Sadly, the papers like the Daily mail or news channels like sky will paint this as Harry being greedy. I'm by no means a royalist, but the treatment of him, even before his marriage and stepping back was disgusting. Imagine being in a position where a standing joke is that you're not your fathers son? Whilst William and Kate had some issues, they were treated with more respect from the start. There was an interview as well with a retired police officer (possibly counter terrorism) that confirmed that not only were there credible threats made against Meghan, they were people who were given jail sentances. Given this and the press it's no surprise he wanted out. The idea that he is scared for his family being 'over dramatic ' by certain outlets is clearly just those he has critised trying to discredit him. Yes, somethings they've done haven't helped them, but this result will hopefully show everyone - especially his family - that he was not paranoid and was right to pursue this case. It'll be interesting to see what the Murdoch family do with their own court case. Given the split of essentially right/left wing, this might help get rid of Rupert and Lachlan.

I can see what happened in the negotiations, Harry would have said "No i want to go on with the trial". His lawyer knew what Harry wanted so it would not have been a surprise to him. Then NGN knew that they had to give him what he really wanted and that wasnt money it was acknowledgement of their culpability. They couldnt afford for all the facts to be heard in court. Today’s news about Prince Harry made my day. At last the Sun has admitted its offence and apologized. Prince Harry has achieved his purpose. I am a non-Brit, whose illusions about the honesty and impartiality of the British press have been shattered by the way in which it has reported this matter. The oldest English magazine, the Spectator, has only published articles against the Sussexes (sometimes two and three in the same issue) for many years. One balanced article by Tanya Gold was hidden away in the middle pages. This deplorable incident convinces me that poor plaintiffs cannot get justice in British courts and that the British press will not condemn crimes when they are committed by their own kind.

Murdoch learned from the US Fox case re the voting computer company when he allowed the case to be heard and paid €770m in damages. This may be why he settled this time out of court. I am delighted for Harry. He is the best of the RF who made a big mistake by not protecting him and his family. By leaving he could take this case.

Harry secured accountability by forcing NGN’s admission of guilt by refusing to accept a payout without admitting guilt first. NGN stopped the proceedings not Harry. Harry just agreed.

@@belindamay8063 No reason to think that. The defendants could have been ordered to pay Harry's court and legal costs, had Harry's case been found by the judge to be justified. The judge stopped the case because Harry had proved his case when the defendant admitted guilt. Cut and dried.
Labour should use this result as a starting point for media regulation.
