@@reginaldscot165 I’ve never had that problem with muc off lube from years of using it, but, I would use something softer like plastic so not to scratch the bike. If I’m riding regularly I tend to clean the chain regularly with degreaser and relube.
@@reginaldscot165 I’ve seen varnish and sticky molasses like residue using other wet lubes as well. Seems to not be brand centric. Always seems to be plant based. Most of us would use a stronger solvent to get it off. Sometimes using a penetrating oil or brushing on petrol or sometimes even having to bath affected parts in petrol are your only options. But after dealing with this for too much of my life since all this plant-based stuff hit the market, I only ever use wet lube when riding in rain as a quick top-up in between regular maintenance on my own bikes, and then I only use more ‘traditional’ lubes if I can help it. But before cleaning the bike, I’ll hit the drivetrain with a penetrating oil. Normally I’ll use a wax or dry lube. I’d like to go green, but like you said, the bike specific degreasers don’t work.
the plant based lube that the last commenter does sound correct. Working with rental generators and whatnot, my company has trouble with using biodiesel. They say that it creates all sorts of problems, I personally haven’t come across a setup using biodiesel, but coworkers from different states are saying the same thing and are true first hand experiences. That comment does fall in line with what I have personally been hearing. Couldn’t one just dip a chain in wax and while it’s still hot, wipe off the excess? Same thing with another dry lube? I could care less either way, I plan on getting dirty anyway so a good oil that I trust will do the trick for me.
It took me a long time to learn that lube on the outside of your chain is bad. Any lube not wiped off the outside after applying will build up residue and attract dirt. I have learned the lube is for the pins and rollers on the inside between the links. The outside should be wiped off with a microfiber cloth after applying. It might seem like more lube = more speed, less friction, and corrosion but it doesn’t work that way.
@@reginaldscot165 Some ideas: Plastic tyre lever Credit card Stiff bristled brush Fingernail Basically _anything_ softer than your predominantly steel and aluminium drivetrain. I know you're probably not damaging anything with your screwdriver but to me it's like using a metal spatula on a non-stick pan.
I've been using Muc Off C3 Dry Lube for a few years, and never encountered the syrupy texture seen in the video. At most, I see it blacken my drive train if I ignore cleaning it. It all washes away with the WD40 foaming bike cleaner, or if I submerge it in a degreaser + water mixture. It does seem to blacken quicker in hot & humid environments.
I have used both muc off ceramic dry and wet lubes without a problem. I only stopped using on TCR as I now wax. Still use it on my other bikes, though.
Been using it for a few years both the dry and wet stuff. It doesn't get anywhere near that bad for me, but I do regularly clean my chain and sprockets etc with a chain cleaner and degreaser. And also every so often remove the chain and soak in white spirit for half an hour or so while I clean the rest of the bike. Plus I live in a much wetter environment. Maybe that helps more than the rest 🤷🏼♂️ After reading comments on here I do suffer the chain getting very dirty very quickly though. Hence why I clean it after a few rides Will check out that Morgan blue stuff
I always love your content bruv ✊🏾. I’ve been using Muc Off products for over 10 years now and I’ve never had a problem so either I’m really lucky or people aren’t using it properly 🤷🏾♂️
Or it could be some local factors? Because a few people have reported the same thing from other places? So perhaps it’s heat and damp that effects how your lube will go? 🙂
@@paulmorrison30 That varnish like substance seems to be made by high heat. So my guess is it would be more a problem for road cyclists and not an issue for mountain or gravel biking.
Hi Reg… yes, I can also confirm this issue with the MUC-Off Wet (only wet type) lube. It happens with both types, the standard wet and ceramic wet lube. BUT…it only happened to me in the hot and damp countries I was riding in! We talk about temperatures beyond 35C and HIGH humidity till now…not happened in Central Europe at all. Additional problem is that the corrosion protection rate of the chain is reduced too what specifically can cause problems with light weight „hollow pin“ type chains. The Borneo/Asian tropic climate is a killer for almost all gear parts and need much more attention on maintenance. Cheers Pablo
It’s really strange, you should specify which specific muc off lube is this. I’ve been using muc off lubes for three years (mainly c3 dry, but also c3 wet and the normal dry lube) and this never happened to me …
Then perhaps people where my shop is are using it in combination with some other chemicals? Or it’s got something to do with our local weather? But it’s definitely Muc-Off because I always ask. 🤭 Thank you for your input and experience on this subject. 👍🏻
I think it has something to do with the frequency that people ride their bikes. A more frequently used bike won't have a chance for the bearing grease and lube to solidify. Brands like Muc-off who like to use organic oils in their lubes are more prone to problems with none-use (like over an icy winter). Synthetic lubes are usually more forgiving to longer periods of none-use and wider(colder) temperatures.
@@reginaldscot165 if there is doubt that it is muc off, or a combination of chemicals causing this (you are relying on your shop being honest), then I feel your title is misleading... If you carried out the experiment yourself it would have validity. Interesting video all the same, but I, like other commenters have used muc off with no issues at all.
I was always good at lubing my chain...I always used Muc Off Dry Lube. My chain kinked on a ride and it ruined my ride completely. I have since changed to a wax-based lube (Finish Line Ceramic) and I have ZERO drivetrain noise, and ZERO issues!!
Been using MucOff wet and dry lubes as appropriate on several mtbs over the last 5 years or so, I’ve just took off an Eagle GX cassette after 2500 miles in all kind of ropey conditions and it’s still got plenty of life in it. Rotated three chains during that time and one has JUST reached 0.5% wear. I’ve never seen either lube solidify like this…
Great. 👍🏻 But I still wouldn’t buy it and I’m getting a lot of reports from riders and bike shop workers they have seen the same problem. There are better lubes available. 🙂👍🏻
True. I used the yellow drylube for the last 2000km. Never had a drivetrain as clean as now. Chain is has no measurable wear and everything works mint. This season i am testing the green one. This one seems to be a little sticky but so far no gunk. I think if you apply it correctly and not too often and let it dry over night its a very impressive lubricant. The best one i had so far
City where I live (bike shops) Morgan Blue hardly available vs Muc-Off 's omni-presence. Finish Line gradually leaving us probably a geopolitical decision. Not to make a comparison here but rather a choice is NOT always available in many parts of the world despite YTubers flourishing presence. Online orders barred as well. But it's good to see your non-commercial appraisal.
If you clean it often it won't harden but trust me, lots of people don't do that. For the sake of some chain lube marks on my feet I'll always use something else!
