One correction: Sachin was not from a "wealthy" upper caste family. His father had four children, was a salaried employee (a college professor, teaching Marathi literature, not exactly a STEM subject). His mother was an insurance agent (again, not exactly a very high earning vocation in India). Secondly, "caste" wasn't a consideration for team selection, so Sachin wasn't a product of casteist favoritism. Case in point: Sachin's classmate, Vinod Kambli, was from a so called lower caste family, but found a place in the Indian team anyway. He couldn't hold on to that spot due to injuries and a drinking (and discipline) problem.
The general description is very ignorant though to the point of a lie to build false narrative especially because "upper" and "lower" caste is not a set thing, you can pretty much change the definition as you want as he seems to be doing. @gobimurugesan2411 SC ST make up ~20 % of the population, and OBC is made up criteria and every state has its own rule about who is backward and who is not. It's a big mess. Either way 70% is a joke, if you want to feel like a victim no one can help you, but caste does not affect cricket much. There are plenty of players from all communities in the team and IPL.
What a phenomenal explainer video. I was a bit disappointed at first that the video didn't dive into any of the specifics of over or rules that dictate *why* T20 is 3 hours vs ODIs or Test matches, but honestly, you did such a good job focusing on the history and international narrative that the sports fan in me didn't even mind. Keep up the great work Search Party
The very short version: 1. One innings in T20 lasts until you lose 10 wickets or play 120 balls (20 6-ball "overs"*, hence the name T20). Each team plays one inning. 2. One innings in an ODI lasts until you lose 10 wickets or play 300 balls (50 6-ball "overs"). Each team plays one inning. Longer innings = longer games. 3. Both teams play two innings in a test match. There's no ball limit on an innings, but the match ends in a draw if no one wins by the end of five days of cricket. *Each over consists of 6 balls, bowled by one player. The same player cannot bowl two consecutive overs. There are 2 batsmen on the field at any time and they rotate strike at the end of each over.
Made some generalisations that are wrong: Aussie rules football is a winter sport and cricket is a summer sport so they’ve never competed with each other. Aussie rules and rugby fans typically play and watch cricket during summer

You got India's map wrong. I know that we have some disputed territories with Pakistan and China, but except for those territories, you have other Indian territories marked as disputed. The small state of "Himachal Pradesh" where I live, is excluded from the map. A small mistake you might be unaware of so i thought I should point it out. Great Video though.
You were wrong about that. He mentioned most runs by a player in the history of cricket ever, currently Virat Kohli is on 26,000 runs and Sachin Tendulkar has made 34,000+ runs. He still hasn't broke Sachin's record but time will arrive when he will.

As big as cricket is becoming in India, it has become cancerous to overall sports environment in India This is the reason India lacks so behind in Olympics even though having the most people in the world. Cricket is given TOO much importance here

Unnecessary caste comments are simply shitty.Caste and religion are cross cutting when it comes to supporting Indian players and the Indian cricket team.Nonsense!
Idk why you are emphasizing on Caste sooooooo much, it's not a big deal here in India, especially in cricket, Indian cricket is strictly a meritocracy and has been for a long time, the so called "lower caste" players have been playing for the Indian team since the early 1920s, even becoming captains of the team later on. Stop portraying India as some kind of backward caste based society. Oh and also Sachin Tendulkar was definitely not from a wealthy, he was from a very ordinary humble background and i don't know or care what his caste is. The upper caste lower caste thing is just a narrative created by the west, the upper castes are not wealthy oppressors, most of them are poor or middle class in incomes and neither are the lower castes some oppressed marginalized community, they have a similar standard of living to most upper caste people that being middle class and ordinary.
How many lower caste people in main squad ??? Caste matters buddy. acknowledge your privilege. You are saying all this nonsense because you never faced casteism. It is not about financial situation it is about social situation. Sachin and kambli are the example of this. both did not came from strong financial support. But one become a god. Believe or not in some way caste helped him a lot. In eyes of elite management , elite investors and sponsors.
@@jediknight8738 how many lower caste people are out of the squad simple because they are lower caste is the real question. Why would you want someone who's not good enough in the team simply because they're from a specific caste? Idk why you are trying to show that there is some kind of grand conspiracy and systematic oppression in play here, there isn't. Kambli literally got so many opportunities, he couldn't perform, the fact that he did play for the country is proof that casteism isn't at play here. Just accept that Indian cricket is a meritocracy and whoever plays well gets opportunities regardless of their caste and if they stay in the team or not is purely based in their performance.
@@daanishsumbre7171 Higher caste = on average more money = on average more opportunities. If you're too busy working to provide, then where will there be time to play cricket? And vice versa. There's a reason things like affirmative action existed in America, and there's a reason Americans talk about it so much. It has very real consequences that are often overlooked. It's not a critique of India, just something that needs to be mentioned when discussing socioeconomic matters concerning India. In the study "Wealth inequality, class, and caste in India: 1961-2012" it is very easily seen that lower castes have a disproportionately lesser household income. The caste system is not as prevalent as it used to be, that much is certain, but its consequences are certainly not vanished. Even though it was many many years ago, the effects of it are still seen in India today, just like the effects of the caste system are seen in India today as well.

