Talked about going fast with the guy who works at local bike dealership. Great guy (in his late 50s) who was probably born on a motorcycle. Extremely knowledgeable. And while we do disagree with each other on some (brand related) subjects that we keep exchanging loving abuse about, he is 100% right on this one: He took the Busa and the H2 once on the Autobahn for the lulz and gave them some beans. According to him „North of 230 kph it stops being fun. You just hold on for dear life and pray that no grandpa decides to come crawling into your lane at 85 kph. If you can pop a wheelie going 240 kph, you know the bike is completely OP for most riders. Also, you can’t hold that speed for long on public roads anyway. Those bikes are just dumb. No one needs that amount of power outside of a racetrack except the morons who make the evening news. I have attended too many funerals over the years because of that kind of bravado.“
This hits so differently for someone growing up in Germany. I drove 80 mph in driving school, it's the advised speed on the autobahn. 100mph is so absolutely nothing to write home about, the occasional spirited soccer mom with their kids and grocery in the car will regularly approach that speed here. Fast starts at 200 kph which is 124 mph.
@@SSS-mp8th one time my open GP race bike was at one bike dealership the day before a race, and the pickup truck used to transport the bike was at our other dealership about 30 miles away. I had no way to get to the pickup, other than to ride the racebike on the freeway to it. Being completely illegal to ride on the street, having open intakes and exhaust, no lights, no license, no turn signals, and slick tires, I figured my safest way to do this was to minimize my time of exposure. Running above 165 all the way there down I-405. That was way more scary than the race the next day. Only time ever more scared on a bike, was having to ride that GP bike in the rain at 170 with my face shield fogged up!
Not sure on 100, but an intentional 150MPH years ago on a slightly modified 03 CB919 in Alaska on a empty stretch of Rte 3 Parks Hwy. No traffic to speak of at that time, I think it was around 22:00, but it was still very light out being July/August. Actually the biggest worry I had was moose. But they clear the brush and trees 75 feet from the sides of the road so I would see anything walking towards the road. Stuff started to blur and tunnel vision started at 140ish as I stared down the road looking for threats. The blue light on my gps indicating my specified target speed lit up, and I rolled off and sat up, finally breathing. I had a huge smile and feeling of accomplishment for sometime until stopped at Trapper Creek for fuel. While getting fuel I realized that was pretty stupid of me to do and have only done it a handful of times since then... Keep the rubber side up and cheers all!
1st time was on my Honda VTX1800. That was rowdy as. 1st time hitting 200kph/125mph was on mate’s Rocket 3GT - zero drama, wasn’t even trying to go fast. I actually own a K16 and have crossed Germany twice this year. It can cruise at 100mph but wind and fuel economy are less than ideal. I did 8h days speedrunning through France, Germany and Poland with cruise set to 85mph. That was really the sweet spot.
120 feels super fast on a VTX 1800. No windshield and V-Twin pumping between your legs. Currently shopping for a liter sports tourer, top picks in my budget are Honda VFR1200, Kawasaki Concours 14, or BMW K1300S. The Triumph Rocket is beautiful but way out of my budget. We have a ton of garage queens in my area so I'm generally shopping for 10-year-old bikes with under 10,000 miles.
Probably the first day I picked up my K4 GSXR600 after spending a year and a half on a Yamaha R125(maybe aged 25/26, took me a while to get round to passing my test). Felt pretty crazy after spending a while trying to squeeze everything I could out of a bike with 15bhp.
Going at high speed, at least on the unfared bikes I've had, isn't really that much fun. Just a lot of noise and wind pressure. Even in the absence of law enforcement I think my highway cruising speed would probably be about 120 km/h.
I was on a Sportster that was slammed on rigid struts. This was on I-55 in Chicago which has some sections of terrible buckled asphalt. It's noticeable but negligible with proper suspension. I'm surprised I did not get bucked off.
Guess my first time was on my SV650 going back home to Denmark from France on a German Autobahn.... Having Porsche's and stuff flashing the lights behind me, as i was going "to slow" ... and getting back on the roads in Denmark 70mph (back then) totaly felt like i could step off and walk! Well, i was a long trip 1100 miles in one go! ;-)
I chased a dude on his R1 with his girlfriend on the back seat on my naked SV650 for about 4 miles blowing up over 110 from time to time, up and down hills, stop and go from an intersection, passed a couple cars. He wasn't trying to ditch me, but I had a lot more fun than he did.
First 100mph for me was on an RGV250R & I was 21. That bike was amazing, & terrifying at the time. The powervalve kicking in felt like nitrous back then lol. Also did my first unintentional wheelie on it too which was brown pants time.