I used Muc-off ceramic dry lube and thought it was pretty good in the begining. After riding in raina couple time once, I could hear the chain which I thought meant the lube washed off. I reapplied the lube and thought nothing of it. The next couple days it was warm and after maybe riding 20kms, I checked the chain and the cassette it looks exactly like what is shown in the first part of the video. Really sticky and has a yellowish tinge to it (both the cassette and the chain). I will never again use this lube again.
@@reginaldscot165 I doubted your video in the beginning, before I bought the lube. Looked a bit weird that a lube would react that way. But I can now see that was a mistake from my side. I went just bought myself tungsten Banana lube, hoping I have better luck with that.
@@reginaldscot165 I think in the dry it works well, as I didn't have an issue with it. It only started to react this way when it rained, and became a little humid. I live in Germany if that makes any difference.
that explains alot i have soaked my chain cassette and chainrings in degreaser and no matter how many times i do it theres always more brown gunk coming out i shouldve stopped using muc off a long time ago but i didnt even realize chain lube wasnt supposed to be like that, i just thought it was normal all this time lol
i've been using rock n roll Gold which is a wax emulsified lube. I just decided to switch to Muc Off C3 Wet lube because although the Rock n Roll Gold has been great it requires reapplication way too much. I'm going to give the Muc Off C3 Wet Lube a try and see if I like it.
Muc off ceramic wet - similar problem, if bike don't use more then 2 months. If using regular - no problem, relube after 150km. For conservation for a long period, it should be cleaned and lubed with basic oil
Don´t know what´s on them chains in the Vid, it sure as hell aint no Muc Off. I´ve been useing both the dry and wet lube for ages. Dry on my Roadbike and wet on my commuter, the only "issue" is that the wet lube gets the drivechain black really quick.
I guess all my customers are mistaken then? Because when I ask them what it is they say Muc-Off. But it might have something to do with local weather conditions or how long they leave it on the bikes before washing? Also if you check the comments other people are having similar issues. 🙂
the proof does not consider one most important information: If the chain is not thoroughly degreased before the application of MUC off dry loop (or any other wax-based fluid like the famous "squirt"), a chemical process will develop a reaction that joines wax and industrial grease to a sticky gum-like stuff that will definitely cause problems to your chain. So degrease: first act with terpentine (releases about 80 % of industrial oil and grease) and second act with acetone (cleans out the rest of industrial oil/grease) and dries the chain in a very short period. No "Good Luck" needed - it will work.
I used muc off wet lube on my Ebike. Worked fine but I degreased and reapplied every week. I've gone to squirt lube which I like better because the bike stays cleaner.
Same thing happened to me after using Wet Lube so i switched to Dry Lube and already the chain became all sticky even though I'm using my bike indoors for a while.
Totally agree. I live in a tropical climate, and used Muc-off during the dry season for some 3 months and 500km, and I find the same gummy residue. It's even difficult to wipe down after a ride. I destroyed one drivetrain because of this horrible product. Never again
Hi, thanks so much for this video. I bought an Orbea gain e-bike recently and changed from a spray lube to muc off ceramic. Straight away I started to find the drive train covered in a brown oily deposit after only 50k. I've been cleaning the chain regularly so hopefully it hasn't done any lasting damage. I've been in touch with muc off about it and sent photos but the best they could do was say it might be surface rust!!!! It's a shame because it does seem to be a good lube.
Squirt lube. Actually works and as a significant extra bonus, is PFAS free. Great if you live in a flat with pets/kids and no garage as most city dwellers. I'm trying Muc-Off sealant for the winter, as word is it lasts longer and can operate below freezing. But we'll see. At least it doesn't smell like beer sharts, as other sealants do.
The biggest bullshit sold to cyclists at a premium next to aero gains below 40kmh, is expensive 'racing' lube. Racing equipment is not designed for longevity, that's like Racing 101. One will be better off jetwashing their drivetrain and applying £5 wet lube after every ride year round. Everyone can test that for themselves, a new chain and cheap lube will cost the same as a bottle of race lube. In some cases you can get even a new cassette for the money paid for 'race' lube, at which point I'd rather replace my chain and cassette than use race lube on a worn drivetrain.
I’ve been using muc-off ceramic dry (and occasionally wet) lube for 3 years and nothing like this has ever happened. I generally just rinse with water and use a park tool drivetrain brush after every ride for mtb and every 2-3 rides with road bike.
I often get asked how often should I service my bike and my answer is, after every ride. A quick wash, wipe clean and inspection after every ride ,means never having to use aggressive cleaning products. I have never used degreaser on any of my bikes, drip on biodegradable chain lube, polished off before the next ride. Car shampoo is all that's necessary and wash and wax doesn't contaminate disc brakes.
Strange, I've been on C3 dry lube for at least 5 years and have never seen anything like what you are experiencing, I use either DA or KMC SL chains and get between 6000-7500 miles, I do remove my chain about every 250/300 miles (weekly, I'm retired) and wash it in very warm water + a squirt of washing up liquid (rinse in warm water NO soap), dry under the grill (note, only a few minutes) re-lube with 1 drop per roller, and leave over night prior to use. I use reusable missing links and change about every 12 washes. Downside to C3 Ceramic is rain, washes off in minutes, however it is a dry lube for dry conditions !!
The fact you wash the chain every 250 is the reason you won’t see this problem. But the lube is still not a good option and it’s probably reducing your performance significantly as it starts to get sticky between the rollers. 🙂
In my observation muc off wetlube works fine, if you clean your chain and drivetrain on a regular basis, every 1 or 2 weeks. But if it stays longer than a few weeks on the chain without being refreshed it behaves ecactly as shown in the video. My MTB's drivetrain, which I only use in bad weather or in winter, so it sits for weeks without being used, had this problem. The chainlinks were completly glued together. I had to throw it in the trash. I have never expirienced this with other lubes...
I have been using Mucoff dry lube (yellow bottle) for a while. It would gum up the chain a few days after a ride. The chain would become rigid with increased resistance. If have since moved on to another brand and no longer has such problem.
Been using muc off range for years, no issues, just completed. 4 day bike packing trip in uk with all types of westher, when i got home, drive train was mint/smooth no issues, if your having probs its down to poor prep, simple as that, ive tried many chain lubes, muc off dry lube is now my goto choice, to say muc off damages your bike is nonsense, what does damage your bike is using a metal object to scrape your chain ring/gear rings 😅
@@reginaldscot165 believe me or not, i know...as it was my bike & my chain, & i just completed a bike packing trip "Traws Eryri" route through Snowdonia range in Wales with mixed weather conditions through forests/mountains over 4 days, the drive train was mint with no issues whatsoever, only thing i had to do was re-apply more lube after we went through a ford and the drivetrain was completely submerged, I use Muc Off Dry Lube which I prefer over wet as it attracts little to zero dirt which is why my drive train stays clean, downside is it washes off pretty easily. furthermore... it was myself and my son & his drive train was also faultless/mint as i prepped both bikes before we left, including removing the chains / jockey wheels off derailur & then cleaning them all in citrus based mix using a cordless drill with a brush attachment, then waiting for chain to completely dry before refitting along with jockey wheels & then using muc off lube. Suggest you learn how to maintain your drive train before adding lube & crying that muc off is destroying your chain. To say Muc Off damages your chain is comical when 1000's of people use it daily with no issues. All that goo you see on your chain, is because you have not cleaned it properly before applying more so it layers up as seen in your vid. Seriously, look up how to clean drive trains correctly. I tried lots of methods/devices/liquids over the years, the best by far, citrus cleaner with a cordless drill with a soft brush attachment.
