@@kazejonin I was thinking more along the lines of all the statues in probably all 50 states that have been torn down or desecrated along with the history books removed from almost every school district in the last 25 years. People have been trying to erase history as long as they been creating it, starting with the burning of the library of Alexandria 1000’s of years ago. Always bc one side finds it offensive. It should be, so that it’ll never be repeated
I had my almost-13-year-old daughter watch this episode with me. I’ve been doing my best to have open, raw, honest conversations with her about racism and the wrongdoings and injustices of likely many of our own ancestors for a few years now… VERY important in my eyes as her mother to make sure she grows up to be a knowledgeable, kind, respectful, honest adult who treats absolutely everyone equally.
Thank you for doing that! I am a black woman and I’ve always taught my daughter history in general! So much of it has been lost to softening the narrative which none of us should do! Also, if you want an interesting debate with your 13 year old, check out the life of Martin Luther, and the religious movements of the 14th century!
It's not just about race. It should be about everyone and everything. We should treat the man who's a janitor the Same as the president! No matter what race, looks, age, weight, income, etc. Everyone should be treated the exact same way. Same respect
We weren't taught anything but slavery and the civil rights movement in school. I always heard people say ," if black people want this or that they should build it themselves " . I always wondered why we didn't.. UNTIL I FOUND OUT WE DID. We built towns, cities, lucrative businesses but everytime They destroyed them. Over and Over again! 😢
I’m sad to say I’ve never heard of this before. As a black woman, I want to say thank you for covering stories like this on your channel with an open mind & actually caring about the things you cover ❤
Grateful to have had at least one teacher who cared enough to cover things like the Tulsa Race Massacre in my middle school. she was strict and i wasn’t her biggest fan but she was a great history teacher and im so glad she never second guessed to teach us about these things that must be retold. thank you Ms Steen (WRMS)
The Red Summer of 1919 is one of the devastating periods of American History. Especially when Black vets coming back from WWI had to defend themselves against their own countrymen.
I worked in a nursing home and the greatest gift was the stories before the clients would depart. One man told me he was in the war, and his outfits had not came in and he had to wear the ones made for the black men in the army, our own government gave the men of color lower grade clothing to fight for our country and treated them differently, I listened respectfully and felt he was dealing with karma in his last days, my job was to listen, love and care for him. Some stories are hard to keep a soft face to, I've wished people would write stories more about them.
As a native Tulsan, we also were not taught about this in school. It’s wild how we can be a block from OSU Tulsa and still see blocks of empty lots where the houses burned because legislation passed years before that disallowed the survivors to rebuild their homes on the land they owned. It’s just in the last few years they’ve allowed a school to be built on part of that area. It’s decimated with poverty but there are still homes standing that show the affluence that neighborhood had 102 years ago. It’s despicable.
When I went to Daniel Webster in Tulsa they thought us this. And even in mustang & Yukon but it was only a few days long and you could tell the teachers didn't want to speak on it
I live in Tulsa, but I went to Black Schools, with AMAZING Black teachers, and I was taught about the Massacre, and so much more of the history that our government wants to bury. So many atrocities, so many stolen lives, families, businesses, land, but Oklahoma keeps voting no on any form of reparations, because…… I mean, it all happened so long ago.🙄
The fact I’m born and raised in Chicago and didn’t know (knew of but didn’t know of) the Black Devils and seeing these statues so often 🥲 smh I’m appreciative of this episode
I’m from chicago, born and raised and I was taught this. But at home. My family is very big into history and we discuss it a lot. Did not learn it in school.
Honestly I had the most amazing neighbor growing up, her name was Chandra, she was like a grandma to the neighborhood kids (I grew up in a tiny town in way down southwest Florida) She was a proud African American Women and honestly as a young kid, I was never raised with any hate towards anyone, our neighborhood was super diverse. She taught some of us about her family and their history and I learned some much about this from her and honestly her only. School never mentioned it, not even a sentence. It truly is disgusting what so many innocent people went through to simply have basic civil rights. I miss her dearly, this was like 25-30 years ago, she has passed on later in my life, after living a long and beautiful life, proud of her heritage and proud to speak of it. Thank you for covering this, more people should know what happened.
Last year, I wrote a 20 page paper about the red summer, emphasized on the Chicago riots. The things I learned during my research were so crazy. I found it interesting how I was learning these things about our history in my 20’s, things that I would have never known if I hadn’t cared to look.