In passing conversation mentioned to a friend would love to go max chat on a proper bike but knew i didn't have the self control to not die in the process. Few weeks later got introduced to a friend of his who offered to take me on the back of his 1000cc. Prick didn't tell me he was used to be a road Circuit racer. Them men have balls like basketballs. Took 8 hours for the adrenaline to subside. All I can remember is green hedge green hedge, holding on for dear life.
06:17 - I have a funny(ish) story with a good friend of mine. We were driving on the Autobahn, doing 180-200kmh for a while, and we were talking about how the driving instructors in Germany really make a point about "please pay close attention to your speedometer when going off the autobahn". My friend's opinion was along the lines of "yeah come on ... if you're a good driver you kinda know how fast you're going". Fast forward 10 mins or so, and we take an exit. I slow down to 50 (the speed limit) just before the righthander, and almost immediately my friend is like "dude come on pick it up a bit, are we doing 20?" it was funny to see him realize he might not be as good of a driver as he thinks he is 😂
My first 100 (indicated lol) was on my brothers borrowed Suzuki GT 380 at 7am in the summer of 1973 on the 219 from West Seneca to Orchard Park, NY while commuting to work. I was 19 years old. I'll never forget it!
The last time I remember going 100 (indicated lol) was about a month ago on my '04 250 Ninjette and I was rolling with a few cars in light traffic on a stretch of Interstate near Chattanooga. I had the throttle pinned for about five miles and was as tucked in as I could be. That was a lot of fun too!
I sold my rocket because I was doing around 180 and still had a gear to go without realizing how fast I was going...i topped that bike at 217 on a track...
17 years old , 1966 on my new (to me) 1965 BSA Lightning Rocket. I had 6 years of 3 1/2 hp mini-bike experience under my belt so I was "qualified" hahahah !
A summer evening in 1972. A nearly empty Gilmer Road in McHenry County, Illinois. A 1966 Velocette Thruxton, the club racer edition with the ridiculous 1 1/2" Amal GP carburetor- no idle circuit- their sodium-filled exhaust valve, the closest-ratio gearbox ever (redline in 1st gear, 50mph), painfully low authentic clip ons, Lucas racing magneto... As I believe it was Gordon Jennings said, a big single doesn't so much accelerate as it gathers speed. So the Velo was indeed. Gilmer Road was empty enough that night that I could let the thing gather and gather. At that point in the evening, the lighting was still working, and I saw that big white Smiths speedo needle just nose past the 100 mark. I'm declaring that as my first making of the Ton. It could easily seem a bit dull a half-century later here in my sunset years, except that nowadays I often find myself on the road behind the silver-haired Irish lass on her Ninja 1000 and doing the Ton is an obligation on any sort of rural ride (or even a certain Tollway), and I can harken back to the days of Velo and BSA that I was riding and think: Boy, have motorcycles improved beyond even the wildest dreams.
My first 100 mph ride with me at the controls was on my Dad's 1976 Suzuki GS 750. I started riding it to school at 16. My folks watched me grow up riding motorcycles, there was no hesitancy on either Dad or Mom's part. Heck, my Dad taught me how to switch from the passenger seat to the rider position on his Triumph Bonneville when I was 9 or 10........
I always feel like Drax (Infinity War) when I’m on the highway. I look down doing 75 at the road passing bye and think if I lost it right now “I can take it”. Crazy how your senses adapt to the speed and fear goes to the back of your mind as the new norm sets in just after a few minutes.
Before I became a track fanatic, it was on my Ducati GT1000 on a Virginia back road. Like any good naked bike, it started to feel like a hurricane from 90 mph to vMax and it was amazing. Nowadays, we can hit 125 at NJMP on rain tires in a monsoon before diving into turn 1. So satisfying.
A friend who'd been racing dirtbikes since he could walk bought a very lightly used Hayabusa when they were only out for a year or so and we were in our late teens. My dad had cruisers my whole life and I knew how to be a good backpack so when he asked if anyone wanted a ride I was the first to say hell yes! I'll never forget how fast that bike was and it helped fuel a lifelong obsession with fast cars and eventually bikes when I finally realized it's pointless making cars fast when even slow bikes are so much more engaging!
I rode 100 mph the first time on my first bike (Honda CB750) right when I took it up home. It was raining but on the German Autobahn. It felt amazing, no drama, no fear, just vroom.
A bit late to the party but when i first picked up my cbr650r, i managed to get to around 120mph on my way home from the dealership and it was "come to jesus" moment for sure. its surprising how much faster 100mph feels compared to a car.
