@@waxinggibbous718 Hi. Best way to learn is to go to the local yacht club and ask at reception if any of the boats are looking for crew for racing, which is usually Wednesdays and Sundays but mostly in summer. There are also notice boards at the clubs always looking for crew. Plenty yachts for sale in Sydney, especially at the Pittwater. DBY is the main yacht agent there. Watching all the you tube sailing channels is also good way to get idea of what it’s all about but sure you already watching. Best of luck
@@brandonjacksonsailing891 Thank you, I think I will go down to Fannie bay. So I can already windsurf, kitesurf, I am a commercial helicopter pilot so I know how to Nav. I think it’s more the anchoring, tides and passage crossings that I want to learn about. Maybe I should do a regatta to indo. Are you still in darwin?
@@bubbleobill267 both worry me! I come from Africa where far more people are lost to crocs than sharks, but yes I agree, easy to escape a croc -on land that is- than a shark. Loved TI!
@@quolls2 Hi. Totally different sail the other way. The trades will still be blowing, so would imagine, ride the correct tidal currents out of Darwin, which if read correctly will give you a good push up to Alcora Bay. From there I would hug the coast, doing hops along as calm days allow. Hole in the wall should be an option since going over top of the Wessel islands would expose to the trades. Again, get the current/tides right and totally doable. I think Jimmy Cornell’s World voyages book gives some routes for going East through the Arafura sea. I am a trade wind, lazy downwind sailor so not much advice to give, sorry. Safe sails. Would be interested to know how it went. From August will get the Northerly spells to head from Thursday Island down Oz East coast, should be easier but they say that can wait a week or two for a Northerly spell, so sit tight. Many good anchorages.
Interesting, we are looking to do that trip from Cairns in August. Hope we have some good winds.
@@SVPearler should still be good trade winds in August. Safe sails.
We are going the other way, in August
I am looking to learn to sail, I am planning on buying a boat in Sydney and sailing it up to darwin

@@waxinggibbous718 Regatta to Indo is good one. They all there soon and leave in a few weeks to indo.
@@waxinggibbous718 currently in Indonesia. Left Darwin 19 June.
I lived on TI for three years, we never worried too much about the Crocs. The sharks were the ones to get worried about…..

Nice one….
Any tips?
We are going the other way, in August. Is there any advice?

Cricket was tense
☹️🙈
Could be worse - we could all still be in Prickly Bay facing hurricane Beryl!
