Well in gamer town we call that a "tilt". You lose few matches and get angry.
Because you got angry you get impatient, also you start trying too hard.
Because of that you start playing poorly and losing even more which leads to eveeeen more anger.
It's hard to break loop. Its best to take a break and come back with fresh mind (easier said than done :P)

    • @Kishandreth
      @Kishandreth 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

I can promise you it happened at least once in human history. Battles were usually fought because both sides thought they could win. If not one side would retreat and stay away from the enemy until they thought they could win. Any commander looking over his troops and finds out his entire squad of elite warriors spent the night puking from both ends would be wise to delay a day or two. In a siege scenario, the leader can continue to wait before assaulting a town or castle. Half the army has food poisoning? Okay, let's stay put for a week and recover before assaulting the walls.

I'm happy you posted this, it often feels like everyone else around you are perfect beings incapable of making mistakes, and you yourself are just bound to be a failure or a "fraud".
In reality however, everyone makes mistakes, and some people will do their absolute best at hiding theirs, which just gives you an unrealistic view of the world.
It took me a few years to learn this lesson, but mistakes, misconceptions, failure and being wrong is just a normal part of learning. By definition, you cannot learn something you already know, you can only learn about stuff you are wrong about or unaware of; this is why you are bound to make mistakes and trip up in life, it's 100% unavoidable.
If you're willing to correct your mistakes, accept failing and be ok with the idea that sometimes, you're just wrong - then you'll be more at peace with yourself *and* you'll be more able to learn than most people around you.

It’s something you don’t see from many on this site, a lot of people want to pretend that their mistakes don’t exist and that their just naturally gifted, but nature does not grant us these gifts, sure some have an easier start than others but I have more respect to a warrior who has picked up the sword, bow, or whatever other weapon, started off terrible without the nack for it and grown great over uncountable hours of practice, than someone who just picks it up in a day for it is the warrior in defeat that learns more, and the greater warrior with more victories ahead, I know how frustrated it can be I myself have dyspraxia and good coordination has not came naturally to me like others, I’ve had to earn it though my martial arts and routine exercise, to the point that now I have experienced victory, on more than one occasions when it came to HEMA when I got into it, I remember that constant practice allowed me to come on top out of people who were good but were so good that they felt that daily practice wasn’t necessary, I had them in several matches of grappling and over time I became speedy with a one handed swords which allowed me to deliver cuts faster than what they could keep up with, but all that came with time and painful practice, practicing sword cuts against a tyre daily to increase my speed stamina aggression and power, of course Now though in 2020 I can’t go to my club to spar not for a while, so I haven’t had really had the motivation to practice with my swords although I was practicing unarmed boxing strikes against the tyre but it’s not ideal as I have no time to train in the evenings because of work and training in the morning wakes people up, so I’m Saving up for a punching bag I can set up away from the houses, (I live in the country so I could take it out to a random field and go to town on it) but to make up for this I’ve been running, lifting weights and keeping fit every 4 days early morning, but anyways I’m getting ahead of myself my point being, we all have these off days, I have them in HEMA, my archery and shooting, but they are great lessons, days you can learn more from so long as you never get discouraged,

The key is to know when you are not practicing effectively any more... 50 shots or 100 shots fired terribly will TEACH you how to make mistakes, and they will revisit you at the worst possible moment ( stress, whether in competition or real-world use). 10 perfect shots reinforces good habits and keeps the muscle-memory that you want. If your practice goes to hell or never starts well, you stop. take a breather. walk around. figure out what's throwing off your mental/ physical game. If you can fix it ( clothing too tight, wrong position, mechanical issues) fix it and come back. If it's mental, get out of your own head. Breathe. relax. and SLOW DOWN. Rushing a practice is worse than not practicing at all. If all mechanical possibilities can be excluded, it's you.
Visualize sight picture. Breathe. Squeeze. Follow-through. Reset. Only the shot you're firing NOW is important. Not the next one, Not the last one. Just this one. Make it perfect.

Had a terrible case of couldn't hit shit that day. Couldn't hit a 2L soda bottle at 100y. Had to close in to 50y to get hits, and even then it was after 5-10 shots.

i'm a perfectionist. i'm also suffering from depression and anxiety, this is a bad combo. whenever i want to do something, i want to be perfect at it, and when i'm not, i criticize myself way to harshly, which makes me not wanna try out new things. i can get caught in a downward spiral to misery like that often.
now with therapy, i'm learning that it's ok to not be perfect immediately (or at all) at everything you do. it's ok to make mistakes. it's ok to fail.
i know this concept, but i am struggling to implement it into my life, which is also okay. i'm not gonna beat my perfectionism and self criticism in a few months.
i can really relate to this video. and skall, i appreciate you for uploading this and being honest. it's a nice message to the people. a lot of us get caught in societies definition of how a human should look and behave like. people who portray themselves in the most perfect (but simply unrealistic) way possible like instagram models and youtube bodybuilders are more harmful to humans than people realize.

