I mean, I wouldn't go portable with the 101D 😄 They all sound different too... but if pushed, I'd say I prefer to listen to the 710 on most days. It has a lovely smooth and pleasant broad-spectrum audio that is easy on the ear. No amaount of EQ fiddling can recreate that tone on the other two - and they both sound very different to each other also! The best one is the one you ENJOY using the most on any given day.
The 101D is first place on Sherwood and at 1/3 of the price, the DX10 is number 3. Like I said, that's a value. Not sure why you have all three, but power to ya. @@2E0RME

I had the 10 first and I think it's the best all-rounder because it can do base and portable... but the 101 does base way better, and the 710 is smaller, lighter, and uses 1Ah less on RX. It's also less fiddley to operate, so it's become my main /P rig now. The acquisition of the 101 & 710 has made the 10 a bit redundant, but I've put it to good use as a DATA modes rig because it's fairly quiet under load. I think the killer value rig is the 710. Amazing for that price! It's more fun to use for rag chews than the dx10, but it soon gets frustrating for DX because there's no direct access to the DSP (notch, contour, width, shift). That's where the dx10 has a major advantage. PS That Sherwood list is meaningless. 😉
This is not a comparison. The 101D has a much better receiver. 990 is a pretty radio, and works well in the first receiver, but the Yaesu is magical. I have it's little brother the DX10. It bested my K3S. And look where it is on the Sherwood list.
Dynamic range at 2k isn’t all that useful when you are listening to a 3k signal. There is a reason he (Sherwood) calls it the CW contesting test. For SSB, the 990s has the best score for harmonic distortion at 20k, something useful for side and phone.
@@johnarcher9480 meaningless when you are being blown away from someone 2-3k away. Not all communications are done at 20 over 9 on something like 80 meter where people operate like channelized CB. Distortion or someone else’s bandwidth is irrelevant on weak signal work. Wide SSB signals are actually harder to hear in marginal conditions.
This is a joke ... plus a blurry video. How can they run in sync... If you just 10Hz apart, they will sound different. Sergio, you should try again with a serious setup. Both rigs can be remote controlled via USB CAT to be precise in sync of frequency. Could be done with a simple terminal software. It would be interresting to compare - but not with such a setup :-((
How can you compare a 101d 100 watt against a 990 200 watt radio? The 101m; 200 watt version, has added filters and better signal response than the 101d. Also, your doing more adjustments on the Kenwood then on the Yaesu. This is a bias review. Your a Kenwood fan boy and don't favor the Yaesu. This is not a fair video. Why didn't you explain what you were doing to us verbally?

For me, the best radio, the one that is turned on at your table, transmits the best emotion. Sherwood’s rankings have virtually nothing to do with SSB phone.