💯- couldn’t agree more. Muc off lube will cost you thousands in drive train wear if you allow it to! Adam at zerofrictioncycling independently demonstrated this. I think it is criminal that Mud-on’s cunning marketing means so many people use it, and due to it being difficult for an independent ‘punter’ to test lube efficacy, mud-on can get away with selling a snake oil product.
It’s so true, customers look so shocked when it tell them that it’s not good for their bike… they all say “I thought it was a good brand?” Or “but everyone is using it?”
I have a cycle from 2013 with original drivetrain, always used muc off dry lube on it, and people hardly believe me when I tell them that bike is 13000km old and never changed any drivetrain parts (except from the chain, but I only changed it cause I wanted a gold one :D still looks like new. So I guess there is some factor that makes Muc off be terrible for some pople, and awesome (for people like me)
@@AndrewTSq Anecdotal evidence. I would always choose a dataset over one single datum. You do not mention chain elongation ... it could be that all drivetrain components have elongated together.

@@reginaldscot165 Or whatever is in it is polymerising when subject to intense UV, so you may not be far wrong with using the term 'varnish'. Technically a varnish is resin in a drying oil. Of course it will not be that but it's clearly behaving in a very similar manner. We would need to know the ingredients and pick the brains of a chemist to really know what is happening.
I used Muc Off on my chain before winter storage. Come spring the chain was so stiff it would not bend. Yet, people watch channels like GCN and buy all products Muc Off

How do you know if if this bike is Muc Off if you don't know the exact bottle that was used on it? Are you assuming this? Would be helpful if you could share the exact Muc Off as they have different formulas.
I see and I know just by looking at it what lube it is. Then my conversation with the customer goes like this: Hi, are you using Muc off? Yes how did you know? Oh I can tell from the condition of the drivetrain. Muc off is the worst. But everyone is using it, I thought it was a good brand? Yes that’s marketing unfortunately, it’s actually the most damaging lubricant for your bike I know. Well I tried the dry lube but it was causing problems so I switched to wet lube… if this is no good what should I use? Well, I don’t sell it but Morgan Blue is good, their wet lubricants, so good in fact that the Pro teams sponsored by Muc off secretly use Morgan Blue. Lol 😂 (true story) Or my personal lubricant is good and only $5 for 150ml. Ok I will try that. 👍🏻 (A few weeks later) Hay that new lubricant you sold me is really good! Everything is so smooth and quiet and it’s really easy to clean! 😍 I’m glad you like it, been making it for 8 years. Yes that’s what everyone says. 😎
Then you probably wash your chain regularly, because if you didn’t you would see this issue. 🙂👍🏻 The professional mechanic on Cade Media channel said the same thing as I did about Muc-off. I’m not the only person complaining about this unfortunately. 😁

Hey, nice content! I’m from Brazil and using wet and dry ceramic. No problems in mountain bike here. Looks the same as other lubs, like Finish Line, that I like too.
It’s awful stuff. Dries up like glue & like you say really strong degreasers won’t touch it. I’ve thought this for a few years now, glad I found this upload.
Same problem here✋ have been using muc off's wet lube close to 1.5 years now and it seems to wear off my chain and freewheel much more quickly than the locally available (so called sub standard) lube!!
Its interesting about this mucoff wet lube... we use it all the time as alternative for freehub oil , shifter mech pivots and so on. One of the best alternative out there. We do not use it on the chain.
Mechanics the world over are reporting this issue, I’m definitely not the only one. However, if you take good care of your drivetrain, by washing regularly then you probably won’t encounter this problem. As bike mechanics we see it because we see the worst of the worst with regards to Bike care. Customers who never wash their bikes and just add more and more lube. In that situation Muc off is a nightmare! It hardens and then is impossible to remove. Our recommendation is just don’t use it, because even if you do clean your drivetrain regularly this stuff is still slowing you down. Other lubes are just better.
I just looked at several reviews, and muck off was in the top 5 of all the reviews and even hit #1. I watch this video and thank you, I would never put that CRAP on any of my bikes. I currently use Vaseline and wash & wipe daily. Sometimes chapstick and carry the little tube
Something strange has happened to my bike. I installed a new chain (hg-cn901) , cassette (cs-m8000) and chainring. I did it on January 2023 and on February I identified a broken chain roller, so I replaced it, but when I used the chain breaker tool, another roller broke. I tought it was a one thing issue, but last week I saw another broken roller and the same, when I cut the chain to replace the affected part, another roller broke, so 4 broken rollers in just 2 months and my last drivetrain I used for 16 months with no issues. I stared January using Muc Off Wet Lub, but then I switched to Muc Off Dry Lube. So I was thinking that my new chain came with some defects from the factory, but noe, watching this video I'm thinking that the lube is not protecting well my drivetrain. I have to add that I stared with Muc Off wet Lube with the previous drivetrain and nothing when wrong.
Dry lube is the worst, however it sounds like a problem with the chain, perhaps there is a issue with that chain? I remember a few years ago their was a bad batch of Ultegra chains that kept cracking. Perhaps contact the people you bought it from?
@@reginaldscot165 yeah, it's more likely a problem with the chain, and perhaps I did myself, I put in a very strong degreaser the first time I clean it (just that one time). The degreaser is not meant to be used on bicycles.
Been using Muc Off dry lube for 8 years. Never had an issue with it, my drivetrain is very easy to clean and cleans well. I ride muddy and dusty gravel in the UK all year round. I’d imagine the sort of people who need someone else to maintain their bike for them are exactly the kind of people who don’t know how to clean and apply lube properly too.

Had exactly the same on a bike i hadn't ridden for 6 months. Thought something was up with the freehub. Turns out it was dried lube and needed to be stripped down 😢
I'm not expert on this, but I ride Shimano 105 with Ultegra cassette. And using Muc-Off try weather lube and rubbing down with water and dishbrush after each ride, the lifespan of the cassette more than doubled compared to regular wet lube. I can't get all of the Muc-Off off, either, but durability wise it seems to work (albeit, possibly at higher roll resistance). Have yet to try Morgan Blue, but will do that next.