The problem I see is we keep hiding this history from children. And if you don't learn from history you're doomed to repeat it. This was an excellent episode.

Thank you for saying " Black Americans" we're not African.... We are Americans. I can't wait for the day when we can all just be Americans, and not separated by our tones or shades. But thank you.
No disrespect when I ask this... I understand where your going with this Your birth and roots are in the US... but I am asking....u own your Black American status... but disreguard what made u Black American in the first place? The fact that your lineage is from Africa?
@Shene Phang I love and acknowledge my roots of origin.... but to be completely honest, we all have African roots. My point is this. We don't call white americans "european americans"... Why do people of color have to have a prefix in front of their american? I work, live, and pay taxes in america, just like everyone else does who called themselves american. A prefix by definition... Indicates a difference or less than or other than. I'm not less than, or different than, or other than... I'm an american citizen. My racial profile is black, I can be black because my family came from the Caribbean. I can be black because my family came from South America. I can be black because my family originated in australia period. There are black people all over this planet, and we all originate from africa. So if I have to be african american, then all of us have to beat african american. I love being black. I love who I am... But I don't want to be treated differently or spoken too differently because of who I am.
Cut some bangs, or fringe as some call it, and I get Bettie Page or YT influenvcer Ask the Mortician vibes! Great women in their own right in American herstory. 👍🥂🌹☮🍟
Listening to your videos in the background while doing my homework is honestly what has gotten me through grad school and I cannot express enough how appreciative I am of you for that ❤
I’m so glad this is the video that lead me to you. The appropriate sarcasm and nuances touched but not dwelled on because duh, the whole thing I loved it!!
Honestly Bailey is my comfort person. Today I was having a terrible day and then I saw her vid when I entered yt and I immediately smiled and brightened my mood. I love you baileyyy❤❤❤
What I genuinely love about Dark History, is that I too am a curious cat and google points and side stories after watching. You really get people thinking...... thanks for that!!!
Thank you for talking about this. This is one of the many race driven atrocities that some groups are trying to prevent our children from learning about because it makes certain people uncomfortable.
@@linxj6 I'm not sure why they would but they do and unfortunately some of them are in positions of power and are attempting to re-write or remove certain aspects of American history altogether.
I just had emergency gallbladder surgery last night and seeing this video has really helped the start of my recovery! Thanks Bailey for throwing down more knowledge
Thank you for covering this! I never heard of this before but your Dark History videos are always a starting point that are digestible and entertaining before I do more research and educate myself on all the craziness.
Read about the Rosewood Massacre. I had a classmate who was a descendent of this, and was even in the feature film that retold this story. Such a sad thing. Thanks for bringing these types of unsavory parts of our history to light. Unfortunately, we cannot learn from our past if we bury it.
Only Bailey can have me googling a topic WHILE I'm listening to her about it AND I've already studied it before 😆. This is such a sad story we all need to know in detail.
Cringing at all the comments regarding Baileys make up / outfit / energy (always goes without saying!) but in this video??! Did you not even hear it… ? Trauma at the heart of humanity and it was practically yesterday in terms of relative timelines. A very sobering video. Thank for as always.
tbh the thumbnail of her with a huge jolly smile whilst image detailing this horrible incident surrounds her & the truly heartbreaking contents is also cringe & tone-deaf. This is not something to smile abt.. unless your- yk. i like her videos & im sure she means no harm, idk I just looks off tome.
Bailey, we’re thankful for you spreading this history. Can’t help but think kids in schools won’t learn this, so hopefully they come across your channel!
There is a sad observation in regards to history. The hope of humanity coming together cannot be fully realized when there have been and continue to be so many that don't see others as human. I'm glad you did this episode Bailey. It's definitely a need to know!❤
I love this series as a starting off point for more research. It provides some emotional context for the absurdity, unfairness and tragedy of our history, and I hope it sparks interest among viewers to do more research themselves. Thank you for bringing people these stories in the first place!
Thank you Bailey. History keeps getting hidden or replaced then repeated in some form. If we keep all of the history and LEARN we could stop the cycles. We could end hatred and division.
I'd love to see you do an episode on the Rock Springs Massacre. You are doing such important work bringing these stories to light, I seriously love this series, MMM, and YOU!
