I think Gonagain is one of the best channels for episodes of outdoor exploration of our beautiful lands of America. Keeping the camera on the surrounding area and occasionally on your faces keeps the interest going of what is being explored. Too you keep us informed of camping amenities and other things that make camping complete and so enjoyable. Also you are great to remind all who are viewing your channel, to respect the camping areas for keeping it clean for the next camper after you have come and gone. And when you see where the careless or really said, the care less leave trash behind, pitch in and clean up what you can so that the party responsible for providing the lands to explore, keep same open for all.

We often camped around the west with out trailer, and yes I had a milk crate or 2 of rocks at the end of each trip. Don often referred to "The Long Long Trailer" (Ricky and Lucy) and often said, "someday they'll find us and what's left of a trailer full of rocks off some mountainside😅". A very fond memory of him. Now it's just me and Sam dog, SUV camping in our 4runner and still bringing home rocks😊.

I was camping in the National Forest here in Alabama about 15 years ago in what I now would call a dispersed camping area. We had just got camp set up when a ranger came into camp and told us they were bouldering up the road into the camping area and if we wanted to get out, we better get packing. I asked him why they were closing it off and he told me that vehicles traveling back to these camps were dropping oils and such that was having some bad effect on some muscle in the creek. I looked at the creek and told the ranger that they needed to have a talk with that bird that was eating the muscles.
Needless to say, we left in an orderly fashion but were not happy about it. There is way too much going on in the name of "saving it for our children". We can use the land and still save it.

Of all the places in the US, I never would have thought it would be Montana limiting accessibility to our public lands. There's got to be quite the story behind it.

isn't strange that a country of the people , for the people by the people tells the people what they can or can not do with the 'government's" land , also strange the largest gold producing state in our country, Nevada, is almost completely owned by the government. (85% +)

The land is managed by the United States department of agriculture.
      Not the state of Montana.
Secondly, the United States Forest service, a department of the USDA is subject to the same financial restraints you and I are.
There's only so much money that we don't have, that were allowed to spend.
What I am telling you is Washington politicians have decided what the budgets are going to be.
Then the same thing but would happen to you or I, things get cut back when the money gets cut off.
My advice is be careful who you vote for. And when you do make sure you do your homework and elect people who are more concerned with our environment than they are which bathroom who uses.
      Seriously.

I've lived in Idaho, California, and now Oregon working in the wood products industry while mills were forced to close, one by one. One company (Sierra Pacific) gained preferred status in CA while long established companies (LP, GP, and others) had to leave. Many of the private lands were taken over by SP and the Sierra Club, limiting access to members only. As more and more roads are being gated off throughout the west, an issue has arisen; unused roads are growing over with brush and trees making access for firefighters next to impossible. I believe that this is the cause of the giant wildfires we now experience every year.

This maybe an unpopular comment but that is not my goal. I use to get so angry when the rangers would close camping areas in Arizona for 6, 7 years at a time until I was able to observe firsthand how human activity can destroy areas. There was a hidden little gem of a camping spot that had a 50'x50' parking, flat, shade tree, fire pit, and a seasonal creek about 100' beyond. We camped the spot in May but when we returned in Aug it wasnt the same site. Campers built 4 more fire rings, tried and failed to chop limbs off the tree and craved all over it, killed most of the grasses and shrubs over 200'x200' area around the original fire pit. The rangers moved boulders into the entrance and closed the site. I honestly thought a year or two it would be back to normal but the rains eroded the bare dirt and changed the terraform, it looked like a construction site.
I thought I understood the concept of human pressure but I woefully underestimated the effects. The last time we visited was 9 years after closing and little clumps of grasses were just starting to return on a couple of little hills. My take away is that the farther camping is away from civilization or rangers the more people are destructive. So when the parks say it is closed for recovery or for animal habitat I'm good with it. Yes, I'm not above getting pissed with the inconvenience but I just have to remember that murder of nature I personally witnessed to take the wind out of my sails.

If there was an upshot to this video, your point would be clearly the most valid.
Almost no one wants to be told that they were born too late to enjoy the good times.
Too many people, mess everything up, every time.
The fact of the matter is, there are too many people, the old days are never coming back, and yes it's just going to get worse.
The thing is, we could have held out much longer, if we were better people as a whole.

WOW , Thank you, no it was not a unpopular comment , but the truth about people and no laws, I was a ranger for over a decade. I experienced alot people starting over, like their forfathers did. We talk about immigration at our borders, But I see immigration inside the usa Because of different reasons people are moving around more sense W W 2. Like all the homeless around our whole country as well ! But I agree with morpher, as a ranger I have seen major distruction of federal and state land by people , it's a shame.

Watching this a second time. Thanks for the tip on that Google Lens app. Good info about not whistling in bear country. Most folks don't know that. Had to laugh about the Lucy and Desi movie. I haven't watched that for years but it was hilarious. Between those very big rocks and jars of food, Desi was fit to be tied when they got stuck on that mountain road. And that road brought back memories of traveling through the mountains when I was a kid and we were often on dirt roads, which today are paved and four lanes! That was nice of you to give the update on the Alp generator! That spoke well of the company for sure. And great info on the cables for StarLink! Who would have thought! I'll make sure I tell my friends up the North Fork about that. That was a beautiful area for sure and yes June was still very chilly. I had to build a fire most mornings that month. I've had to give up on going out anywhere like that anymore, but I would imagine many of the places my husband and I use to hike around in are most likely no longer accessable. Sorry Linda to hear about that broken toe. Been there😥

Hi again!, We got the book that you recommended a while back--"Grace on the Open Road". We read one devotional for each day that we are camping And I make notes in the margins as to what we experienced that day. The blessing is that the devotional of the day is usually very appropriate for our experiences of the day!
Recently I bought the other book that you recommended, Woodcraft by Nessmut. I love reading that book because of the archaic language that he uses. The old-fashioned "prose" is so fun to read! Of course that is probably because I grew up on the King James Version of the Bible and still read it mostly.

Keep in mind that I live in NC. I did mention in the email that these sites being closed does not give a good "look" for in-state and out-of-state tourism.