I use Morgan blue!, with a parktool chaincleaner every 500km, and I use Muc Off dry lube. Never had any problems with it. Chain always look like new. I live in Sweden, so maybe its something with the climate. Never seen anything remotly like what he shows in this video.
@AndrewTSq it looks like people who never washed their chain and just kept adding more lube. I know I've done that when I was younger but used the regular triflow lube so just was dirty oil. Also love in a Mediterranean climate so mainly dry weather.
Did you completely clean the chain and apply one littler drop at each roller, spin it around a few times, wipe the extra off and let it dry for 4-5 hours?
@@reginaldscot165 I did and you didn't mention any of it. There is way too much lube on the chain and I'm sure he or she didn't follow the instructions.
I've been using muc off dry lube this summer and i cant compare to others because i only started riding this last winter. I use warm water woth washing up liquid to clean it off every few weeks and my chain is shiny like new (although very worn and needs replacing as does my casette from previous owner) the lube is working well though and keeping me going until i can afford to replace
Thanks. I suspected as much. I heard the Muc Off dry lube has great lubricatiog quality. But as I have used wax based lubes and they work great. The problem that's not worth using it, is its hard to clean off!!! You need a special wax solvent. If your willing to put in the extra time to clean it, its OK. But for me its better to use a good oil base lube. Degreasing becomes easier.
Well if you want Big brand Morgan Blue (I mentioned this in the video) if not then traditional chain wax is a good way to go if you have the time. If not, oil, I will be letting people know more about this in a future video. 👍🏻
@Reginald Scot thank you. I've just read a review and the spray can Morgan blue is better value. Could we be seeing a return to using oil on our chains? !
Try clean it with kerosene (lamp oil). I've been using it to clean chain on my motorcycle! Motorcycle chain lubes are known for being gooey/sticky. Kerosine just melts it all away! Afther the goo is gone, just use regular water base degreaser to finish the job!
I started using Muc Off products on the back of Team Sky a few years ago. I thought to myself that if it’s good enough for Team Sky, then it’s good enough for me.
I’ve had this on mine after using both of those muc off lubes. Although it usually hardens to a black cement and the only way to clean it off is with a small screwdriver like you are doing here. Lubes your chain but leaves utter filth on your drivetrain and attracts a lot of dirt too.
man ngl i never seen that syrup like texture form and been on muc off for years. maybe you dont clean your bike? seems like a hit job you dont even know the exact lube
If you pay attention to the video you will hear that it’s not my bike. This bike belongs to a customer of mine and it’s not the first bike that uses this lube that has had this problem. It is definitely as a result of not washing the bike, but other factors are involved and other lubes even if you don’t wash them never end up like muck off.
@@reginaldscot165 yea i know i heard that part, still has nothing to do with muc off lube like you represented but okay you even said its from not cleaning, where did muc off touch you?
This is a problem with plant based chain lubes in general nut just Muc-Off. If these lubes get really gummed (your stage 3)you wont even get it off with naphtha or turpentine substitute. For environmental concerns I think its a good idea to use plant based bio degradable chain lubes. But I didnt found one yet that doesnt gummed up after a while. Many comments here say they dont have that problem. From my experience these kind of lubes need at least 4 weeks on the chain to get resinous. So maybe its because these people clean their chain more often.
Muc Off C3 Dry Ceramic is the best lube I have ever used and you have to believe me, I used a lot of different brands and types. Drivetrain is quiet and super easy to clean. After each ride I clean casette with dry brush and chain with dry towel. It takes me about 1 minute. After year of riding ( without washing bike because of dry weather), casette changed colour to gray. Nothing more, no residue. I cleaned it with soapy water in 5 minutes. No degreaser needed. As I wrote, I used Dry version and rode in dry conditions. Be aware that I used C3 Dry, not "standard" Dry lube which is... awful.
I agree on the ceramic lube. However I clean my bike after every ride and make sure all excess lubes are wiped off! I ride 6 days a week so that's 6 cleanings though. I'll also degrease the chain once a week and apply fresh lube link by link with only one drop, spin leave over night and wipe clean next day.
well you do clean it very often compared to the majority of people out there. In these circumstances it may well be a decent product. But the average Joe just doesn't do this, so this is the problem with muc off. It's designed to work decent IF you clean it often. Which they don't say, like they don't say it will turn to asphalt if you forget about it.
I'm using oldschool Ballistol Universal Oil. 100% Bio degradable and non toxic. Still good for me. Muc Off knows how to make a cool Brand with a nice Design.
I wonder what’s the cause? I’ve used the muc off dry lube and never had a problem with it. I’ve used a lot of lubes over the years too and found muc off to be one of the best in terms of performance, keeping chain clean and smooth. I wonder if they’re washing the chains properly? I do know people just re-apply lube over and over without a chain clean first. Then of course shit is gonna build up. Interesting video, I’ve never had that problem or have any of my cycling buddies as far as I know. I will ask on the next run out. Always good to see the bad as well as the good with any product so thanks for pointing it out buddy 👌
Thanks, it’s all about how often you wash the bike, how hot it is, humidity and how much you apply. I’m told this is a problem with all plant Based lube? But whatever it’s quite a thick lube. 😁
Tried muc off c3 dry and rode 100km. Weather was too hot and dry that day. When i got home my chains and cassette was too black and i was like wtf?! I hate my drivetrain dirty. I changed to squirt and so far so good and very happy with it.
I switched to Squirt about a year ago and other than the louder chain, I'm happy with it. Esp since its supposed to be pfas free and I have pets that like to sit around the bike.
I'm glad I saw this video. I was about to order some Muc-Off from Amazon. I ordered Dumonde Tech instead. That gunk would totally screw up any bike chain. Not good.
Muc Off is fake. I used to lube my chain with regular car engine oil, and it lasted for about 150 km. Recently I decided to try wax lube, since everybody say wax is better. So I bought Muc Off - wax lube. I didn't read any description, I expected any "wax lube" is wax and water emulsion, and when water evaporates you are getting waxed chain. Turns out Muc Off is different, it's just lube, it stays liquid. So it's not better then oil based lubes. And it lasted for only 70 km for me. Switched to Silca wax emulsion. Works fine, at least now chain is dry.
Hold on I've never seen this I use muc off wet lube, it just turns black oily like any oil. I can wipe my chain now to gleaming silver with just a spray degreaser.