26:30 I literally live on South King Drive a few blocks from the statue and had no idea about its history until now! Thank you Bailey for informing me of its importance.
I just love learning history with you! If it wasn't for your videos, it would take me a lot longer to get any chores done around my house... especially washing dishes!
❤ I love dark history but I’m so scared. Some do not want this truth taught and that’s why it’s not in school curriculum. Bless you for telling the truth. Please be safe
It makes me so mad that we spend a whole semester on colonial America but a week on civil rights in high school American History classes. Thank you for ✨actually educating✨, Bailey! Our teachers are graded on how well their pupils retain the state required material so no hate on our teachers btw.
The happy ending is that there are people like you challenging the norm and spreading some truths. History is written by the victors, the conquerors, the colonizers, and it's in their interest to paint themselves in the best light. Kids think Instagram is all about projecting the right image, but governments have been editing their feed for far longer. This episode reminded me of the movie The Great Debaters, if you haven't seen it, find it, heart breaking.
I'm so happy you finally did this episode! Thank you Bailey ❤️ This definitely was a lot to add to your original story. That's WILD 🤯 RIP to everyone who lost their lives. Everyone in government should be required to know this story. Many mistakes were made and that's not okay.
I feel like I never realised how much work you put into you’re videos finding all this information and putting it into a timeline and almost story form it’s very impressive
I remember doing a bit of research (going down complete rabbit holes) myself after reading about Black Wall Street and watching Rosewood in the 90s. Both are absolutely heartbreaking as many other stories like them. 😢
i think all of these "Dark History" episodes should be required learning in high schools all across the country. they should be made part of school curriculum. at the least, teachers should recommend to their students that they watch these episodes at home, may be get extra credit if they do.
I just love you so much Bailey! Whenever I’m having anxiety just listening to you so easy going and fun helps me calm down so much! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ thank you for being you!
You and the people who help and locate all the factual information is imperative for all to hear. I have 3 kids youngest being 9. They all listen to dark history. ( minus the rhymes with horn one). Thank you all for you hard work!
Thank you for sharing this story. Unfortunately a lot of this kind of history has been lost or kept silent. This event and many others has been the catalyst for where we are now. Now we are aware because people have cameras and social media.
I lived through the 1967 riots in Detroit, it was horrible for everyone involved. I regret I was to young to understand to get it then. I became a history major in College but they sure did not state so many of the stories you show. It sure learned much on my own. And Thanks to your info I learned so much more.
Hey Bailey !!! You should google the Acadian exile and how the people were forced to leave their homes and go live in Louisiana! My family came over in 1756 but even 200 years later when cajun kids went to school they would get whipped if the spoke their native language, cajun French. Now because of that the Cajun language is not spoken at all in some parts of the state and not many young people know how to speak it.
@@linxj6 Literally no. No one should expect anyone to speak any particular language "in society." If you don't enjoy hearing many languages walk away. Close your ears. Put in your air pods. Get a grip. Realize you are not some master linguist. Your opinion is not needed.
also bailey i've requested this for a really long time and i've even sent you a couple messages on insta, but can you please do the jessica lunsford case for your monday videos! it happened in my town and people don't talk about it a lot and it's pretty crazy. my schools deputy was one of the ones that worked on the case to find jessica. the case also passed a major bill in all states to help keep predators away from schools and parks!!! it's really really interesting
Bailey, I love you. I have been watching you since your Ipsy days. I must admit that it’s interesting to see all of the people in your comments talking about how they have never heard of these things. It’s much easier for them to hear these things from someone who looks like you. So while I commend you for bringing these things to a larger audience, I challenge you to highlight black women who are doing this alongside of you who get maybe 10% of the views you get.
serious question - why not just "black people" or "black creators" in general? why gender specific? I have seen both black woman and black men telling these storys. Again, seeking to understand. thank you.
@linxj6 what do you mean "her side"? Obviously there's a lot more info out there and people should educate themselves but there's absolutely no other side. This is a horrible part of history and no amount of whitesplaining will change what happened. The perps always have excuse and try to justify their actions. There is NO JUSTIFICATION, so beat it with that nonsense.
See I heard this story from my dad about Charles but the reason they were after him is because someone saw the wife sneaking around with Charles romantically and even in her home. So word got back to her husband and that started this crazy story

But I don't want to be treated differently or spoken too differently because of who I am.
something about her personality and how it shines through her story telling....just draws you in along with her beauty, Great content and setup
You were so buzzed when making this episode...great story...I never even heard of red summer.
