I'm back once again with another reaction to the lovely young nature goddess, Diana Ankudinova! This time, I am listening to and watching her performance of "The Crow" (Ворона). As always, I find myself being enchanted, hypnotized, put into a trance but the combination of her vocal performance while singing, her costume and set choices, the lighting, and the body movements of both Diana and her backup dancers. This actually might be my favorite song of hers yet - which is saying a lot!

Diana is the white crow, not like the others. She walks up the ramp as the crow would fly into the air above the others, as they follow her. At the end she is covered in black so I see that as acceptance. This is the kind of music that Diana was built for. She's almost her own genre. Shamanic, folk pop? Regardless what you want to call it, it's spectacular.
Russian song writer maksim fadeev is genius. Google for say “serebro dishi” and watch the clip. Song is again written by him. He wrote lots of trance like meditational songs.

This young lady makes me feel things every time she performs. What an amazing and creative performance. Diana is such a risk taker and that is what makes her great!
Yes it is a cover. Did you notice the look on her face throughout the song, she means business, she looks like she has a seething vendetta against someone and she’s going to get even?
She’s the only one dressed in white because she is the white crow, I guess like the spirit of nature she is in white and she’s gunning for the human destroyers of her world sending out her minions at her command. I don’t know if any of this has any reality in the song but that’s the vibe I’m getting! And at the very end of the song when she does that quick forceful staring head turn, LOOK OUT!!
PS. Diana is a consummate performer half of the enjoyment in her performance is her presentation and skill as an actor, becoming the role.
She would make I believe, a superb actress also.

Diana's version is shorter, denser and, in my opinion, more successful. And yes, I agree with you. In this performance, everything came together - the song, and the performance, and the ballet, and Diana's shamanism.

P.S. There is a physical reason that Diana is hypnotic/entrancing. She sings with polyphonic overtones, which are especially noticeable when she holds and resonates her low notes.

Hard to have one single favorite cover from Diana because she's done so many mind blowing covers, Crow is damn addictive at the moment though and as a stage performance it's spectacular in every respect, that final shot would make a killer album cover. You've yet to hear any of her original material, should check out her latest single "Duduk", as her album is due out in 20 days.
Nobody on earth I'd pay more to hear and see perform than Diana Ankudinova. If not for the world's delusional "health" crisis I'd have applied for a Russian visa and flown already and I know I'm not alone.

In Russian, "white crow" is an idiom with the meaning "not like everyone else". At Diana's song, the White Crow stands out among ordinary gray crows for its ability to sing. When the White Crow was covered with a black cloak in the final scene, she lost her uniqueness and stopped singing! But the TV directors hid the finale, leaving only a close-up where Dana looks back at the black cloak that covered her. The essence of the song "Crow":
It is obvious that the world is on the wrong track. Therefore, the rivers no longer flow, and the only sounds are the "singing" of volcanoes. The world is at the very edge. One more step, and that's it, complete and hopeless emptiness. Only the performer sees herself as "White Crow". She goes against the crowd frozen in place, looking for her own way in life. Thank you for such positive reaction to Diana. She's a star. This is quite an old Russian song, which was a big hit in 1996. It was composed by the great Russian composer and producer Max Fadeyev. And the performer was a Russian singer Linda. The original video may be easily found on youtube. Linda's performance was also great, but her voice is quite usual.

In the original, the crow was not white, so it was a mixture of characters. In Russian culture, the crow: 1 - represents wisdom, because it lives for a long time; 2 - the companion of a witch; 3 - a bird that flies over the battlefield, looking for a victim, it eats carrion, sometimes eats those who have not died yet.
4 - "white crow", Diana's version. This can be called simply because of any difference (for example, to come to the beach in an official suit or everyone in the class listens to rap, and the "white crow" loves opera), but more often this phrase is used if someone has other beliefs, their principles.