I have tried both dry and wet chain lube for my motorcycle in the past and had issues with rust building up. I first thought that I just didn't apply enough lube. But I notated a problem that the chain lube applied by the garage after a service didn't got the issue. I switched brands and don't have the problem anymore. Nobody should buy the Muc-Off chain lubes in my opinion. There are really bad.
@@reginaldscot165 it really shouldn't matter which chain type, the lube is advertised for x o z chains. I bought the wet and dry lube both seperatly and made sure to properly the chain before applying. Currently using the Putoline DX11 chain lube and do not encounter any issues at all. * Sorry for the late reaction.
PTFE based oil has similar properties, except it's when it gets cold, it gets stiff. Around freezing point, it becomes resistive to movement to the point of fouling shifts, as the chain binds going through the derailleur cage. Avoid it! Try and find good old fashioned *light machine oil* or *sewing machine oil* . (Getting hard to find, everything is super-duper wow scientific yada yada). Best to put a few drops into spoon or like, and then use a tooth pick to put a drop onto where the chain rollers meet the side links. Don't put *any* lubricant all over. It just attracts dirt, and holds it on the chain.
Dunno, I currently use Halfords all weather lube, which has Teflon in, no problems with it freezing. Also you need at least a slight coating of oil on the sides of the chain to avoid rust. Frankly, I've had good results just brushing any grit off, then running the chain through a rag soaked in motor oil, then running it through a dry rag to get excess off. The Halfords all weather seems a bit better waterproofing tho, runs smooth, & is cheap, so I use that at the moment. But generally I think this whole subject is made overcomplex & overexpensive, it's just a bike chain, not hard to keep working ok for minimum expense.
i bought the dry lube one because team sky used them, it was terrible. it doesn't last long and every little puddle or wet ride it washed away the lube instantly.
I have used the Muc off wet and dry lube and I could tell you that’s a reason why chain keep skipping and get dirty and ruined your stuff i’ve change my chain ring with my pedal and the « Cassette » in the back and it ruins a bike in lest than 8 month, after this video i will change for something better that will play with the stupid climate we have in New B…
I just bought the dry lube. I saw a lot of negative reviews of people saying that it washes off easy and doesn't last long on rides. However, you are showing that it stays on the chain. I'm confused... Don't we want the lube to stay on the chain? Obviously they didn't wipe the outside, but we want the lube to stay on the rollers right?
This is probably the wet lubricant. But unless you live in the Middle East or Death Valley i wouldn’t bother with dry lubricants. At only 10% lubrication they just don’t protect the chain.
Inaccurate Statement I've seen first hand scientific testing that muc off is 1 of 2 least wearing lubes available and that the amazing magic Gold lube is the most damaging to our drivetrains! One the best it's said was tested to be the worst for friction wear! Was actually incredible to see that stuff eat through a solid cylinder of alloy!
Well this is mostly the wet lube that does this and only if you use too much and leave it on too long. The dry lube is also bad but for different reasons, it doesn’t protect your chain, customers that use it will need to replace their chain more often. All dry lubes have the same problem. They are only 10% lubricant in the solution.
I've used muc off wet lune on my bike and it's horrible, like glue sticking to my cassette and chain, which also is hard to bend. Why are there so many vids advertising it, it's shit. Also saw a video of cade media who has 200k subs and he also addressed the problem. They should get a lawsuit for basically destroying their customers parts. And It's definitely their fault cause I put their wet lube on brand new drivetrain and never used any other lube on my bike
It’s amazing isn’t it! It truly shows the power of marketing that you can make an obviously bad product so popular… what I find most mind bending is the people who see how bad their bikes look after using it and think… “the next time I buy lube I’m buying this stuff again.” 🤷🏻♂️
I use their ceramic dry lube but clean the chain nearly about every 100km unless it's been muddy I'll clean the whole bike and chain after the ride (UK so that's pretty often). I'd say the ceramic works pretty well if you are maintaining your bike well. Their wet lube is super sticky - the only way to clean that off is remove the cassette and soak it in degreaser for a few hours. I'm not sure if this is a feature or not as I'd guess it protects the drivetrain from moisture pretty well at the expense of some additional resistance. Compared to finish line wet lube it was a lot cleaner overall. With finish line after a muddy ride I've got half the forest floor stuck to my chain.
To be honest I've never had this problem on any of my bikes, and I've got quite a few! And this is due to one simple fact, I am very diligent with cleaning my drive train, you my friend simply are not, this is so apparent! End of story, safe riding! 😄✌️
You might want to rewatch the video as I don’t think you paid attention. 😁 It’s not my bike! They belong to customers! And yes, if you clean regularly you will avoid seeing this. However this lubricant is still slowing you down as it’s way stickier than it needs to be. Their are better choices available. 🙂
@@reginaldscot165 To be honest I only use this lube if it's very wet and dirty, so speed isn't really my primary concern, stopping my chrain singing is! And if you ride with full fenders during these horrible winter conditions, you'll be amazed how much protection your drive train is afforded! The dry lube I really like, but if you're caught out in a good downpour, it will be washed off relatively quick! Although I really wouldn't recommend the dry lube when it's wet, it's terrible! 🤦🏻♂️ I do take what you're saying, if too much is applied or allowed to accumulate, stuff sticks to your drive chain like shit to a blanket! It has to be used sparingly, and also encourages regular cleaning. That's surely not a bad thing! So, just out of interest what would you recommend at a 'wet lube'?
I have been using muc off for 4 years, only Muc off lube. So far all fine.. what I see on your chain and sprockets seems too much… something is wrong..
Not mine, belongs to different customers. 🙂 Oh there is definitely something wrong, but this isn’t the first time I’ve seen it and I’m not the only bike mechanic complaining about it. 🫣
I use Muckoff wet without any issues. When the chain goes black, it cleans off easily, and oils up well. That looks like freshly applied oil which has been left in the direct hot sun for a few days, straight after oiling. It doesn't even have dirt or dust in it. Mucoff Tubeless sealent is rubbish. It clogs the valve after a couple of months. I had a 2.5mm slash, which could sustain 60PSI of pressure with Stans No more seals Standard, and then tried Mucoff, which sustained 65psi. I got sick of the clogging and tried Stans No more seals Race, which als sustains 65PSI, and doesn't clog the valve. I then got fed up and applied a tyre patch to the inside of the tyre.
I have been using wet and dry Muc-off for 6 years, once applied your meant to wipe of excess, i clean and relube every second ride and my XX1 Axs drive chain runs as smooth as butter and silent. The issues in your video are due to too much lube being used, not wiping of excess, leaving it way to long in time/miles before degreasing and relubing.