In my church we always say: strife for excellence, not perfection. If you do every single thing in your life without any flaws/mistakes/failures ever, and you are like that everytime and nothing can be better than you and your deeds, thats perfection. Nobody can reach perfection for we are humans who are flawed. Excellence is doing the best you can, giving your all and doing a good job. That is something worth reaching for and I fully believe that you can do it. And remember, you are worth for who you are, not for what you do. Your natural value is unchangebly chained to you, it's your human right, your birth right. Should you also be usefull to society? Yes. But that doesnt determine your value as a human. .

There have been times when I gained a few pounds but that was when I was eating like 5000 calories a day, which probably isn't healthy (and sure as shit isn't financially viable for me) and as soon as I stop eating double my daily recommended calories I lose it. Plus I'll probably die sooner as animals with fast metabolisms tend to have shorter life spans. In situations like that the biggest mistake is to keep trying. Getting frustrated from errors leads to more errors in turn and makes one frustrated even more and this is like a rolling snowball. The treatment is too give up for a while, calm down, analyse what you did wrong and then try again with a cold heart. Basically, what you did.

Awesome video! Been in that rut a few times! A good reminder of the realities of practicing an art - it requires practice! I moved away from my school 2 years ago and was limited to practicing in isolation. I could feel the rust slowly accumulate, month-to-month. I made good gains on my fitness and learned and practiced new techniques to offset the rust and managed to increase my overall performance at VHG last year, from the previous, but it was more frustrating to see my skill fading in one area than fulfilling to see it increase in the others. After a couple months of COVID set-backs on top of the rust, I started taking Zoom classes to help tune-up and correct the little losses and now I’m gaining in all areas again, which gives me hope! This video gives me hope, too - thanks for being vulnerable, Skall! Good to see you overcoming the challenges of isolation and like everything else you’ve overcome to get here, you’ll overcome your current challenges too! 👍🏻⚔️💪

:( Yeah, and it's disheartening how quickly and easily the frustration of it devastates our further attempts of improving (at the time, I mean) and makes that particular practice session all the more upsetting. Easy to come away feeling like we should give up altogether, especially when we're in a long-term depressed slump generally. Hard not to give up, altogether. Sometimes it feels easier emotionally to give up completely than to put it down for a while and come back to it again later on, especially when struggling with depression in general (even though they teach and encourage that we keep doing things, that that engagement helps fight the depression itself too). It quickly can feel like the entire deck is stacked against us. Having people who encourage and support us goes a LONG way when struggling in the long-term with anything, so I thank you for your comment and wish you all the best Deorman. The way you handle yourself as a person is inspiring. I appreciate that you don’t resolve being hard on yourself with overconfidence or pride. Your humility in your skill and greatness is what makes you a youtuber I constantly want to watch. Ps. You don’t look so bad, you look like like a badass down to earth sword guy.

I have had many of those days where nothing goes right - the days that make you question whether you should even be doing whatever it is that you do anymore. Persisting through the failures, in spite of the failures, is the key to success.

Thanks skal i needed this today! Sometimes failing can make you feel like your the only person that does it, but to see someone like yourself( i mean your a competitive swordsman like!) have a bad day in what they are really good at..sounds dick-ish, but it really made me laugh a few times! But then next day?? That was inspiring! Reminds me you can fuck up monday, and fully nail it on tuesday if your always ready to learn, practice, and are not willing to give up. Oh and dude i dont want to upset ya, but your not THAT big dude, you'll lose that shit in no time my guy! Its difficult i know( spent all my teen years teetering on obese) you know how to sort it out, so im not gonna tell you how you need to do it, but i think every fan here is wishing you well in your endevours both personal and professional, and remember, with the right mindset, hard work, and a willingness to TRY even in face of potential failure, you can go from bottom of the barrel, to top of the world! Thanks again skal!😁

I struggle with Bipolar. I definatly understand days like this. Self-critique alows us to see our mistakes and improve. Self-doubt only fills us with frustration. Thank you for your videos. There's much more in these videos than "sword guy cuts stuff". Failure can be an amazing, tho harsh, teacher. Thank you for reminding me of that.

Damned. watching a master swordsman lose his cutting edge makes me feel not so bad about being such a massive failure with sword play. Seeing your vids, your failures, but knowing you're actually practically a master at this, actually gives me lots of hope of improving myself over time. It just takes a lot of work, which is something most professionals don't go into so much, so they just kinda look like they are "born perfect" or whatever.
Thank you for uploading this. You're probably helping encourage a lot of people to keep working to improve themselves.

Failure is absolutely the only pathway to success and satisfaction. I end up enjoying failing (in retrospect only, of course!) because the victory at the end of the following day feels all the more sweet and tastes all the more delicious. Also, I wish I could see more blooper reels like this on these sorts of channels because it's when I feel I learn most about the art. You rock, man!
