  • Vermont Is ROOTED In Cycling. Gravel Bike Ride: Northeast Kingdom.
    This week on our New England bike touring episode, we head over to Danville,Vermont for a scenic gravel ride in the Northeast Kingdom. This area of the Vermont is a gravel grinding dream or a great way to fuel your hunger for a bikepacking trip. Did you know that Vermont has more gravel roads than paved roads!? How bout gravel roads that lead to cute towns and cafe's as Nikki mentioned in the intro. Or gravel roads that lead to world class breweries such as Hill Farmstead Brewery. Or maybe you'd like to tour the perfectly manicured farmland that rolls along the countryside and leads up to the stunning Green Mountain Range. Yeah, its no doubt that Vermont really does have it all. It's also a stomping grounds for gravel legends such as Ted King who is featured on episodes of GCN Global Cycling Network and created Rooted Vermont Race. It's a state with deep pride in their outdoor offerings, food and drink, and keeping things just a little funky. We love living so close to the border in our hometown of Lincoln,NH and visit almost weekly in the summer months. On This gravel ride we use the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail as a main artery to the big loop we did and end up at a cool little general store right near Joe's Pond and not too far from Cabot Creamery. Food is always in the plans. As usual we just sort of wing the route and get lost for a bit, but we kinda enjoy that anyway as it always yields us something interesting. In Vermont you always feel like taking the path less pedaled. Nikki "the route whisperer" has a knack for choosing a cool ride on just her instinct. The typical northcountry weather leads us to outrun a thunderstorm before zipping back to the trail head.
    We hope you enjoy this little adventure as much as we did. We feel so grateful to be able to share it with you and that you subscribe and watch. What awesome people you all are for showing such great support!

      I would say that's an accurate way of decribing Vermont for sure. It's such an incredible place to experience by bike. Thanks for commenting.

    I grew up in Vt and moved away right out of school, typically I have explored and come to appreciate VT much more since I’ve been gone.

      Agreed Blain! I moved away from New England at same age to pursue a career and enjoyed the experience of where it took me but realized very quickly that places like Vermont and New Hampshire are very special. I'm very grateful to once again call it home. What part of VT were you from?

    • @blain5827

      And the General Stores are such a staple of Vt, as much as our covered bridges. Sadly they are fading away.

      NEK, Orleans County right on the boarder. Kinda funny that I am born Canadian, grew up in Vt and have lived in NC fir more than half my life yet I still consider myself a Vermonter above all.

      I've lived in Midwest, West and many states and I've always said that New Englander is always a New Englander no matter how long you've been gone. There's no place in the country like NEK. Do you get back here very often?

      Thank you so much, it's such a beautiful area to ride that when I watch the footage I was hoping it would capture even half of how scenic it is in actuality. Are you from that area? We love our neighbor state of Vermont.

      @@ThatMountainMoment we are now in Vermont some 33 years - on the east side of the State and not that many miles from the NH border - lots of gravel where we are and extending well above us. Endless gravel this part of VT! I can ride to Peacham from my house. That you rode there in the snow - inspiring!

    • @ThatMountainMoment
      @ThatMountainMoment  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's amazing. That's definitely a favorite area to ride. I love that it's still somewhat preserved from being highly touristed and retained a local home vibe. We have held off since that snow ride to respect the more strict travel guidelines currently in place but can't wait to be able to go back. You live in a beautiful quiet spot.

We're constantly trying to improve how we create these videos and do justice to the beauty of the northeast. Thanks for saying hello and watching.

We researched and built the entire route. It came out awesome. Thanks for coming back and commenting.
