      Linear progression probably won't last that long to be Frank.
      Now I'm sure that he can at least get his press to 800 maybe 1000 pounds which is already very impressive. To be honest 405 which he did is already better than most to be Frank's. But eventually progress slows down.
      Imo...I tink da chase will get to a 450 press maybe 475. That is my guess. He is a coach now so I'm sure he is focusing less on his own training and more on hims students. Hope dis one makes scene

    I read the article about the press in the Olympics on the website. Long story short. The stricter and slower the press. The harder it is to bribe or trick judges. Also the longer it takes to make the number over your head go up in the case of the heroes on deck actually trying to outlift each other. I like that the one thing that was agreed upon all the way to the end was that the press was the true strength test. The clean and jerk and snatch were seen as athletic tests. When the press was dropped from the Olympics, the public started caring more about powerlifting and bodybuilding. That's the only place left where the biggest and strongest people compete.

Or is it just something that you learn as you get stronger at the lifts? I imagine the complaints about it usually claim it is not safe for the back.

  • @aychar
    @aychar 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I don't think that anyone that criticises the lean on the press thinks they could do it if they could lean back like that. Not one person he read out even claimed it made it easier.

    • @Francesco-cj3oi
      @Francesco-cj3oi 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      it's inherent in the claim. If you complain about the lift not being an actual press it means you think it's cheating, which means you think it's easier than it would be otherwise. Why would you claim that if you don't believe you could do it? Unless you're a moron, which these people are.
      I don't care how much knowledge you think you have, if you're pressing 185lbs you don't get to criticize someone who presses 405lbs, unless you're a SS coach, but even then it's hard to do.
      These are all people that are not strong, so they want to find excuses for it instead of training and getting stronger.

    • @mbdyner
      @mbdyner 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Francesco-cj3oi I agree that it's pretty obvious they're implying it's easier to do it leaning back than standing straight up, but of course there's reason to question form even if you couldn't do it yourself. It sounds like a lot of deflection to me. If Usain Bolt starts running before the starter pistol and you disqualify him, are you saying you could run a sub-10? Isn't it enough that you have eyes and ears and can tell it was a false start? When Rip is calling out powerlifting federations for not judging depth, is he saying he could quarter-squat whatever ridiculous > 1000lb weights those guys are doing? Either the lean-back is okay or it isn't, doesn't matter who judges it. And if it's okay, then that's all you need to say.

    • @pineapplepizza4016
      @pineapplepizza4016 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Francesco-cj3oi I think most people would lack the flexibility to even contort their body in that position. His upper body is nearly at a 45 degree angle at one point. How many people do you know that can do that? If you don't like the word cheating then let's call it an "assisted" press. If someone is capable of getting in that position than it WILL help them get the weight up. Otherwise, why not lift the same weight using a strict press without arching?
