Artosis keeps saying how pros NEED to get zealot speed as quick as possible, so they all just collectively decided to f*ck with him and find ways to steamroll without it anyway.
The major power of speedlots is mine dragging when the Terran is Vulture-heavy; when the Terran isn't Vulture heavy they are only there really to draw tank fire from Goons, Goons deal all the damage, Zealots tank all the damage, which they don't need speed for. EDIT: also Protoss really misplayed this by not target firing the Tanks with the Goons more, instead wasting shots on Goliaths.
Just imagine being a vulture doing burnouts in the neighbourhood when the sergeant is not watching and then you see this angry zealot following you like he had a bad monday trying to scratch your coolest bike with his psi blades.
I'm glad you took a moment post game to talk about siege positions. it's something I've watched you become much more mindful of lately. My 2 cents is what's important about evaluating a good tank siege position is, you want the limits of the siege range to land in the choke, there's some terrain that allows you to cut off paths for engagements, and ideally, there's buildable terrain nearby to fortify with turrets/depot walls. The limit arc doesn't need to be the whole span of the choke, the units still leave the choke with the same conga line they needed inside, mid or even at the end of the choke can be acceptable if the lead position changes alot, like if it's the difference between a high ground cliff or a tree off to the side (both high ground and underneath trees offer 50% dodge rate advantage). Taking time to investigate maps to find critical siege positions to get to or deny, pays dividends in intentional movement and triaging which units and where you should prioritize your attention.
Oh my god Hiya still plays? Love that one tournament where he beats Jaedong and starts banging on a drum, even Jaedong cracked a smile and joined in the fun despite the loss
Thankful for your videos Arty! Bout to head to see our families in Knoxville. I’ll prob just drink and watch some old Paul Harrell thanksgiving specials. If you know you know. Rest in peace Paul!
It depends on definition and somewhat how correct the numbers are but: Soccer: around 150 000 pro players Baseball: around 20 000 pro players in the world Open-wheel car racing (i.e. F1): 2 000-3 000 professionals Brood War: 2 000-3 000 pro players in it's *26 year history* So if we go by absolute numbers, Brood War is _orders of mangnitude_ harder to become a "pro" in. If we go by professionals / population of countries with pro teams, baseball also loses out: Brood War 0.048% Soccer 0.0016% Baseball 0.0008% Open-wheel 0.000099% So open-wheel car racing is about 8 times harder than baseball to get into.
He isn’t calculating how hard it is versus how many people are trying to do it. Yea there is more turnover in sports, But there is literally 100,000 new aspirants every year. StarCraft doesn’t have that.
Would love for you to go into more depth on the 'levels' of skill that exist in brood war. Frankly i see tiers within the SSL level that you talked about and its obvious there are many tiers below the SSL level. Which tier would you place yourself in lol?
Have you ever casted a tournament to completion with your daily casts? I tried keeping up with asl but it was too much. Not sure if others would be interested but I think it would be fun. Could pick one cast of out 3 game series and just update daily after game where the tourney is at to the point of your video.
Tanks have a minimum range where they stop hitting in there, and the other tanks do splash damage if they hit a unit next to the tank. Reavers don't have a minimum rank, also do splash, and move very slow. The zealots both tank damage for the reavers, draw splash if you aren't microing perfectly and do melee damage to the tanks.
Hey, I'm kinda new to the game. I finished the brood war campaing a couple of weeks ago and I've been amazed watching these casts. I have a question, why there aren't many ZvsZ, TvsT or PvsP matches? Are they uncommon? Are they avoided?
Mirror matches tend to be, put simply, less fun. When both sides have the exact same arsenal, the play and counterplay becomes much simpler and less exciting. Artosis chooses games to cast based ultimately on what he and the audience want to watch, and so we see less of the ZvZ, TvT, and PvP matchups.
ZvZ is the most boring matchup in the game, and PvP is only marginally better. TvT is just about controlling the middle of the map with tanks to deny expansions/movement + some dropship play
-There very little pro "slots" and it's 1v1, so to be a pro You have to be a absolute killer. Plenty of competitons have pros that are considered not that good. - It's a knowledge intensive Game, and no patches means that there's no big resets to catch up. - it doesnt require a great deal physical fitness, so performance doesnt decay rapidly with age. - Not sure on this one but this Game looks quite Time consuming to remain in top shape, if you have been a pro for several years, you probably don't have a good plan B so there's a Big incentive to keep your slot.
dearest arr tea of the paw tea, first of all, i wish you defecate pleasantly. second, shouldn't a 55% winrate strategy with a ~7 minute average game climb the ladder better than a 60% winrate strategy with a 20 minute average game? as a lower rank player, the idea that cheese isn't super common at high levelsbefuddles me
the estimation for workers mine rate for terrans is about 65 per minute for minerals at optimal mining efficiency. so before he even got to the bunker he had lost a few hundred minerals in mining time alone. then lost another couple of hundred in mining time sitting at the bunker and if the repair ratio is the same as sc2 which is about 25% max cost for a total repair then it would be about 25 minerals per health bar those scvs healed so he probably lost another couple of hundred on that... you cant let that gas get stolen and even worse if its a proxy with it
As terran on a two player map like this it's standard at high level play to have your gas be stolen in Brood War. You COULD prevent the gas steal but you sacrifice too much to do so since the probe comes out so fast and knows where you are. The only pro I recall actively preventing the gas steal was Sharp in an asl season a year or two ago, but he abandoned that in the SSL and did fine (2nd place).
Artosis keeps saying how pros NEED to get zealot speed as quick as possible, so they all just collectively decided to f*ck with him and find ways to steamroll without it anyway.

