I think it's not just Japanese people..but a lot of westerners are moving to Malaysia..because their country is experiencing a crisis of social problems, high crime, high taxes and political problems too..southeast Asia is the focus of Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia, Singapore and Brunei😂

Malaysia was chosen as one of the three destinations for Japanese people to reside in case a major earthquake destroys Tokyo and other major cities. The Japanese government realized that they need to ensure that the Japanese society still survives and grow outside of Japan. Malaysia, Hong Kong and Australia were the three places chosen as they did not have earthquakes or other major weather calamities. The second reason was because these three places had multi raciality and religious beliefs.

@@EGO0808 Not really. More Japanese live in Malaysia than in Singapore. That is why they have Shinto shrines and a Japanese university in Malaysia, besides the dozens of Japanese malls and restaurants, of course! JETRO has statistics to confirm this.

The first Japanese brand I can recall from my early years is Ajinomoto, a well-known brand that enhances the flavour of our cuisine. I only knew about Japan and Japanese people from my parents' stories and history books about the Japanese occupation of our country during World War II. We learnt more about Japan when the Tun Dr. Mahathir administration implemented the "Look East Policy" in 1982, which is seen as a major turning point in Malaysia's bilateral relations with Japan. Following that, we here were familiar with a number of Japanese names, such as Toyota, Honda, Kawasaki, Mitsubishi, Sony, KDK, Panasonic, Sharp, Hitachi, and many more.
We welcome Japanese people since they have contributed many amazing qualities that have enabled us to thrive as a developing nation. Malaysia is now considered to be among the cleanest countries in Southeast Asia due to the Japanese's excellent attention to cleanliness, and we are happy to follow their attitudes to keep our own country clean and tidy. We are happy to have Japanese people in Malaysia and no longer consider them to be strangers here.

    1. Malaysia is broadly divided into two main groups: (i) Bumiputera (indigenous groups), which include Malays, Iban, Kadazan, Murut, Melanau, Kayan, Kelabit, Penan, Bajau, Sakai, and others; and (ii) Non-Bumiputera, such as Chinese, Indian, Sikh, Serani, etc.
    2. Like most major cities in Malaysia, there are plenty of 24-hour eateries. The most popular among them are Mamak (Muslim Indian) restaurants, often the only places open around the clock.
    3. Some tourists might find Kuala Lumpur (KL) a bit boring, as their idea of excitement often involves nightlife, easy access to alcohol, drugs (like marijuana), and the sex industry-areas in which Thailand is more renowned. However, Malaysia is more of a food lover’s paradise, with a slower pace and a focus on family-friendly activities. KL reflects this cultural aspect, plus it has less smog and traffic compared to Bangkok and Jakarta.
    4. Cities like KL have a significant number of foreign workers from Bangladesh, Myanmar, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Nepal, who are mostly employed in the service industry, construction, and manufacturing sectors.
    5. Malaysia is also well-known for its high-quality and affordable healthcare, attracting many foreigners from Western countries like the US and Canada. Even Indonesians frequently visit Malaysia for health screenings and treatments.

the bad side was.. is name is totally too much differentiate, you can't tell, which one is what or where
but you could try 👍🏼 confirmed the name " Tokyota " or " Takoyaki " ( たこやき with an old Japan since i taught this name date's back as far as 1970 👍🏼

When it comes to cultural diversity, singapore cant match malaysias with not only its 3 major ethnicities but also its umpteen indigenous tribes like the bidayuhs, kayans, kenyahs , dusuns, dayaks, kadazans, senous, jakuns etc besides minority groups such as thai malaysians n portugese malaysians. Japanese communities traditionally stick together in Mont Kiara, where they go to Japanese restaurants, cafés and bars, send the children to Japanese international schools and spend time together in their own community. But indeed, there is a large Japanese expat community here in KL

The other reasons i could think of are:-
    - Japan government policy in clean (re: nuclear) power generation has imminent risks. The Fukushima disaster added on to the radiation that still persisted since Hiroshima and Nagasaki vs a relatively less contaminated environment n Malaysia.
    - Risk free Interest Rates at c3.70% is a good bet for your money vs the low interest rates in Japan.
