My first listen, I was on the fence. I just couldn't get with it being a Dilla fan. But for some reason I found myself listening to it more and more. That's when I found out I was hooked on that album and didn't even know it. Production for that album was unreal.
I ran into Dilla in Cali before he passed....i remember him saying he wanted to do an album with Tash of Tha Liks that he was one of his favorite Mcs.. i just remeber being like man that will be dope....If i remeber correctly he was with OH No that day Madlibs brother
Still Shining, Enjoy Da Ride, Turn Me Up Some, What's it all about are straight fire. Dilla and Busta definitely had dope chemistry, and Dilla is so unique and dope on the mic as well.
"Won't do" is in my top 10 instrumentals of all time and second is common's "nap champa". That water for chocolate album was a masterpiece. Also, Busta should do another diligence album soon. Day 1 buy.
Won’t do is probably one of the best beats I’ve ever heard. The subtle textures in the backgrounds and the signature timing of the beat is just perfect.
The coldest Dilla Tracks in my opinion are: Black Star - Little Brother ( From the Hurricane Soundtrack Busta Rhymes - Show Me What You Got Talib Kweli - Colors Of You
Everybody naming their favorite Jay Dee Jay Dilla Beats so here's mine: Jay Dilla-Fuck The Police Busta Rhymes-Live it up Busta Rhymes-The Genesis THERES ALOT MORE.....I'LL BE BACK TO UPDATE I JUST COULDNT THINK AT THE MOMENT
Q-Tip is top five for sure. But someone else who gets slept on is the dude from the Jungle Brothers who actually gave Q-Tip his rap name. Cause Q-Tip was so skinny and had a big afro, Baby Bam said he looked like a Q-Tip. That's one story. The other one is that cause Q-Tip is from Queens he got the 'Q' from that. Either way you ask either of them and they'll say it was Baby Bam. He also changed the name of Tribe to A Tribe Called Quest. And dont quote me on this last one but I think he named De La Soul as well. In any event I think all those names fit like a glove. But Busta Rhymes got his name from Chuck D of PE. Which I think is a dope ass name. But all of those emcees got beats from J Dilla. My favorite J Dilla beat is De La Soul's "Verbal Clap"
I remember seeing Tip in the Deee Lite video. I don't think I was even 10 years old. The man is a genius. Just thankful he gave my favorite producer an opportunity....
Champion Sound is only for hardcore Madlib and Dilla fans. Champion Sound? The Mission? Survival Test? Come on! Fire! I just wish he was alive to make a Champion Sound 2....
Dope Dilla face sticker on my back windshield rollin' around Detroit showing respect like I'm spose to. Dilla will always be our Hometown Hero! Rest In Beats
@Wolf 7th dre is a producer or director that's the same thing..he hires musicians or beat makers and he directs and or arranges the music and also directs the artist as well..similar to a Quincy jones or jimmy ivine and more. I think we as hiphop heads mistake beat makers as producers sometimes they only make beats and that's it.. dre also does the mix something else a producer does
@Wolf 7th fa sho bro..I think dre ear changed after the chronic and he figured out something different when he switched hats from making beats to overseeing the whole production I definitely think that extended his career as opposed to him just making beats
@@ederrell6032 The original culture of Hip Hop started with the Beat maker and producer being one in the same. The era of the executive producer came later when the money became heavy. Dilla, Premo, Pete Rock amongst others, hark from the Hip Hop producers truest art form. Dre started that way.

Love the interview, love Bus-a-bus and really miss Jay Dee 💔
Respect to Q-Tip, always been a fan, I’d say Premier is the East Coast Dr. Dre. Not so much in the sense that Dre brought up some amazing artists but was behind SOOOO many songs by so many artists with different styles.
Dre has a great sound no denying. I think longevity wise Dre’s beats don’t stand up against Rock/Dilla’s. In my opinion there’s a lot of throw away songs on both chronic albums. He had to change his sound because of Eminem’s pop crossover. None of that really worked for me either. If you fine tooth comb Rock/Dilla’s stuff, they’re way ahead
J.Dilla's Climax instrumental is one of the coldest beats I ever heard in my life. RiP
EVER BRO LOL ❤️💎
"is like a dream come true" 🔥🔥🔥
STUPENDOUS FACTS!!!
All facts!
WORD
That Dilla produced Electric Circus was hella dope and under appreciated. Those beats are insane
I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels that way I love that album. Soul Power and Aquarius is my shit. Dilla is the King of Beats.
Don't forget that " Like water for chocolate" some of dilla's best work.
Yeah fools was trippin dissing that album. Was too ill for the time
That album was ahead of its time!

Tash is that dude. Tha Alkaholiks is still my personal favorite hip hop group
Alkoholiks gave Madlib and Lootpack their break so that would have been very full circle.
Dilla probably has the greatest back catalog in music
Dilla in my opinion is still light years ahead.
Very much so
Greatest of all time 🐐
Nobody knows what to do with themselves after he died. He was so far ahead of everyone they’re still copying his style.
Oh yeah, no doubt
STILL. Some beats I'll hear today will hot me in that familiar place and when I look it up...Dilla!
What JayDee did with Pharcyde on LabCabInCalifornia is some of my favorite music.
No booldook. That's one of the most underrated rap albums ever...
Y? Remix is my favorite and we know runnin is legendary

That was his best work. Runnin was his best track. He ruined Tribe tho...

Dilla was my favorite producer even back when he was Jay Dee. And Q-Tip IS east coast hip-hop. Legends.
The content on these podcasts is amazing. Thank you. Keep it coming.
I love that these elder statesmen of hip hop are now getting the reverence they deserve. Busta Rhymes is a legend!!

my fav is Crustation - Purple (Jay Dee remix)
Thelonious - the instrumental - yep! But with Slum Village and Common! Bruh!
Slum Village "Untitled/fantastic" is probably my favorite J Dilla track
It's so epic. Jurrasic Park epic! I never had a favorite until I heard Rock Box about a year ago. It's emotional....
“It can’t can’t stop, it can’t can’t quit” (untitled/fantastic) is my fav rap track period
Man its up there. Love it.
STILL SHINING.

That track hits way further ahead of its time than the rest of the album
Still Shining, Enjoy Da Ride, Turn Me Up Some, What's it all about are straight fire. Dilla and Busta definitely had dope chemistry, and Dilla is so unique and dope on the mic as well.
Busta is my pick. #1 rapper.
Two goated MCs. RIP Dilla, the greatest producer of all time in Hip Hop.

Tribe Called Quest inspired Outkast
Yup. ATCQ was their favorite group. They auditioned for Organized Noize by spitting over the "Scenario" beat (I wanna say the remix).

And Slum village vo1 intro my god that intro beat hits so hard
That intro really sets the tone for the album i love Vol1 fantastic series was amazing
