The first 5 minutes of this review is probably one of the best that I have seen on TH-cam. The view from the side as opposed to the ones you get from someone's helmet camera was really useful, plus the fact that he is the same height as me, helped me visualise myself on it. Great review. The only doubt I have about this bike is the sitting position, as I have a dodgy back and wonder if the sofa sitting position would be painful for me.
@@12010601 How is it on a longer ride? I am looking into getting one, I am a first time rider, was planning on starting on an antique honda CB350 but have decided to start on a newer bike due to reliability and I am between one of these and a Vulcan 900
@@jasonzimmerman7379 Haven't taken it on a longer ride that 2 hours. This isn't my first motorcycle but I haven't ridden in about 20 years so I am an inexperienced rider and this bike feels perfect. After a few months of riding and gaining some more experience I feel I could have went with something a little bigger. If you are planning on some long distance trips I may consider something bigger on the highway.
@@jasonzimmerman7379 I took my Vulcan S on a 15 hour round trip over a weekend back in September. The seat really isn't designed to be ridden that long, and it gets pretty uncomfortable after a little over an hour. If you stop frequently to rest your butt it isn't so bad, but putting 15 hours in the saddle over a period of 48 hours left my butt screaming for relief by the time I was close to getting back home. So if you're wanting to take long trips, I wouldn't recommend it, but if you're just looking to take it a few hours to your destination and back, it's no problem. I have a windscreen on mine which helps a lot if you're cruising at 70+ mph.
I'm a beginner and wanted a cruiser but in Australia you're limited to a 650cc or less so this is as big as you can go. Amazing bike for me to learn on it's got more power than i need, goes where you want and so easy to manage. I'm 6'4" and 115kg and with the extended reach I fit really comfortably
No they are good on reliability, I finally got a chance to ride one and glad I got the Bolt instead....just a better looking more powerful bike in the end. However I am jealous that the Vulcan has liquid cooling and a 6th speed....but those 2 things not enough to change my mind.
Kawa and Honda figured out how to sell cruisers to the new generations, put a sport bike engine in a cruiser frame. Also, having so much fun riding that you get lost is the best feeling.

Hey Kuhan, now that 9 months has passed, how are you liking your Vulcan? I'm seriously considering getting one. Also, were you a new rider when you started?
I have had the 2017 model for two years now. I'm not a beginner rider but I can confirm all the points raised in this video. It really is unbelievably easy to ride and goes around corners and even hairpins. They set up mine with mid-range reach and was tempted to pull them back to short reach even though I am 181 cms tall (5'11''). I normally ride nakeds with legs tucked tightly beneath. I figured that drawing in the pegs a further 2.54 cms ((1'') would not make all that much difference so I left it as it was. Some riders don't like the sound; they think it's not loud enough. It doesn't really bother me. What I did adjust were the mirrors. I bought some extenders because I was having trouble seeing past my shoulders. As for the rest: I just left as is. It is not normal for someone who has a thing about European bikes to sing the praises of a Japanese bike but take it from me, this is one amazing bike. I also can't understand how they squeezed so much juice out of a 649cc engine. I took it up to 155 kph (96 mph in British money) and was well within its limits and capable of more.

Hi MotoChooch, from Bombay India. Agree with you 100%. Iam 166 cm,67kg and started riding a year ago after a 30 year gap- on the Vulcan 650 S. Perfect for a light weight beginner / re rider like me. If ever theres something like a Sporty Cruiser, this is it. Kawasaki got it right with the engineering, handling, engine responses, transmission and the ergo-fit system. Lach of LED headlights is something Kawasaki should correct at no extra cosy. Good wingscreens are available to handle the wind blast at 120-150kph. My only crib is after 150-200 km riding, I lose all awareness of my behind (numb bum). Guess I have to do some seat redesigning. In heavy bumper to bumper city traffic, vehicles alongside tend to be unaware of you filtering up- its so relatively silent. So some work on the exhaust systems which may also help to improve the meagre 13 cm clearance, 16 cm is ideal. Shockers and brakes are more than adequate. Riding the twisties is simply joyful. Other than that, Vulcan S 650 forever. Plus any other bikes you want to have👌.
I ordered the 2018 at my dealership 2 months ago. It will arrive in 1 month I'm sooooo excited and watch this video almost every night before going to sleep.
@@MotoChooch thank you! It is my first bike, so I will treat it with nothing but the highest respect. Btw the excitement in this video is what made me look deeper into the vulcan S soo much love Greetings from Switzerland
I agree 100%. I’m a beginner rider and when I was looking for my first motorcycle, the Vulcan S just popped out at me. I started looking at reviews and I decided to go to sit on one. Rode out on one the same day. That was about a month ago and I love it. I’m always looking for a reason to get on it and ride! I did go with the café, I just thought it looked a bit cooler.
