As a US Marine and working with a lot of ROK Marines as infantry, the ROKS are tough as nails and I LOVED working with them! The ROK commandant was also so cool to meet.
I was in Korea in 1991-92 and you are correct the ROK soldiers I met had very strenuous training, I once saw them in Freezing temperatures working out in freezing water, I wasn’t sure at the time what type of soldiers these men were but they were very tough. I also loved the Korean Troops and their commitment but the surprising thing was the older generation of people who were living through the Korean War would always thank me, Such respectful people in Korea! I served for 23 years and retired honorably and I have never been to another country that I loved more than Korea.
Did some Mountain Warfare cross training with ROK Marines back in 1995. Those guys had the respect of us Marines I can tell you. Dudes rappelling from a simulated helo skid 150 feet in the air just swan diving. Was one of the most memorable training experiences I had.
I remember The Crucible. That was supposed to be the toughest two and half days of boot camp. Then, if you've signed up for infantry, you find out the Crucible was basically a 2-day field op. Wait till you go and do field training with an active infantry unit and haven't worn dry cammies for two weeks straight.
You hit the nil on the head. My poor innocent boot soul didn't know how easy I had it then bam PB ops, ITX, and the MCREE all showed me life could be so much worse. Lets not forget jungle warfare training where the infantry gods thought it'd be fun to rain every single day without end. Ahh good times haha.
South Korean soldiers and Special Forces are trained by American troops and Special Forces. Like Korean UDT Seals are trained by America's Navy SEALs so South Korean training is a lot similar to America's training.
my younger brother is at officer candidate school for the navy 🥹 it’s been a few weeks. i’m proud of him and he’s been in touch a bit so i know he’s doing okay but i can’t help but worry.
That's cute. We got one 24 second phone call after two months. Drill Sergeant grabbed the phone from one kid, and cussed out his mother for raising such a F@¢k Up! I didn't have anyone to call, so it was amusing to watch.
These are interesting videos. They are not comparing the same training. The first video is the United States Military Academy at West Point. It’s a very prestigious four year university that prepares future Army officers. The other videos are basic training and advanced training for enlisted recruits.
my sister was in the navy for 8 years. The before and after was so different. She showed me pictures and video of her days there. It's hard to swallow since she's my little sister but I am so proud of her. She's been out for a while now I think almost 8 years. Both deployments she was on a destroyer.
I believe the yelling and insults are intended to force you to learn how to cope with stressful situations. In the battlefield, there's going to be firefights, shouting, loud noises, chaos, and you have to be able to keep your head and follow orders regardless of whatever distractions are happening.
As a Marine all of that was meant to break a man as an individual and turn them all into 1 fighting unit with the same spirit. No Marine should ever be left behind. No matter the race every Marine is green lol.
Not to mention they're all mostly 18 year olds so it'd be like herding cats with trying to get them to sit still and listen. Typically yelling is the best means.
My husband is Korean and served his Korean military time, then when we moved to the US he joined the Air Force. He has said again and again and again just how difficult the Air Force is in comparison, and the Air Force is hard, but it isn't even the hardest. I think the people who join and survive have to be incredibly strong mentally.
I'm pretty sure the point of all the yelling and treating the cadets the way they do, is because the military wants to break down recruits mentally so that they can build them up the way they want them.
Partially yes but also to get them acclimatized to the constant yelling itself, since when things go kinetic during a deployment shit gets really loud really quick and yelling is really the only viable way to communicate and be heard over everything from your own rifle fire to a 249 burning through belts 3ft next to you to ordnance being impacting a couple 100ft away, its not exactly a quiet endeavor by any means.

First you better dump all expectations immediately. Your comment alone shows an immaturity that'll be sorely singled out. Second, start physical training at an Olympic level right away. 8-10 mile runs, push ups and sit ups until full muscle failure, then finish the run. EVERY morning. Learn to scour all the training manuals alone, and then NEVER tell a drill anything they didn't ask for! Good Luck.

Having built the anti-air emplacement at kimpo Airport in the 80s and a few tours at camp Casey, in daegu city I guess we are doing a good job since just like here in the US, most people there have no clue
They've lived with it their entire lives. Most people just become numb to it and believe, "Yeah right! It will never happen! It's just a bluff" and so far history has mostly proven them to be correct. We'll see if that ever changes but I don't really blame Koreans from being numb to all the noise.
@@SGT_Fon I get your point but obviously the two situations are quite different. Israel and Hamas have had fairly large scale physical altercations for quite a long time so something like this happening isn't as surprising.