@@reginaldscot165 So what you should say is if you dont bother to look after your drivetrain and you use Muc Off this is a problem you will encounter not put a product down that does a cracking job of running the drivetrain like butter unless your a total cock and have no idea what your doing which funny enough describes you to a tee. What next, will you start to slate Fox for building shocks that require serving every 50 hours and when someone chooses not too and the shock goes to shit will you find fault with that too? You have no idea what your talking about or the skills in any field to back it up. Your a typical road bike bellend.
One of the worst lubes , it’s Squirt ( but it pushed by many bloggers that trying to proof that this is good one, even there is some association that kind of testing it and say it fastest, but my personal experience it just bad lube that not fast and cannot handle 3 hours of riding ) . Mac off dry lube much easier to clean on mtb then squirt and it not attract dust, one of the best for me in dusty conditions. I’ll never recommend to use it on road bike, only ceramic lube that super easy to clean with soap. I hear a lot on TH-cam that it’s hard to clean Muc off lubes, but it’s just not true.
@@reginaldscot165 yellow one, is not for road bike, I like it on MTB chain but it's hard to clean (but much easy then other lubes for mtb) and it not attract dust . Green one is supper bad for MBT because It attract dust and I hear sand noise on my chain, but on road it good it easy to clean and I don't need to use de-greaser , only soap. So I can keep my chain clean much easy. So I think each lube should be used properly, incorrect utilization cause such problems. For sure Muc off should explain well where to use it
Dear Reginald, how about the „Muc-Off Hydrodynamic Chain Lube“ (low friction - ultra durable)? Any experiences by customers or yourself? I got a sample by my „home mechanic“, who recommended it about 2 years ago very strongly. I tried it once but returned after two or three rides to the dry lube from dynamic (dutch brand). What keeps me from using the muc-off lube is that i was told to remove ANY lubricant before applying this product to the chain. And after doing so i should stick to it… of course, the muc-off has been the most expensive chain lube i bought ever (about 15 Euros).
I use that stuff and swear by it. Just my small opinion though. The other muc-off lubes i wont touch because of the stage3 i had on a Bianchi mountain bike.
Used the Hydrodynamic for a while until I got extremely tired of trying to get it off to reapply when the dive train gunked up. It's great on the first ride but in my experience in Ireland it very soon becomes a black mess. Right now I'll only use Squirt or Silca wax lubes or Fenwick's Professional wet lube, these are easy to remove and reapply and dont get dirty like the Muc Off ones did.
I’ve never had a problem with muc off wet or dry. Personally I wouldn’t scrape off whatever it is with a screwdriver.
Interesting. You would just leave it on?
@@reginaldscot165 I’ve never had that problem with muc off lube from years of using it, but, I would use something softer like plastic so not to scratch the bike. If I’m riding regularly I tend to clean the chain regularly with degreaser and relube.
@@reginaldscot165 if it is really hard use a penetrating oil
@@reginaldscot165
I’ve seen varnish and sticky molasses like residue using other wet lubes as well.
Very true 👍🏻
"Muc off damages your bike" *proceeds to scratch it with a screwdriver*
Suggest a better way. 😉 Also you will notice that my screwdriver doesn’t remove any of the paint. 😝
How would you remove that garbage otherwise?
oh i know... paint over it with more "MUC" (๑>ᴗ
@@reginaldscot165 Some ideas:
Plastic tyre lever
Credit card
Stiff bristled brush
Fingernail
Basically _anything_ softer than your predominantly steel and aluminium drivetrain.
It’s very hot and humid here. 🙂
I have used both muc off ceramic dry and wet lubes without a problem. I only stopped using on TCR as I now wax. Still use it on my other bikes, though.
Cool, you are obviously doing something right. 🙂👍🏻
Maybe that helps more than the rest 🤷🏼♂️
After reading comments on here I do suffer the chain getting very dirty very quickly though. Hence why I clean it after a few rides
Will check out that Morgan blue stuff
Yes it’s probably made worse by weather conditions. (Dry hot?)
@@reginaldscot165 Possibly but I live in the UK and it works for me.
@@paulmorrison30 That varnish like substance seems to be made by high heat. So my guess is it would be more a problem for road cyclists and not an issue for mountain or gravel biking.
I never had this kind of problem either. It totally looks different on my bike. No different then other wet lubes.
Thank you for your input and experience on this subject. 👍🏻
I think it has something to do with the frequency that people ride their bikes. A more frequently used bike won't have a chance for the bearing grease and lube to solidify. Brands like Muc-off who like to use organic oils in their lubes are more prone to problems with none-use (like over an icy winter). Synthetic lubes are usually more forgiving to longer periods of none-use and wider(colder) temperatures.
same fot me, i'm using muc-offfor 8 years now both the c3dry as the wet lube and never had any issues with it.
A good story with a happy ending. ❤️
It's simply because the Muppet isn't cleaning his drivetrain enough, it's really that simple! I too have been using dry and wet without issue! ✌️
Thank you, that’s useful information. 🙂👍🏻
I live in Germany if that makes any difference.

i have soaked my chain cassette and chainrings in degreaser and no matter how many times i do it theres always more brown gunk coming out
i shouldve stopped using muc off a long time ago but i didnt even realize chain lube wasnt supposed to be like that, i just thought it was normal all this time lol
Yes it’s an absolute nightmare to get rid of.
I use a wax emulsified lube, and will never go back to oil products on my chain.
Wax is a good choice 👍🏻
i've been using rock n roll Gold which is a wax emulsified lube. I just decided to switch to Muc Off C3 Wet lube because although the Rock n Roll Gold has been great it requires reapplication way too much. I'm going to give the Muc Off C3 Wet Lube a try and see if I like it.
Have you tried WD40 to soften it, never used it on this but has worked on other congealed solidified oils, worth a try.
Yes unfortunately this isn’t oil based lube, so WD has no impact. But it’s a good suggestion all the same. 👍🏻
Muc off ceramic wet - similar problem, if bike don't use more then 2 months. If using regular - no problem, relube after 150km. For conservation for a long period, it should be cleaned and lubed with basic oil
Good information 👍🏻
Do all of the above and… don’t use Muc off, for that perfect chain. 😁👍🏻
I used muc off wet lube on my Ebike. Worked fine but I degreased and reapplied every week. I've gone to squirt lube which I like better because the bike stays cleaner.
Both good things to do 👍🏻
Same problem here with Muc-Off wet lube ceramic c3 ,, its so bad , never gonna use the wet lube anymore, but the dry lube is very good
Thank you for the feedback. 🙂👍🏻
Same thing happened to me after using Wet Lube so i switched to Dry Lube and already the chain became all sticky even though I'm using my bike indoors for a while.
Yes it’s nasty stuff.