I bought one from new and have just under 2000km on it and I can't see myself ever getting rid of it, I love it. I will be changing the exhaust, mirrors and putting a tail tidy on it but everything else is good
I have the Vulcan S, Ninja 650 and the Yamaha Raider and I find myself wanting and riding this more than my other bikes for all the reasons and more he describes. It’s a fun fun motorcycle and with the Delkevic exhaust sounds soooo good ! Get one ☝️
I'm stuck between the Ninja 650 and the Vulcan S and I think a test drive will be the decider. Haven't been on a bike in a decade and I was an idiot who learned to ride on a ZX9R.
Two Brothers exhaust makes the ride sooo much more pleasurable. Not to mention taking off throttle restricter and power restrictor plug - this will reduce top speed but gives it a heap more punch low down/mid range. Beast of a bike
Yes. As a Vulcan S owner myself, I agree that this machine is awesome! Just make sure you can get an after market exhaust, more powerful than the stock one and you'll be fine. I have a pretty cool exhaust made by Miller = AAA level of awesomeness. But again just make sure that the part is legal where you live.
I have a kawasaki vulcan 900 and love it. You are right it is kinda heavy and takes a minute to get the feel of tight cornering. I'm not a new rider though but I am 5'6'' 150 lbs. And had alot of older inline 4 sport cruisers that definently handled better.
This model is my 7th cruiser and by far it is the sleeper. This bike is quick and nimble especially for a cruiser. Performance wise, this is great! Looks wise / sound, i’ll keep my phantom or bolt
For you guys in America, a Vulcan s 650 it's a first rider's option. For us, in Brazil, it's a dream's motorcycle that one normal guy needs to work almost 8 years of he's life to maybe never have one ......#sadlife
I have a 2017 Vulcan S ABS Cafe. These are just great bikes for the price. These bikes are surprisingly fast as he says in this video. Super smooth engine. Great bike for beginners and veteran riders both. I love this bike. It’s not a Harley and it’s not trying to imitate a Harley. That’s what I love about it. It’s in a class all by itself.
I am just shopping / researching a bike. I haven't ridden since 1989. Chooch's enthusiasm makes want to just get one of these without test riding anything else. I just wish it came with a fairing.
Got mine in 2017 the SE version, deep red. Not my first bike and i still enjoy the bike like it's the first day. fun to ride, fast enough to keep up on the highway, looks great. it's funny the first year i got the bike a lot of riders we're asking and stopping because they never saw one before.
Dude ! I'm a new rider and we are the same height and.... physique.... I'm off the the local Kawasaki dealer tomorrow, going to try the Vulcan and the Ninja 650 and the Versys a try but I like the look of the vulcan and it's great to see bigger blokes like us test these bikes and give them a thumbs up, nice one mate, cheers.
I loved your review! You really captured the almost giddy excitement that is contagious. I was buying one of these even before seeing your review but you made the case virtually airtight! Probably picking it up withing the next week or so or I may wait until spring. I will be using the Ergo-Fit for the reduced reach (5'6" 170lbs).
Given that the engine is a modified Ninja - yeah, it has TORK and will accelerate fast, pushing you into the seat. I have a 2017 with the extended reach set up. Great commuting bike to work and back.
I'm a new rider and I've had mine for a year now as of Oct and love it. Rode over 8k in a year. I've put in a power commander, two brothers exhaust as well as had the seat customized. You'll need ear plugs for the two brothers but i guess should wear them anyway. Makes the bike sound awesome and not so sneaky which is safer imo. Maybe it's placebo effect but i also feel it's a little faster with the two brothers and the power commander. Takes some getting use to though as it's pretty loud. Due to the riding position there's a lot of pressure on the tailbone so gel seat has been awesome too. Love this bike. Also added givi 22l bags.
Glad you liked the bike. My 2015 (non-ABS) was my first (and so far only) bike. I love it. I guess I'll have to watch more of your videos to see if you bought one. Addressing the weight and suspension preload, I'm 5'6' and ~250lbs (Yeah, I'm a fat guy) and I adjusted the preload two clicks tighter and it feels great. I ride mine to work on the freeway in Fort Worth / Irving every day that the weather is good. I did put a cheap windscreen on mine and feel pretty much no wind at 85+. Part of why I chose the KVS is due to my short height, and short-for-my-height inseam. At 29", I needed something relatively low. I can flat-foot with both feet. I'd feel more comfortable with something a little higher now, but staring out, it was perfect. After 3+ years of riding the thing, I still LOVE it. I'm only now starting to think about getting another bike, and a 900 Custom is probably my first choice at this point.
sitting and listening through countless user reviews about vulcan s your's is the most over the top excited about this bike. Considering the many mixed reviews but overall positive feedback on the bike does support your reaction while it feels a bit overselling. I still have some doubt about the seat comfort over longer distances and the pricy custom mods and the suspension but these can be easily overshadowed by the bike's overall quality which seems indeed exceptional.