I do remember my first 230k/h on a Suzuki gs650e. I had it done up with a stage 3 Yoshi kit. Frame flexed, brakes below average and I remember going through a flock of galahs (midsized Gray/pink parrot) in the Aussie outback. Never did it again. I was 19.
Some things you never forget. It was 1976 and I was 14 and on my neighbor's H2 750 that was painted Captain America theme. He had every upgrade done to the bike and it was a rocket. I was coming off my 76 CR125 which was quick but not fast like the 2 stroke 750 triple.✌️
On a modern motorcycle 100 is "uneventful " but if you are on a ural 1 of 2 things has happened A: You thought you were going ludicrous speed through turns because you were hanging off the bike and the sidecar was lifting only to look down at the speedo and realized you were only doing 46mph but it felt fast as sh$! Or B: you straight up came in to hot to that turn and blew right threw it off a cliff and now you really are going 100mph, and flying lol. Sidecar life ❤
Tried that speed on a Kawa 454 LTD in the 80s. My girl friend at the time was on the back. The bike reached that speed! However, the heat coming off the front of the motor was intense. There was also a noticable and disturbing wobble that developed from the front wheel! When I saw the speedo, I slowly backed off the throttle so as to not make the wobble problem worse!
Continued: When I slowed down to 80 mph, continued cruising to our destination. I never told the girl friend how fast we were going. She is my wife now! Cheers! 😁
It was the fall of 2008 and I borrowed my friends brand new Hayabusa. My very first ride on a bike at 20 years old, glad I made it out ok. 😂 Stay safe y'all
Test riding a Concours 14, I accelerated until it got a little windy and realized I was well into triple digits, like it was nothing. I bought that bike. It likes to cruise well into arrestable speeds and if I get any more tickets I’ll have to sell it.
Used to have a 1986 GSXR1100 and lived close to Germany. Somewhere around 1999 there was a solar eclipse which was visible in the south of Germany. Did 180kph on the autobahn for 2 hours straight, not really a problem. Bike had no windshield, I had taken it off. Once did 220kph on the same bike, felt completely mental. You’re not really riding the bike anymore, just holding on for dear life aiming at the horizon. And very aware of what would happen if there war a piece of wood or big rock on the road.
ARI?! Did you go to the four C’s?! So many friends went to that community college! I born and raised in mass but have been living and riding in california for a decade now. You and zach have gotten me through a lot of hard times. Thanks boys
In 2014 I bought a low mileage 1989 Yamaha FZR1000. It had just been serviced and I put some new tires on it. After spending a couple of months getting used to it I got in the fast lane, tucked behind the wind screen and opened her up. I got up to 153.3 mph between on ramps. As I slowed down and sat up. A goose decided to fly across the highway. It hit the bike, cracked the faring and ripped the mirror clean off. Then it hit me in the shoulder. A guy in a car that was trying to keep up stopped. He said he did not know how I didn't fall. He said he saw the goose the a cloud of feathers😂
First time was on my old 6th gen. Honda VFR 800. I don’t know about 100, but that bike felt like it could run 90 mph all day and not ever really break a sweat.
Have done 160 kmph quite a few times on a straight national highway and then 180 to 190 kmph on an expressway which is 115 or 120 mph .. But these weren't sustained speed because riding at those speeds in India is very risky. So need to calculate and check conditions and then open the throttle.
My first time breaking an indicated 100 was on the Baltimore/Washington Parkway Rt.295 South of Laurel, MD. I was on my YX600 Radian doing just over the limit when a couple of oddballs started throwing empty beer cans at me. No idea why. I snapped it down a gear and opened it up... 105 indicated just as I realized I needed to slow for my off ramp to get to Capitol College. I do remember that going that fast felt effortless for the bike. A bit of a strain in the windstream for me, however.
I'm not sure if I was 15 or 16, but it was on a heavily modified Cagiva Mito which got around 110MPH or even slightly more. Damn those bikes were really something.
Mine was on a r3. Full tuck wide open on the highway. Took a while to get there ha. Seems insignificant now, but it was a good milestone as a new rider 🤙
From my point of view 100 MPH is an artifact of the scale used. In countries that allow it, it is a nice, convenient and very safe highway travelling speed. Even though most people drive a little bit slower.
The law begat people acclimatizing to it. The acclimatized people found "faster speed to be crazy, dangerous, and insane." But what if the law begat 100 or more originally? People would have acclimatized to it, adapted, and gotten on with their lives. Certainly vehicles, suspension, tires, wheels, brakes, engines have all advanced leaps and bounds in capability, but the speed laws for the most part have not.
