I don't think he ever said that the first person to get to 5 points would be the winner. He only said that the maximum number of points one player could get was 5. And then he joked that if all 3 of them had 5 points and he was still asking questions something had gone wrong...
He used to have the world record for the most jokes told in one hour...in fact I think he still holds it as the bloke who took the record later on was disqualified.
You're not wrong. I enjoy these shows though, and I'd rather more shows like this so that maybe-just maybe-they'll stop chasing the Robin Williams dream shoe-horning comedians into movie acting roles they're ill fit for.