Totally agree. I live in a tropical climate, and used Muc-off during the dry season for some 3 months and 500km, and I find the same gummy residue. It's even difficult to wipe down after a ride. I destroyed one drivetrain because of this horrible product. Never again
Interesting, it must have something to do with humidity or damp?
I'm not sure a chain can "literally laugh" but points taken.
Yes figuratively would have been better
Hi, thanks so much for this video. I bought an Orbea gain e-bike recently and changed from a spray lube to muc off ceramic. Straight away I started to find the drive train covered in a brown oily deposit after only 50k. I've been cleaning the chain regularly so hopefully it hasn't done any lasting damage. I've been in touch with muc off about it and sent photos but the best they could do was say it might be surface rust!!!! It's a shame because it does seem to be a good lube.
Try Morgan blue 🙂
Squirt lube. Actually works and as a significant extra bonus, is PFAS free. Great if you live in a flat with pets/kids and no garage as most city dwellers. I'm trying Muc-Off sealant for the winter, as word is it lasts longer and can operate below freezing. But we'll see. At least it doesn't smell like beer sharts, as other sealants do.
That’s a good bonus, I can’t speak on the tyre sealant as I don’t use tubeless. But I hope it goes well for you. 🙂👍🏻
Ha ha yeah you are totally right! Some “race lube” is a joke on people dumb enough to buy it. 🤭
I use utterly butter,y.
I’ve been using muc-off ceramic dry (and occasionally wet) lube for 3 years and nothing like this has ever happened. I generally just rinse with water and use a park tool drivetrain brush after every ride for mtb and every 2-3 rides with road bike.
I’m guessing if you do leave it on too long it’s ok. But, most people do leave it too long.
@@reginaldscot165 exactly
I often get asked how often should I service my bike and my answer is, after every ride.
A quick wash, wipe clean and inspection after every ride ,means never having to use aggressive cleaning products.
I have never used degreaser on any of my bikes, drip on biodegradable chain lube, polished off before the next ride.
Car shampoo is all that's necessary and wash and wax doesn't contaminate disc brakes.
I think that might be a little often, unless each of your rides is 300km long. 🙂
@@reginaldscot165 yea, MUCH too often. He's certainly not a commuter. They would never let me clean my bike at work😂
Strange, I've been on C3 dry lube for at least 5 years and have never seen anything like what you are experiencing, I use either DA or KMC SL chains and get between 6000-7500 miles, I do remove my chain about every 250/300 miles (weekly, I'm retired) and wash it in very warm water + a squirt of washing up liquid (rinse in warm water NO soap), dry under the grill (note, only a few minutes) re-lube with 1 drop per roller, and leave over night prior to use.
Yes always clean it regularly 🙂👍🏻
Never had this issue with Muc-off dry lube !!!
Then you are probably cleaning your bike properly 🙂
I have been using Mucoff dry lube (yellow bottle) for a while. It would gum up the chain a few days after a ride. The chain would become rigid with increased resistance. If have since moved on to another brand and no longer has such problem.
This is the same problem my customers are having. 🙂👍🏻
I literally don’t believe you. 😁 There is literally no way your drivetrain would be “mint” after 4 days of cycling on any lube.

Yet, people watch channels like GCN and buy all products Muc Off
Yes. Don’t trust GCN…
I use muc off dry lube all year…I also clean chain regularly, yes regularly. Have no problems and would recommend.
It’s good you clean regularly. But that doesn’t makes it a product worth recommending in my experience.
Thx, how exactly do you clean your chain? Do you remove the chain? Leave the chain on the bike? etc? Which cleaning products too? Thx
@@runawaytrain9794
Use combo of vinegar and washing ip liquid. Leave on chain 5 mins. Reapply then use brush then remove using hose. Chain stays on bike. Effective and cheap. DRYthen apply Muc off to each roller. Best wishes
@@steveallen273 Nice. Thx, Steve. Talk about effective and cheap. BTW I've used regular motor oil on my bike chains forever with zero issues. IMHO, virtually the entire bike lube industry is a scam, and I've lost count how many damn bike lubes are on the market now. It's ridiculous. I keep it old school on this one. Thx again. Take care.
How do you know if if this bike is Muc Off if you don't know the exact bottle that was used on it? Are you assuming this? Would be helpful if you could share the exact Muc Off as they have different formulas.
I see and I know just by looking at it what lube it is. Then my conversation with the customer goes like this:
Hi, are you using Muc off?
(A few weeks later)
Hay that new lubricant you sold me is really good! Everything is so smooth and quiet and it’s really easy to clean! 😍
I’m glad you like it, been making it for 8 years. Yes that’s what everyone says. 😎
Never seeing crop like this :) Seriously I have been using Muc-Off Wet & Dry for long time never count any issues.
Then you probably wash your chain regularly, because if you didn’t you would see this issue. 🙂👍🏻
The professional mechanic on Cade Media channel said the same thing as I did about Muc-off. I’m not the only person complaining about this unfortunately. 😁

Sounds like fun 🤔
Use muc off dry lude in dry and wet lude in the wet
Noted 👍🏻
Hey, nice content!
I’m from Brazil and using wet and dry ceramic. No problems in mountain bike here. Looks the same as other lubs, like Finish Line, that I like too.
Thank you 🙏🏻
It’s awful stuff. Dries up like glue & like you say really strong degreasers won’t touch it. I’ve thought this for a few years now, glad I found this upload.
Yes some people don’t get this problem for some reason but I see it all the time.
Same problem here✋ have been using muc off's wet lube close to 1.5 years now and it seems to wear off my chain and freewheel much more quickly than the locally available (so called sub standard) lube!!
Interesting 🙂
Thanks ... I don't why but every bike shop in my area sells it.
Yes, many people think it’s good, but that’s the power of marketing.
Its interesting about this mucoff wet lube... we use it all the time as alternative for freehub oil , shifter mech pivots and so on. One of the best alternative out there.
We do not use it on the chain.
Well that’s good news and interesting information. 👍🏻🙂
I've been using Muc Off for years. I have never encountered this issue you mention here.
Thanks. That’s interesting. 🙂
That could be true… however recently I have been seeing other bike shops and mechanics coming forward and saying the same thing as me…
@@reginaldscot165 I used to work as a car mechanic when I was young, and you should only know how stupid some people are :D How about taping pictures of people over the dash.. and when you remove them, the oil-lamp is lit red.... "How could it be broken? it was not broken before"... or accidently putting oil in hte wrong hole in the engine (like the little hole at the cluch) and then saying they have only put oil where it should be :D
Try GUNK engine degreaser, its the only degreaser I use, I like a bike looking like its never left the showroom.