I consistently go 160kmh(100mph) on the highway to work, fortunately no speed cameras and rarely metro police on that stretch of road, I often go over 180(~115) when I have the space to do so. VFR1200 makes it nice and comfortable with a glorious V4 exhaust note, fastest i've dared to go so far has been 230kmh (140mph). My first time going that fast was on my old SV1000 in 2021, and the motor cut out when i got off the highway, it was an illegal rebuild so it had a lot of issues and I had to sell it for scrap in the end.
Hah, got you all beat bc I am an old guy! For me it was my KZ650 - 1977. Dealer did some re-jetting work (they raced a KZ650), kept stock pipes - no such thing as ECUs back then, all carb work with idle and main jets.
Had a kawi gpz600r in the late 90s, did over 100mph once on it. Will never go that fast again, now adays mostly max 100kmh, sometimes 120 on the freway
You guys never been on the Autobahn. Did 160 mph first day after i got the license. Was on my '02 CBR 600 RR. It had a few mph more in it, but i got off the throttle as i got a bit of handlebar shake in a curve.
1st time at over 160 km/h was on my new Ducati 900S2 on a wide country highway. I wound it up to around 190 km/h and momentarily turned my head a bit to see what was behind me- my head was nearly ripped off. I appreciated the motogp riders more after that.
My first 100mph ride was in the driving school and I was 17. Even with that I couldn't keep up with the driving teacher, who rode a much faster bike up and away on the German autobahn. After this experience 100mph was no longer anything to mention. If you think this is weird... well, we must not have guns therefore.
Never on a bike. First and last time in a Lincoln Continental. Getting to 100+ mph was simple, stopping was the issue. Blew through a 4 way stop at over 60mph with horn blowing.
Borrowed a friend's RG500 and tried to keep up with his GPZ1100. Didn't manage it but it was flat out so probably close to 140. I would have been around 20 (1980's) and it was pretty scary.
I remember hitting 100+ on my CB550 at 18. I could get it to an indicated 125 if I laid forward with my chin on the tank and my legs stretched out behind me superman style.
I did 100mph on a street triple 765 RS on private land in matter of seconds or something without fully twisting trottle it terrifed me had to roll off as soon as saw 100+ lol damn thing is fast!
My first 100mph would have been on an old CB360T, and then my dad's Yamaha 750 triple, and then every bike that I've owned that was capable of 100mph.... Maxim 550, GS550. RZ350, VFR750, KTM690, FZ6, Versys 650, Tiger 1050, Tiger 800, Scramber 1200....
I just about clipped a skunk at night, with a half decent headlight but I didn't have my clear helmet lens along so it wasn't very safe. Seeing that stripped tail go zipping by my right footpeg just inches away was a tad unnerving.
I might have taken my GPz 550 up to 100mph (though not likely). But given the speedometer was limited to showing only up to 85... I’m going to claim 100 for sure!
My first 100mhp was on a Honda VTX 1800 lol. Im lame.. Nope! Just remembered my 86 XJ1100 (first bike). That was scary. Cant believe I forgot about that.

My first ton was also on an H1. What a handful. Stopping was another matter. Your right about the "heinous noise" of an H1 at full chat.
For legal reasons, all the stories discussed in this clip definitely happened in Mexico.
K1600! Was writing the comment as the video got there and took words right outta my mouth.
My first 100 mph experience was sketch AF.
~110 as a passenger on a 1991 EX500 Ninja. We sure loved that bike.
Bro had a 1993 one of those, with Cobra F1R slip-ons, Stage 7 Dynojet kit, and it sorta kinda went pretty well (shhhh..).
A bit late to the party but when i first picked up my cbr650r, i managed to get to around 120mph on my way home from the dealership and it was "come to jesus" moment for sure. its surprising how much faster 100mph feels compared to a car.
Its not going 100mph, its the acceleration to 100mph thats memorable.
My first 100 was my second day of owning my first bike, a 2024 ninja 500
I'm not sure if I was 15 or 16, but it was on a heavily modified Cagiva Mito which got around 110MPH or even slightly more. Damn those bikes were really something.
Back in June, I hit 102 on my Z400, then 106 a few minutes later. So glad I installed a windshield on that thing.
Haha. Same. 106 on my z400. No windsheild. On i80 in illinois windy as hell.
1966 and I still have the machine 🤣
I have a K1600 and live on the Canadian Prairies. It's difficult to not hit 100 MPH when passing someone on our lightly traveled two lane highways.