Cycle Center of Denton is exactly where I go to look at bikes to plan to save up for. I actually sat on this exact bike today. So glad to see a good review of it!

Check with your CO regarding riding motorcycles in the military. My buddy was a marine and they made him take extra safety courses before they let him ride.
i love your enthusiasm , i have a 2017 cafe that i purchased about 6 months ago. I've watched countless videos on the vulcan and you sir have the best. I only have one thing you could have improved on, which is the fact this bike appeals to that real biker kid in everyones heart; sure its not for cross country and no its not a rocket but it does everything well. I remember a video where a guy said the worst thing about the vulcan s is that it does everything well but it does nothing great which makes it boring. I think that is why this bike is great. It's not the squid like rocket machine so you can really enjoy the cruise getting to point B because you're h2 got you there in warp speed. It's not a eight hundred pound giant you have to lug around and choose not to ride to you're nearest convenient store because of hassle. I think if cars were banned and everyone was issued a motorcycle it would be somthing like the vulcan s "well truth be told it would probably be a vespa" but the vulcan would be awesome for everyone; anyway im getting distracted. When I move out to AZ I plan on getting a Vulcan S. That red is so pretty
Not a beginner, but my first bike was a Vulcan 900 as well. Now looking at one of these. Like the lighter weight, styling and the 6 speed gearbox.
It sounds like a Kawasaki 😁😁.
I was just there a few days ago looking at a vulcan s. Awesome bike.
Loved your enjoyment of this ride! This has been on my list for some time, so your enthusiasm is compelling!
I ordered the 2018 at my dealership 2 months ago. It will arrive in 1 month I'm sooooo excited and watch this video almost every night before going to sleep.
My dude! That's awesome thank you 😁. Congrats and good luck!!!
@@MotoChooch thank you! It is my first bike, so I will treat it with nothing but the highest respect. Btw the excitement in this video is what made me look deeper into the vulcan S soo much love
Greetings from Switzerland
I agree 100%. I’m a beginner rider and when I was looking for my first motorcycle, the Vulcan S just popped out at me. I started looking at reviews and I decided to go to sit on one. Rode out on one the same day. That was about a month ago and I love it. I’m always looking for a reason to get on it and ride! I did go with the café, I just thought it looked a bit cooler.
The wind screen Is really the only mod you'll need to make it look like the cafe.
I ordered one after watching your video. I was on the fence after sitting on one, but after seeing your enthusiasm, it was contagious lol.
I bought one from new and have just under 2000km on it and I can't see myself ever getting rid of it, I love it. I will be changing the exhaust, mirrors and putting a tail tidy on it but everything else is good
That was genuine enthusiasm, also I am now sold on this Bike for a Commuter. Thank you
Your enthusiasm is incredibly infectious.
Jeremy Quiroga it was my pleasure! Thank you for watching!
Why does that reduce top speed?
Great vid. Not just a beginner bike any age. As an old git its perfect too. Had mine 4 years and love it to bits.
I have a kawasaki vulcan 900 and love it. You are right it is kinda heavy and takes a minute to get the feel of tight cornering. I'm not a new rider though but I am 5'6'' 150 lbs. And had alot of older inline 4 sport cruisers that definently handled better.
you can hear the genuine surprise and how exited he is about it. warms my heart
This model is my 7th cruiser and by far it is the sleeper. This bike is quick and nimble especially for a cruiser. Performance wise, this is great! Looks wise / sound, i’ll keep my phantom or bolt
Wow that modern look makes me want one as a first cruiser
For you guys in America, a Vulcan s 650 it's a first rider's option. For us, in Brazil, it's a dream's motorcycle that one normal guy needs to work almost 8 years of he's life to maybe never have one ......#sadlife
First riders option if you can afford the $7,500 pricetag, haha.
Same on balcan
I have a 2017 Vulcan S ABS Cafe. These are just great bikes for the price. These bikes are surprisingly fast as he says in this video. Super smooth engine. Great bike for beginners and veteran riders both. I love this bike. It’s not a Harley and it’s not trying to imitate a Harley. That’s what I love about it. It’s in a class all by itself.
