  • Video of a storm chase just north east of Selma NC of a tornado during the April 16 2011 tornado outbreak in Eastern North Carolina. Brief video of the tornado it's self. This is the tornado that formed in Selma and went on to destroy alot of property in Selma, Micro, and Kenly NC.
Same Supercell that dropped a tornado near Fayetteville and caused damage all along the I-95 corridor including a couple of fatalities near Benson and Godwin NC. This may even be the same tornado that went into Wilson NC. Looks similar, large Cone shape, and it was the same Supercell. I have 2 other videos of this Supercell as it was approaching the Selma/Smithfield area on TH-cam
None of my videos are for re-use without permission.

I just wanted to say thank you for posting this video.. so much news coverage on the larger cities and towns, but micro was hit equally hard. I myself had lived in this town for most of my life up until 7 or so yrs ago, to see the devastation first hand is truly amazing.

I live in Wayne County, i was doing the same thing you were doing except i was at my house. I was tracking the storms on my PC, and had my weather radio blaring! Im gonna do the same thing your doing when i get older. I go to church in Kenly in Johnston County, we went around Micro and boy was it bad!

@countrygent No problem. Growing in a small town in I know how it feel to be left out of everything. The bigger towns always get the coverage, financial assistance, etc.

@chevymonte1 It used to be common thought that overpasses would be safe. It was proved otherwise in the May 3rd 1999 Bridge Creek/Moore OK F-5 tornado. There were multiple fatalities of people that took shelter under over passes. It acts as a wind tunnel and funnels the wind and debris through there alot faster than being out in the open.

Namerifrats I’ve heard that before-I saw and heard about that incident in the news, and I would never pull underneath a highway overpass in order to escape a tornado. The best thing to do is to pull over on the shoulder of your the road and jump into the ditch, then kneel down,,with your head tucked in between your knees, then cover your head with your fingers which protects yourself from flying debris.

@georgeskitty I appreciate it! Yeah once I spotted the wall cloud rotating I was trying to keep up with it. Not very easy around here with all the trees blocking view. Not to mention the storm was moving around 55mph.

@Namerifrats ya man after it was all said and done i always thought it was the right thing to do to run up under a overpass, i was QUICKLY informed differently lol. but there wasnt any ditches around unfortuently. you got alot better footage than me, but then again, im from calvert county md, we dont git tornados! Haha, just glad i made it out bo.

@MrVanquish83 Don't have anymore damage footage. I ended up being blocked by a few trees and had to double back into town. Got gas and took of toward Goldsboro to try and catch the next cell.

@chevymonte1 The last thing you want to do in a tornado is run up under an overpass. You're better off out in the open than in one of those wind tunnels. Never go under an overpass seeking shelter!!
As far as hail, golfball size is about the biggest we get here in NC. If you had been hit by actual softball sized hail, you'd probably still be laying there. lol, that stuff can go through the roof of a house and regularly kills large livestock, even the occasional person.