Dr350: no way it could touch 80, Dr650: 93 was the max it touch. R1150r: 5 minutes after buying it. Finally the feeling of true power.
180 on a 1995 zx7r L1 race bike retired from the ama, miss that bike, cant breathe and its like a tunnel that is slowly getting smaller
This made me laugh. In my case it was dad's 650s bandit on a country road 😁
Hah, got you all beat bc I am an old guy! For me it was my KZ650 - 1977. Dealer did some re-jetting work (they raced a KZ650), kept stock pipes - no such thing as ECUs back then, all carb work with idle and main jets.
On today's 1000cc, 160kph is really effortless. Cruising speed really
Back in 1976 on my 1974 RD350 and kinda scary with stock suspension.
I did 100mph on my 2023 Ninja 400. Does it super easy on a highway ngl. Makes out around (180kmh-111mph)
It might have been on an interstate with light traffic and no on-ramps when I first went over 100 m.p.h. on my V-Strom 650.
I've done 120 on my SAS on a fire road and it's very interesting to say the least.
Finally hit 200 this past weekend! 🎉🏁🏁🏁
Hi Ari I ride on Rt 6 also, there is a stretch between South Yarmouth and Dennis that sound almost impossible to not hit 100 miles an hour.😅
First 100 650 BSA with the help of a long easy slope downhill, San Francisco in my teens.
100mph is in the middle of nowhere. 60 to 65 mph is spot on for cruising.
Is either 60 or fast touring at 150/180mph, on a supersport.
Bandit was a good bike, front fork too soft but the rest was spot on. That H1 was a gem.
👍 For the K16
1st time at over 160 km/h was on my new Ducati 900S2 on a wide country highway. I wound it up to around 190 km/h and momentarily turned my head a bit to see what was behind me- my head was nearly ripped off. I appreciated the motogp riders more after that.
WHat's that like 35mph?
My first 100mph ride was in the driving school and I was 17. Even with that I couldn't keep up with the driving teacher, who rode a much faster bike up and away on the German autobahn. After this experience 100mph was no longer anything to mention. If you think this is weird... well, we must not have guns therefore.
1986 on my VMax, 135mph. Could have gone faster if I wasn’t running out of straight road. That was enough for me.
Never on a bike. First and last time in a Lincoln Continental. Getting to 100+ mph was simple, stopping was the issue. Blew through a 4 way stop at over 60mph with horn blowing.
I hit 160 kmph during my driving lessons. Wanted to overtake a few semi's as my exit was coming up. Was on a kawasaki z650.
I haven't gotten there yet. The Vulcan 900 will do it I just haven't been on the right stretch of road yet.
First time was on a DR650 full send in 5th gear haha.
ZH2... is there a new video coming...? ❤
Brock's performance took a tuned out out for a friendly competition with a guy on a ZX-10R. You can go have a look at that one.
I need “daily rider” ASAP!!!!!!!
First for me was a xr650L. First time I tried was on a yz250 two stroke it hit 80 on gps that I had in my pocket.
1973 Z900 night time scared me shirtless as the headlight was woeful. I was 16 (no licence)
I just about clipped a skunk at night, with a half decent headlight but I didn't have my clear helmet lens along so it wasn't very safe. Seeing that stripped tail go zipping by my right footpeg just inches away was a tad unnerving.
Took throttle to lock on every bike I've had since highschool. 100mph is first gear for some.
I set cruise at 100 for 20 minutes on my way to work every day 😂
I might have taken my GPz 550 up to 100mph (though not likely). But given the speedometer was limited to showing only up to 85... I’m going to claim 100 for sure!
mine was on my 91 sportster 883. had to keep up with a road king
Full tuck down a hill on highway riding a rebuilt 06 Ninja 250. Indicated 105 but I have doubts lol.
My first 100mhp was on a Honda VTX 1800 lol. Im lame..
Nope! Just remembered my 86 XJ1100 (first bike). That was scary. Cant believe I forgot about that.
First time at 100 on a 82 Honda Shadow 750.
The Spurgeon General recommends Americans get three digits of speed DAILY.
No wonder I feel so rotten. I've got a ton of catching up to do.
I bought a 1999 red & white R6 and went 100 mph on it was so exciting compared to KX250 lol
Have any of your ridden on the Autobahn??
did it on my RD350 and one year later 160 on guzzi 850 le mans PR
Just hit 165 for the first time on my 06 cbr1000rr
I've made a ton on several bikes. Didn't stay for long, though.
Not sure when my first 100 was, probably on my CBR600, quickest (approx 155ish) was on my ZZR600