@@NealX_Gaming ya they were stuck in the goon cave, not gooning on those tanks they were gooning on themselves in the goon cave yeah
This thanksgiving I'm thankful for all the chills we felt throughout the year.
I love seeing pros from different skill tiers. It really makes me appreciate top players even more.
Just imagine being a vulture doing burnouts in the neighbourhood when the sergeant is not watching and then you see this angry zealot following you like he had a bad monday trying to scratch your coolest bike with his psi blades.
lol
god i fucking love having vultures vs zealots, makes vultures feel so strong u just kite and shit on all of them

“Both these guys are OBVIOUSLY very good.”
Ouch

Hey Artosis, when you were confused about Hiya's production around 7:30, he hit the 52/52 supply block HARD.
I will forever love Hiya for the gift he gave us in his game vs Free on Triathlon.
14:38 10 SCV kills one scarab.
The guy in the comments wants a Flash game.
I don't, but nice try
@@ShadowCoH316 why do even watch Brood war. Go fap to league
Flash vs Soulkey in next ssl finals
I just want chills

It's good to see these games.
10:24 We completely missed the drop with the reaver/zealots going into the terran expo and that gave me chills
I haven't played since 1998 and the way you're talking about this Terran makes me think i could beat him lol
Those Marines got confused as to which one's the Gateway.
Excellent post-game analysis, don't ever stop doing those!

this guy is on 10 SCVs vs 4 base P and doesnt GG :D classic terran xD
He should have made a cc-first. Then he would still have the advantage after using 5 scvs to defend against zealots.
Arty!! Dod you draw that snail for us??? :)
Yes arty.. keep zooming out
Who doesn't love Hiya? I still remember those ghosts again Free!
Thanks for the breakdown. Good cast
Arty serving up chills on thanksgiving
SS Bros Melee might be as hard as sc1 to break into.
Everybody is a "strong up and coming protoss player" nowadays
8:43 he killed 2 tanks not 3...the one in the base was still alive
If he scanned the stargate he couldve targetted that single pylon on the edge of the cliff with his siege tanks
But what about the guy in the comments?
He couldn't make it because he had the chills
No legs - no chills!
No way it's harder then baseball lol.
It depends on definition and somewhat how correct the numbers are but:
Soccer: around 150 000 pro players
Baseball: around 20 000 pro players in the world
Open-wheel car racing (i.e. F1): 2 000-3 000 professionals
Brood War: 2 000-3 000 pro players in it's *26 year history*
So if we go by absolute numbers, Brood War is _orders of mangnitude_ harder to become a "pro" in.
If we go by professionals / population of countries with pro teams, baseball also loses out:
Brood War 0.048%

I need more Artosis + Flash + Jaedong. Just saying.

Why no mirror match?
Why does he consistently drops reaver on top of siege tanks along with zealots?
Tanks have a minimum range where they stop hitting in there, and the other tanks do splash damage if they hit a unit next to the tank. Reavers don't have a minimum rank, also do splash, and move very slow. The zealots both tank damage for the reavers, draw splash if you aren't microing perfectly and do melee damage to the tanks.
@ isn’t it a waste of Reavers? They die quickly, barely shooting at all
Startosis!!!
Dat zealot
did you draw that snail yourself?

Oof
the hardest new scene to break into is melee imo but broodwar is second
Broodwar is absolutely more difficult than melee
@sommigame nope
Honestly ask s2j what he thinks is harder since he's also a broodwar player.
@dustinjoho4985 s2j is very cool
Yes and chess requires more APM than Brood war.
Reavers are just unfair! Yet more Protoss IMBA-ness
They're like a much slower siege tank that often misses, costs money to shoot with less range! And you can't repair it. Protoss imba!!!
