Good work Anthony. Those 7mm plates will save this, excerpted from Baileys site......... "Another common cause of Hilux low RPM rattle is a dirty or clogged intake manifold. It is worth trying (and good maintenance practice) to remove and clean the intake. The EGR system feeds exhaust gasses back into the intake, including carbon, which builds up over time. We regularly see cars with 35-50% of the inlet blocked up where the EGR links in. Once we have cleaned this out, the rattle has seemed quieter. Either way, this is good maintenance practice, as it balances out the AFRs (air-fuel ratios), giving some fuel economy gains." Everything is a compromise and has faults, including EGR systems and KD motors, but as Anthony insists, the only way forward to ensure your motor is safe and reliable for many hundreds of thousands of km, is to do maintenance, maintenance and a bit more maintenance. The maintenance, like injector replacement, is like insurance and it is a workaround to prevent bing butta bing,... disaster.
I got the Prado 1kd. egr cooler pipe cracked as u described on weld, I put full block plate and egr delete chip plus rerouted cooler hoses to bypass it. I don't trust em coz if the leak coolant inside the cooler then engine is toast as water water don't compress at all. did all this about a year ago and she still runs clean crisp. low egt's and head temps(with engine guard) and no fault codes.
Even though my EGR is “switched off” (as I use my vehicle on the farm only), I think it’s still necessary to plate off the EGR cooler intake so that way I can bypass the cooler with the coolant pipes and so protect against cooler crack failure. Am I reading this right?
I fitted a 7mm plate to my 2kd hiace and at some point the inlet pipe cracked letting exhaust gas into the engine bay. The mounting bolt had come loose. Got a replacement cooler used threadlock on the mounting bolt and actually removed the 7mm plate engine runs better then its ever run
What did you do to clean the carbon out? I used oven cleaner but took about 20 goes and still when flush it I got carbon coming out that wasn't without soaking the inside with mr muscle as well. I think I need an ultrasonic cleaner to do the job properly.
Another great video Anthony. You glossed over a full egr block, i have one after a full intake/egr clean and fresh injectors from you and it's run like a dream for the 2 years since. Quiet, smooth, no rattles or smoke and oil as clear as honey. But i've also read like you mentioned that a full block might be bad because no wastegate and the 1KD vents back through the EGR. Legalities aside, do you really think a full block is worse then a 7mm plate?
Hello. Thanks for video. I have po400 egr and its egr valve has punctured due to never has been cleaned. And i am in search of it. But could not find it in Mongolia. Could u help, please?
Hi Anthony. Are you definitely sure that the turbo boost ''dumps'' back through the EGR valve? Is there a way to test and confirm this? Thanks for the videos that I have learnt sooo much from and applied to my own Hilux. Jy is 'n yster 👊🏻
Im working on a Toyota 1kd engine,it's pushing coolant thru the reservoir , replaced the cylinder head problem problem persists.can egr cooler cause that??
Nailed my problem for me. My mechanic did a 7mm plate install while I cleaned out the EGR and intake (1KD 280,000ks) and made a noticeable difference. About a month ago started hearing what sounded like an exhaust leak, soot under the EGR cooler and a drop in power. Just had a good look at the ole girl and the pipe is cracked big time underneath where it joins the cooler. Can this be repaired or do I need a new cooler?
I have a 2008 Hilux with a 2KD engine (185,000 km). I have been getting the engine check light and the DTC is P0400. The engine check light comes on when I have been on idle for some time and sometimes it will just come on after driving for like about an hour or 2 on the highway. It would seem 2KD does not have EGR cooler, there is just a steel pipe from the head to the EGR. Looks like a slightly different architecture. Anyone with this experience on 2KD engine?
Hey mate really appreciate your videos, I've gained alot out of them. After doing a full clean of egr, intake and cooler. I've got a p0400 and p0406. Ive had the system apart several times, it seems all the vacuum lines and plugs are where they should be. If I apply a vacuum to egr the valve will operate. After extensive googling I can't seem to diagnose the issue. I'm wondering what other tests I can run before pulling the pin and buying a new egr assembly. Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
@@Fourby4Diesel looking at live data list. Egr close learn value is 0.8v. Would I be correct in thinking this is what's triggering the p0406. This is at idle and operating temp.
Best Toyota hilux what’s going on under the bonnet and how videos on TH-cam!! Learning heaps 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Good work Anthony.

Careful with info from others 😉
Is a gasket with a 7mm hole a good idea?
Thanks Steve.
Very good Clear information thanks Anthony great video cheers Marc
the information from this bloke is great. ive learned so much from these video s . thanks mate

The bolt doesn’t come loose ever it was left loose

I’m not sure that it will cause issues.

What is the best way to clean the carbon out

# Facts 🤣, you're going off topic again Ants, I'm trying not to skip fast forward or end the video.
Older video but listen anyway It could be important

Either
Technically I think it would be a
Water to Air Intercooler
&/or possibly a Radiator.
After cleaning egr in $20.00 only INR 1400.suv toyota fortuner treat me like new horse added.

Es correcto. tu EGR es mas simple porque cumple con normativa EURO3. son los que se fabricaron hasta el año 2012

Don’t buy any parts because it won’t be those

Yeah. The dumb BS idea ! Egr makes intake dirty. After the intake is blocked, its all soot and high fuel consumption and loss of power
Worse for thr enviro then surely, more Co2 😄