Right? Glad I'm not the only one cluing in lol
It’s sad that I did not know about this. I wish we could learn from our past and just grow as a human race. Thank you for sharing this story.
You’re amazing Bailey. Thanks for teaching everyone who probably never would’ve learned any of this. Because history really is important.
The make up, the hair and the outfit are SO well correlated!! Love it Bailey!!!❤
Every week I wait eagerly and not so patiently for these...I'm such a sucker for history and the obscure parts of it
side note: can we talk aout how beautiful her makeup is? WE LOVE YOU BAILEY
Like snow white
My favorite looks are always the ones where there's no tutorial 😔
I know! I am dying over that shade of lipstick!
Yes! Your lip color is gorgeous
I want a tutorial from bailey on how she did her makeup!
I love that Bailey gets invested with her research and makes it enjoyable, humorous, and educational for her audience🥰🙌🏼
Yes, I just wish utube wouldn't delete responses.
As an okie (Okc) my whole life I hadn’t heard about it until your episode on it. Bailey out here teaching us real history!
Bailey needs to be one of the teachers in all the next seasons of Wednesday Adams
What a fun cameo!
Yoooooo, that's such a fun idea, she'd fit right in at Nevermore 😂
Honestly Bailey is my comfort person. Today I was having a terrible day and then I saw her vid when I entered yt and I immediately smiled and brightened my mood. I love you baileyyy❤❤❤
So it’s not just me then. 😂🙏🏽
@@kimgordonstudio oh no it’s nott😂
What I genuinely love about Dark History, is that I too am a curious cat and google points and side stories after watching. You really get people thinking...... thanks for that!!!
Thank you for talking about this. This is one of the many race driven atrocities that some groups are trying to prevent our children from learning about because it makes certain people uncomfortable.
Why would anyone feel the least bit uncomfortable when we and our families had nothing to do with what happened back then?
@@linxj6 I'm not sure why they would but they do and unfortunately some of them are in positions of power and are attempting to re-write or remove certain aspects of American history altogether.
i learned about this in school it just depends on what school i guess
@@haleygonzalez4797 lol you think most schools learned about this?
@@linxj6because it still happening right now, what a different name and a slight twist.
Bailey has done a video about the Rosewood massacre before.. such a heartbreaking event
she has a video on it already
@@courtneyd9111 oh wow, I totally missed that.
How do you become a decent in a massacre???
@@erickamorgan4564 you have ancestors who were alive and lived in the rosewood area during the time. Not everyone effected was killed.
I always hate these comments. They can't read the room
tbh the thumbnail of her with a huge jolly smile whilst image detailing this horrible incident surrounds her & the truly heartbreaking contents is also cringe & tone-deaf. This is not something to smile abt.. unless your- yk. i like her videos & im sure she means no harm, idk I just looks off tome.
It’s so interesting learning about all this history as an Australian! I can just listen to Bailey talk about anything!
Love when you remind me to just sit back, relax, and listen. I need to do that more. 💕
Thank you so much for making this and the Tulsa massacre videos!
You have my viewership for life now
I just love learning history with you! If it wasn't for your videos, it would take me a lot longer to get any chores done around my house... especially washing dishes!
❤ I love dark history but I’m so scared. Some do not want this truth taught and that’s why it’s not in school curriculum. Bless you for telling the truth. Please be safe
This sounds so much like the Zoot Suit riots against Chicanos. I would love to see this on your show.
Bailey honey, your look in this video is absolutely flawless. The material in this video as these dark history videos always are is very sad
I feel like I never realised how much work you put into you’re videos finding all this information and putting it into a timeline and almost story form it’s very impressive
MONDAYS AND THURSDAYS ARE MY FAVORITE DAYS BECAUSE OF YOU BAILEY ❤️
Bailey always coming in clutch during my chores 🤣🤍
Hi Bailey... welcome to my kitchen ❤ Thank you for being my cooking assistant ❤
I remember doing a bit of research (going down complete rabbit holes) myself after reading about Black Wall Street and watching Rosewood in the 90s. Both are absolutely heartbreaking as many other stories like them. 😢
You’re the only person that I don’t skip through that ads because for some reason I don’t mind them from you 😂❤
I adore you so much girl! You've gotten me out of really deep, dark places over the years . Keep serving your beautiful soul, we're here for it 🫶🏽🙏🏽💕
That's crazy that I'm 40 and just learning this. Thank you I always enjoy your videos ✌️❤️
I’m almost thirty. Well thirty in a few years, and I’m just learning this.
i think all of these "Dark History" episodes should be required learning in high schools all across the country. they should be made part of school curriculum. at the least, teachers should recommend to their students that they watch these episodes at home, may be get extra credit if they do.