I use the main chemical that is in Gunk and it literally did nothing. But yes, normally it’s fantastic stuff. 🙂👍🏻
Had exactly the same on a bike i hadn't ridden for 6 months. Thought something was up with the freehub. Turns out it was dried lube and needed to be stripped down 😢
I’m glad I’m not crazy. 😅 Sorry, that sucks, hope it cleaned off ok?
I'm not expert on this, but I ride Shimano 105 with Ultegra cassette. And using Muc-Off try weather lube and rubbing down with water and dishbrush after each ride, the lifespan of the cassette more than doubled compared to regular wet lube. I can't get all of the Muc-Off off, either, but durability wise it seems to work (albeit, possibly at higher roll resistance). Have yet to try Morgan Blue, but will do that next.
Interesting. 👍🏻
Brilliant stuff, Reginald. Love your channel and very refreshing these days to hear someone not afraid to speak the truth. 🙏🙏
It is my curse and my blessings that I have never been afraid to speak on anything. 😅
With age I’m trying to temper this habit. 🤭
@@reginaldscot165 trust me, l appreciate it very much.
Long-term Muc Off lube user, but no longer (since about a year ago). Even my indoor bike is completely grunged up with Muc Off Wet Lube.
Yikes 😱
Did you completely clean the chain and apply one littler drop at each roller, spin it around a few times, wipe the extra off and let it dry for 4-5 hours?
Did you listen to the video? 🤔
The fact you wash it regularly is the reason you aren’t getting any problems. You should be commended on that. 🙂👍🏻
I agree, I use oil as well. I wash every 300km so it works fine for me. 🙂👍🏻
So what should we all be using?
That’s what I use… it laughs at it! 😂
Or Diesel oil
I started using Muc Off products on the back of Team Sky a few years ago. I thought to myself that if it’s good enough for Team Sky, then it’s good enough for me.
And that’s the main reason for Professional cycling… a powerful marketing tool. 🙂
I’ve had this on mine after using both of those muc off lubes. Although it usually hardens to a black cement and the only way to clean it off is with a small screwdriver like you are doing here. Lubes your chain but leaves utter filth on your drivetrain and attracts a lot of dirt too.
Annoying isn’t it. 😄
man ngl i never seen that syrup like texture form and been on muc off for years. maybe you dont clean your bike? seems like a hit job you dont even know the exact lube
Yes . I had the same exact problem too….
Yes I’m not the only person to see this unfortunately. 😢
Great information, thanks! 🙏🏻🙂
Be aware that I used C3 Dry, not "standard" Dry lube which is... awful.
Noted, interesting information, thank you. 👍🏻🙂
@@COYOTEEXILE degreasing once every week is too excessive. Your bearings are probably suffering right now
well you do clean it very often compared to the majority of people out there.
Agreed 👍🏻
May i ask what would you recommend as an alternative thanks
Morgan Blue.
Cool 🙂👍🏻
I switched to Squirt about a year ago and other than the louder chain, I'm happy with it. Esp since its supposed to be pfas free and I have pets that like to sit around the bike.
I'm glad I saw this video. I was about to order some Muc-Off from Amazon. I ordered Dumonde Tech instead. That gunk would totally screw up any bike chain. Not good.
I’m glad I helped!
That’s disappointing. 🫤
Hold on I've never seen this I use muc off wet lube, it just turns black oily like any oil. I can wipe my chain now to gleaming silver with just a spray degreaser.
Good, keep cleaning it and you won’t see this. But I also recommend changing your lubricant anyway. Muc is definitely not the best.
I use Motorex Oil for my Chain. Really great performance
Cool 😎
I have tried both dry and wet chain lube for my motorcycle in the past and had issues with rust building up. I first thought that I just didn't apply enough lube. But I notated a problem that the chain lube applied by the garage after a service didn't got the issue. I switched brands and don't have the problem anymore. Nobody should buy the Muc-Off chain lubes in my opinion. There are really bad.
Perhaps it’s not recommended for motorcycle also? Is it something you know other people use?
Excellent advice. 👍🏻
Tooth pick? I use surgical tools and a microscope, otherwise it just gets everywhere. Stop fooling yourself.
Mine started doing this. Think the bottle is a few years old at this point so age might have something to do with it
Maybe, and possibly local climate.
i bought the dry lube one because team sky used them, it was terrible. it doesn't last long and every little puddle or wet ride it washed away the lube instantly.
Yes that’s a problem with dry Lube, I plan to do another video on this.
Glad I could help and good luck with the new Lube! 👍🏻
Who did the testing and I’m talking from experience with customers and bikes. 🙂
weird. I've been using the Muc Off C3 dry lube for over a year with no issues. I am not an employee of MucOff.
It definitely depends on a number of factors. Weather conditions, how often you clean the bike and so on.
Is there any suggestion for the cycle chain which I should try??
Whatever is compatible with your group set. Shimano/shimano SRAM/SRAM. But I do like the high end BBB chains.
@@reginaldscot165 oops sorry! I meant cycle chain lube
wow... used muc off dry lube for more than 5 years, never had this problem so far....
@@reginaldscot165 ic ic, no wonder i broke my chain few times, speed ceramic is it better??

Morgan blue.
i think its just the wet lubes, the dry ones work differently
Yes, the dry ones don’t work at all. 😂
Maybe a scourer sponge would be effective for a final clean of the chainring.
It would shift it, but it would also remove the black paint. 🤭
A scientist with a screwdriver. Paid by the competition?
Scientist? Ask any experienced bike mechanic, they will tell you the same thing.
Never used it but not a first mechanic i hear saying this 👍
That’s true, I was surprised to find I’m not the only one saying this.
@@reginaldscot165 yup, apparently even ultrasonic cleaners can barely take that muc off…
Dumonde tech any good that’s what I use? Was going to try out muc off due to so many good reviews on Amazon but now I think I’ll pass
No idea about your lube, if it works and you are happy. 👍🏻
I do take what you're saying, if too much is applied or allowed to accumulate, stuff sticks to your drive chain like shit to a blanket!
Yes it could be due to the hot weather here. 🙂
Agreed! But… if you don’t wash or wipe other lubes off they don’t turn into plastic like Muc-off. 😁
Well it must depend on the type of Muc-off because I find it very hard to clean. 🙂
For sure Muc off should explain well where to use it
What about Muc Off chain cleaner?
It’s fine, but Morgan Blue is better. 😉
How about the scc chain lube? Is it good?
No idea 🤷🏻♂️

Thank you 🙏🏻 Agreed 👍🏻
I have a small bottle of MucOff lube in my garage. I've never used it and it looks like I'll NEVER use it after seeing this video 🤯
Probably for the best. 👍🏻
I don’t have any customers as far as I know who use that lubricant. So unfortunately I can’t comment. 🙂
Thank you for your comment. 👍🏻
