    You make it look so easy. I'd love to flip broken ones from ebay but they cost a fortune.

      Thanks bud, to be honest the ebay ones aren't worth the risk. I don't think I've ever brought one from ebay that I managed to fix because most of them are a scam 😕

      @@jstro-hobbytech They can want. I've seen things on ebay that have been listed and relisted for years at crazy high prices. Hoping for that one mug to buy it.

      I've try to try to flip one if it comes my way but I've decided to start coding microcontrollers to build gadgets for fun. I might as well get something out of my programming degree I've never used. Being retired at 42 leaves me with too much time on my hands. As I learn to solder better, I'll learn circuit logic and how to code them circuits starting with an arduino then move on to more general purposes microcontrollers that I can buy in bulk and build the controllers from scratch.

    Awesome video as always. I have a switch that doesn't turn on. Plugged in with 12v power delivery and is only drawing 0.1-0.2 amps. If I press the power button while plugged in it starts drawing around 0.8 amps. I checked all the caps around M92T36 and BQ24193 with no shorts. P13USB cap is also not shorted by M92T36. Waiting on supplies before I take it all apart and will check P13USB, but have you ever heard of this behavior before? Thanks!

    I have to ask a very important question: when you run the soldering iron over the UBS C pads, how do you avoid everything blobbing up? When I try that, it forms major solder bridges. Sad face. I always use plenty of flux, though my soldering iron is awful. Maybe you'll have some tips? ☺️ Ed

      Hey mate, to be honest I think it's mainly in the technique but all I can really say for that is practice makes perfect. Maybe try buying a TS100, they're cheap and very good reliable irons:)

    Just curious if you know of any surefire way to troubleshoot an M92T36 that doesn't have any obvious faults.
    Just got a board in last night and it was very bizarre-- it would charge over normal USB 5v, but when I plugged in the 15v Switch charger nothing. Port looked perfect condition, plus there were no shorted caps anywhere around the power chip. Knowing that the M92T36 is the piece that handles power negotiation, I swapped it anyways and it solved the problem, but for a good minute it was a real head scratcher. If you have any additional insight into this it would be very appreciated!
    Thanks for all the great vids, keep it up, you inspire me!

      Hey mate. If you have no obvious shorts the only way to know for sure would be to check diode readings on each pad of the chip. Jason's Electronics Repair on TH-cam has mapped out all the known good diode readings for M92T36 and can provide a file for you to be able to run the checks you need.
      I do have a switch which belongs to my stepson which has the same same you do. I may find the time to sort thay put using diode readings as an example at some point soon just to get the information out there:)
      Thanks very much

    Could my M92T36 chip also be culprit if it draws 0.02 amps. I've tried different batteries and charge port has no damage can't find any shorts on board around p13usb and bq24193, as well as M92T36

    • @TheCod3r
      @TheCod3r  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      0.02amps could either be m92 or bq24193 even if it doesn't show any signs of shorts. Do you get 15v or 5v?

      @@TheCod3r I get 5v at 0.02 amps with a usb cable connected to the power jive. I actually just got new bq chips in today gonna try changing it and see if that's the culprit since it's quicker to change
