when spaceball one is jammed
I dont know why there is a top 10 when this entire movie is gold.
Col. Sandurz: "It's megamaid, she's gone from suck to blow!" LMFAO!!
“We ain’t found shit!”
Will always be my favorite. 😂😂
Why have best parts? The whole movie is fu*king funny
Why doesn't this have more views. Just watched it after a few beers and I laughed my face off!
I loved the movie.
I really have to rewatch this movie some time XD
The fact that they didn’t do anything to hide the faces of the stunt doubles is such an underrated classic. Lol.
I love how Kylo Ren's character is essentially Dark Helmet
No, Dark Helmet is way better
Don’t you ever disrespect dark helmet like that again
That was hilarious how he reacts when the general barges through the door while Lord Helmet plays with his dolls.
My favorites are "funny she didn't look druish to me." And " I am your father's,Brother's,Nephew's,Cousin's former roommate m"
The gag at 3:19 is especially funny now that the actor has become known for playing Tuvok, a particularly stoic character on Star trek: Voyager
This is a comedy classic
Mel Brooks movies packed so many gags in, you needed to watch them several times just to get them all.
I love it when Lonestar tells Princess Vespa "From now on, you will refer to me as IDIOT, not YOU CAPTAIN!" lol
Could watch this movie all day!
I love when Dark Helmet was speaking as if his helmet were down even though the helmet was up.
my favorite part of the whole movie is between 0:00:00 - 1:36:00
That was ludicrous!
'Even in the future nothing works.
Probably my favourite line in the film.
Most families watch Frosty the Snowman at Christmas time. Mine watched Spaceballs. Is it any wonder I ended up as messed up as I did?
"What about you guys?"
"We ain't found shee-it"
Only Mel Brooks can get away with a black joke...hahaha
What about Blazing Saddles? I think he'd get lynched if he tried to make that movie nowadays...
+Jesse Finnerty ... "The sheriff's a ..." DING goes the bell.. too funny and Cleavon Little was great in that movie, Richard Pryor was actually supposed to get the role.
Missed the scene in the diner. Especially the 'check please' at the end is unforgettably funny!
Thanks for the laugh
Rick is brilliant
Whats the matter colonel sanders? CHICKEN?!?
Rick Moranis and George Wyner completely stole the show. Brilliant chemistry.
Evil will always triumph because good is dumb. Sounds like the Star Wars prequels!
This was better than the Rise of Skywalker.
One of the funniest movies in history!
I think an underrated gag is Dark Helmet using his megaphone to speak to Colonel Sandurz, who is directly beside him, and then putting it down and shouting with his hand near his mouth to the desert combers
12345? AMAZING!!! I've got the same combination on my luggage!
I don't know why, but the reaction of Princess Vespa when she gets her hair shot had me dieing!
when will then be now?
soon...
Very soon!
My favorite joke of all time is, "I'm a Mog. Half man and half dog. I'm my own best friend."
Geoge Lucas made Mel Brooks agree that no acton figure be made for his star wars parody, Space Balls. Tht isspiored number one, here.
And the whole "moichendising" scene with Yogurt.
***** "MERCHANDISING!"
The single greatest one-word movie quote in history!
John Hurt saying "Not again!" as the alien burst through his chest was up there too.
"Check please!"
The best gag is the entire movie.
MAN WE AIN'T FOUND SHIT!¡!! I love that part.
Missing "Spaceballs? shit there goes the planet"
as a star wars fan i didn't like it as a kid (the french version i must mention), i couldn't really appreciate it for the genius parody that it is. now it just doesn't get old ^^
and sadly nowadays we have "epic movie" an "meet the spartans" ..................
How could you leave out the LUDICROUS Speed part, by far the best in the movie.
I knew it, I'm surrounded by assholes. Story of my life.
same
That's what the mayor of San Francisco says every day. Ha ha ha.
Yeah. Even my friends are assholes.
This movie is 25 Years old and I'm still laughing the shit out of me....The Humor still works...after 25 Years....Well done, Mel and may the Schwarzt be with you!
All the movie is funny
In my opinion Spaceballs is better than half of the Star Wars movies :D
12345? Amazing - I got the same combination on my cell phone :-)))
Luckily my new one is protected with my thumb print :-))
Notice for number 3, he uses the megaphone to talk to the Colonel, but he yells at the other dudes without it. XD
Brings tears every time! Love it!
#2 needs to be bumped up to #1, and the original #1 (now #2) should have Ludicrous Speed, GO!!!!
and stop
I love the fact that he uses the bullhorn to talk to Sanders who's right next to him, and then just yells at the guys in the distance.
No "I've lost the bleeps, I've lost the sweeps, and I've lost the creeps"?
That’s not all he’s lost.
Ludicrous speed is still the best gag in the entire film.
I knew it, I'm surrounded by assholes.
this movie will never get old
"Even in the future nothing works!" - Big helmet guy
My favorite movie of all time!!!!! I love this flick and laugh every time i watch it
#2 and 1 need to be reversed. the Asshole scene was the funniest and best one
Agree
2:56 Uses the megaphone to talk to the guy who's close, then doesn't use it when shouting at the guys far away.
so what this list is telling me is that Rick Moranis acting and improv+Mel Brooks writing and direction=comedy gold
I always liked in the "comb the desert" scene, helmet talks in sanders' ear with the megaphone, but yells down to the troops. Everyone overlooks it due to the obvious (but funny) pick joke.
Not since Wash's "This Land" scene on Firefly has there been such an intense moment involving action figures.
I used to love to watch this movie as an kid growing up.this when cable use to show good movies back in the days