I am just shopping / researching a bike. I haven't ridden since 1989.
Chooch's enthusiasm makes want to just get one of these without test riding anything else. I just wish it came with a fairing.
The best review i've ever seen on TH-cam for 650 Vulcan S 👍🏼 Keep it up mate, it was so fun to watch 😄
Got mine in 2017 the SE version, deep red. Not my first bike and i still enjoy the bike like it's the first day. fun to ride, fast enough to keep up on the highway, looks great. it's funny the first year i got the bike a lot of riders we're asking and stopping because they never saw one before.
DUDE! I've watched a lot of reviews lately on this bike (and also compared to the Honda rebel) and YOUR review has got me wanting one RIGHT NOW!
Only half way through your review and you've almost sold me on this motorcycle. I LOVE your excitement riding it.
I had a GSR 750 as my second bike after 125 RKV, I actually drove one Vulcan for my test, good bike easy to control
I'm stuck between the Ninja 650 and the Vulcan S so what did you go with?
I loved your review! You really captured the almost giddy excitement that is contagious. I was buying one of these even before seeing your review but you made the case virtually airtight! Probably picking it up withing the next week or so or I may wait until spring. I will be using the Ergo-Fit for the reduced reach (5'6" 170lbs).
I love your enthusiasm.
And of course it is an excellent beginner bike.
I am 5 ft tall with a 26 inseam and kawasaki built it specifically for me.
Everybody loves the Vulcan S.
Just bought a '15 and I LOVE it!!!!
Given that the engine is a modified Ninja - yeah, it has TORK and will accelerate fast, pushing you into the seat. I have a 2017 with the extended reach set up. Great commuting bike to work and back.
I'm from Albuquerque and that joke never gets old.
This dude's enjoyment is gold
I was trying to decide on this or the Rebel 500 and you sold me on this.
Cory Mac Bolt
Got my '16 few months back. Love It!! 5k RPM=Fun Zone!!
Get her up to 7. Then she really takes off!!!
Thank you for this wonderfull review! This video is a big part of why i bought my brand new Vulcan S 2020 yesterday!
I love your enthusiastic review! I plan to get a Vulcan next year. My short self can't handle our 2 Ninjas, so the Ergofit is perfect for me.
sitting and listening through countless user reviews about vulcan s your's is the most over the top excited about this bike.
Your enthusiasm makes me laugh every time. I've said it before, but if you had the money, and the space, you would clearly own a LOT of bikes.
It was between this and the Bolt, I chose the Bolt and have ZERO regrets
I just bought one brand new from the dealer. Looking forward to riding it. Unfortunately its -40 out and wont be warming up for a while. This video made me look forward to riding even more.
These are really nice. Test drive one for my dad and it was a blast! Just a bit small for him. 6’ 2+ 230+
Love the enthusiasm! I'm waiting to get the right one and this has sold me even more. Keep it up, subbed :D
Chooch, it's nice to hear a biker "gush" about a bike that one was not ready to experience!! Doug🏍️🤓👍
Subscribed because this dudes energy is great.
Thank you so much!
Makes me so happy just looking at this bike …love it ……it’s gorgeous !
Way to go CHOOCH! It is great to see you without the helmet on and the beard is a good look for you! So many reviewers are afraid of showing THEMSELVES- DON'T BE! Trust yourself, your honesty, enthusiasm as well as humor will come shining through! Great vid! I want a Vulcan and I don't even like cruisers!!!!!!!
This was my first ride that I owned back in 2015. Loved it for a beginner.
What did you trade up to and why??
@@HooDRidEWhiteY
I second that. I couldn't imagine selling mine.
just bought a 2019 with 2k miles, i LOVE it. i also have a 04 zx10r. vulcan is more fun for me. my girlfriend gets excited to ride the vulcan.
Congrats and enjoy! Ride safe!
I truly agree , as I'm a Vulcan rider ,, the bike is amazing
With my weekend drill pay and upcoming pay that I'm gonna get from basic training I should be able to start riding by the end of my senior yr of high school. Cant wait to cruise around on the weekends it looks like a lot of fun
Check with your CO regarding riding motorcycles in the military. My buddy was a marine and they made him take extra safety courses before they let him ride.
Would like to see you do a review on the 650 Versys.
I am enthralled by your enthusiasm. Great video. Thanks!
i love your enthusiasm , i have a 2017 cafe that i purchased about 6 months ago. Vlucan S good for beginners, advanced appreciate it and everyone should try it.
Thank you sir!
What a pleasant and honest review to watch. Thank you!
I have one. Really cool bike.
Nice to see someone so happy riding this thing.😂