LOL I think you could say cricket has always been bigger than the NFL.. just Americans only cottoned to how big it is now - like they have with F1 and football. Of course the football World Cup remains the GOAT.
I’m from Canada and while American Football, basketball and baseball are big here, it is no where near as big as Cricket, Soccer & F1. Many Americans (even some Canadians) are in denial that they don’t accept anything that isn’t popular with them or understand, so they like to downplay them lol it’s pathetic

Connecting Indian cricket with upper cast is completely wrong because atleast after independence Indian cricket team is running by those who deserve it by talent not by cast
Chief, the point is that people from higher castes have historically enjoyed greater social/economic benefits from their social hierarchy, people from upper classes/castes have had the time and money to dedicate to being a full time sportsperson as opposed to those from lower castes/economic backgrounds. Sure the caste based discrimination might not be as intense today in most parts of the country but centuries of discrimination still have a large impact in the inequality of our society.

@@ChoCoMoCo69 Exactly this is what I am trying to say, but I know that how Western media and movies represent India they show us like the country of poor, uncivilized
Prior to T20, New Zealand had a format called Cricket Max which was, for all intents and purposes, the precursor to the condensed format we have now - the one difference being a more equally enhanced set of rules for both batsman and bowlers, rather than the batting heavy game we have today. Great vid!
Poor Indians need to focus on increasing per capita which is only 2600$ rather than doing this nonsense india has the most poor and hungry people living in this world and reduce population and slums
I genuienly think T20 would be more complete if we had 10 over innings over 4 innings. Similar to Test cricket, but in this way both teams can get accustomed to the pitch and not get a big advantage.
Yeah, he completely glossed over the role of Australia and how the development of the sport in Aus wasn’t based on class like it was in England - indeed, he effectively to the US political lens and collapsed all of those politics into a simplistic category of it being “run by white men” in Australia, which isn’t a particularly useful (or actually accurate).
100%, didn't suit his narrative. Australia/Packer's overhaul of cricket, both test and ODIs made it possible to watch cricket on TV and help promote it to the masses. Ch9 coverage revolutionised how sports were broadcasts, whether new scores, gadgets. This all helped other broadcasters around the world improve their standards. This in turn got more people to watch the game. T20 is just the latest vehicle in a game that is still evolving. IPL is beast that will eventually eat itself through corruption and exclusion of better international players. It's broadcast must already tow the party line and eventually if it creates a furore, either politically or a prominent player taking a stand in the public arena, things will turn very quickly because of heavy handed nature of how BCCI is run. PS: the 1st country to permit t20 comp and teams to have the best open market, limited restrictions will dominate the field and have best TV ratings/market and monies
India have won one world cup. Change the title to "Why Australia dominates India, a country with 1.4 billion cricket-mad citizens". The fact that India aren't better at cricket than they are has to be one of the world's greatest mysteries.
7:59 What is this obsession with the 'caste system' in the west? It's one of those stereotypes about Indians and Hindus which is just so absurd and ridiculous in itself. To claim that cricket is still dominated by upper castes and that lower castes have a low representation is an evidence for the prevalence of the 'caste system' is just laughable. Cricketers, or any other sport players in India for that sake, are selected on the basis of their merit, and not their caste. Therefore the question of over or under-representation is just a matter of coincidence, because we value 'equality of opportunity', and not 'equality of outcome'. And frankly nobody even cares about it other than bheemtas, a section of leftists and commies and of course, the western media which loves to patronize India on every single freakin issue.
It is a bit of a shame that test cricket is dying out. Sure, T20 is more exciting, but test cricket is unique among modern sports. It's not focused on entertainment or selling a product. It's a sport at heart.
Honey I think you have Google right? Just search 🔎 no1 country in all formats. And ICC is literally run now by India. It's like Europe or Britain almost controls football but rarely won World Cup. Does that make any sense to you.
This video should have been just about the IPL . You have tried to fit in way too much information in such a short video . Moreover , Fix the Indian Map . I'm from Jammu ( the are you greyed in India's North ) and we are Indians
What a phenomenal video. Very informative. Though, I’d like to add one point with the rise of cricket 🏏, there was the rise of BCCI. The Indian cricket board has its own rags to riches story, starting with the ODI World Cup and ending with IPL. At first, the board was actually paying for broadcasting of test matches, and even some ODI matches. Now, they sold the rights to IPL for ₹23 crores. And India will probably win the World Cup too.
One problem with the name of your channel...when said aloud for voice search... it comes back only searching videos related to party. .. lots of things i was NOT looking for..... ooops. Thanks for interesting content.

Made some generalisations that are wrong:
Aussie rules football is a winter sport and cricket is a summer sport so they’ve never competed with each other. Aussie rules and rugby fans typically play and watch cricket during summer

It's the same way India is poorer than it should be because of British rule. Even though it was many many years ago, the effects of it are still seen in India today, just like the effects of the caste system are seen in India today as well.

Similar to Test cricket, but in this way both teams can get accustomed to the pitch and not get a big advantage.
ummmm you missed Kerry Packer’s massive input and influence on the success of ODI’s??

In India, politics is dominated by pressure groups. Every community has it some way or another.
