Bear in mind that the Tories won last time with the smallest popular vote in a long time, only 1/3 of the country voted for them, the others were divided over the other parties, our voting system makes it beneficial to divide the other parties. You have to tactically vote in the UK, if you're preferences are Green then Labour and never Conservative you have to vote for the largest of your two choices, a vote for a small 3rd party essentially gives your vote to the stronger larger party you dislike.
I was also surprised at this election. I have to give Theresa May her due, although she was not for Brexit, she respects that the people democratically decided on Brexit. She wants to get on with the job of exiting the EU so the UK can move forward without her having to battlle all sides every step of the way. I do not envy her