I just love you so much Bailey! Whenever I’m having anxiety just listening to you so easy going and fun helps me calm down so much! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ thank you for being you!
Am I the only one who's listened to this multiple times and still hear something new each time?
Keep being the light on our Dark History
Thank you for doing a show on this history of the US.
It's history that shouldn't be forgotten
You and the people who help and locate all the factual information is imperative for all to hear. I have 3 kids youngest being 9. They all listen to dark history. ( minus the rhymes with horn one). Thank you all for you hard work!
Okay, whoever did your makeup, I would love a tutorial. This look is BOMB. Red lips look fantastic on you Bailey
@@blueeyedscorpio7 great thank you so much . Much appreciated ❤️
@@ALexi-2002 Not a problem! 😉
My Dad was 15 living in Detroit in 67’ as well. He has definitely experienced trauma as a result
From Louisiana. They outlawed the written word, as well. They shut down newspapers that were not published in English. :(
@@linxj6 Literally no. No one should expect anyone to speak any particular language "in society." If you don't enjoy hearing many languages walk away. Close your ears. Put in your air pods. Get a grip. Realize you are not some master linguist. Your opinion is not needed.
Same with us indigenous!
@@beach_flower9663 Trail of Tears is one of the most horrible and saddest events to ever happen. It horrifies me.
also bailey i've requested this for a really long time and i've even sent you a couple messages on insta, but can you please do the jessica lunsford case for your monday videos! it happened in my town and people don't talk about it a lot and it's pretty crazy. my schools deputy was one of the ones that worked on the case to find jessica. the case also passed a major bill in all states to help keep predators away from schools and parks!!! it's really really interesting
Hubby and I don’t get much time together but when we do our favorite thing is he plays his game and listening to a episode from Bailey 🖤🖤🖤
I like that you do background history on criminals in your stories. Very insightful of you.
You are SUCH a queen. Thank you for putting out your content. Def my fave TH-camr!!!
Girl, sthu. We don't need handmedowns from white people. There's plenty of room for people to make their own way on TH-cam.
serious question - why not just "black people" or "black creators" in general? why gender specific? I have seen both black woman and black men telling these storys. Again, seeking to understand. thank you.
This is literally happening in America and Canada as we speak.
A race war?
I'm from Chile and really curious, would you elaborate please??
I love these episodes so much when I'm helping my mom do catering. Thx for always being there Bailey😊❤❤
US History teacher in South Louisiana here. We DO teach the Red Summer in the curriculum now!
Bailey your consistency is everything to me!!!!
Your pj's are so lush ❤
BAILEY I would love for you to cover the zoot suit riots that happened in los angeles
She has 😉 about a year or so ago
bailey is the only way i will want to learn about history
Leaning to your likes. Silence the other side.
You're only learning her side then. You are prejudiced and letting it affect how you live now. Wrong.
Girl, thank you for getting me through my incredibly monotonous work days! Much love!🥰
I just came across your channel! You are amazing for bringing this all out. I had no idea! Thank you
Bailey thank you so much for covering this. I never knew about this!!❤❤❤
See I heard this story from my dad about Charles but the reason they were after him is because someone saw the wife sneaking around with Charles romantically and even in her home. So word got back to her husband and that started this crazy story
Bailey - you're always so on point with the band t-shirts!!! 🖤🖤🖤
Social Distortion & now NOFX (just to name a few)
I’ve said this before, but I lived in Tulsa my whole life and the first time I’ve heard about the Tulsa Race Riot was in college. I was so surprised
Honestly, you could’ve told me this fuckery had happened yesterday and I’d not have known this difference.
Bailey, I love you so much! 😍 I can’t believe I’ve never heard of this at my big old age of 33. It’s horrific! 😭 Thank you for bringing this into the light.
