Alisson Krause the perfect picture of Grace and Beauty, teamed with Robert Plant the aging incrediably well Rocker. So much talent on one stage. Life long memories created for those in attendance. Wish I was there.
Fantastic performance! "I'm in the Mood" was the song that hooked me on Robert Plant. Had no idea at the time he had been the front man of Led Zeppelin. Allison Krauss sings like an angel. Love them together!
Have this song on TH-cam from Bonnaroo, it was an AWESOME show! In the Mood is my fav Robert song from the early 80's. And I love the folkie Mattie Groves with it, just incredible. Your vid is so much closer up, great! Seeing them again in Dallas in one week in a venue like this one, cannot WAIT!!!
GREAT harmony!!! Fiddle just makes the song!!!!!! They should get MARRIED..... have kids and their voices would be the best thing to happen to music in 100 years :)
@taylor6087 Actually, Plant has been a great singer since the 60s. In the pre-Led Zeppelin band, Band of Joy, he was already singing harmonies and did so with himself and others like Sandy Denny of Fairport Convention long ago. Seems that many posters know Allison Krause, but not Robert Plant.
@bpfsears1 Some Zep songs were very folkish, especially on that third and fourth album. But Page also invented riffs based on Middle Eastern music. Check out the 1994 album (and dvd) "Unledded." But Matty Groves was first done (as a traditional song( by the first British electric folk-rock band Fairport Convention. Sandy Denny was and still is a well loved singer with the most incredible voice. She could sing subtle like Allison, but then show power that Allison does not have.
@CheapSushi You ought to hear Dave Swarbrick's fiddle on the original Fairport Convention version where Sandy Denny sings and Richard Thompson plays electric guitar. No comparison...
You saw Fairport you think this is better? These are two great vocalists, but even Robert Plant only ever had invited one female singer on a Zeppelin album! (and yes I saw Fairport with Sandy).
@taylor6087 If you knew their full repetoire, you' d know that Plant has harmonized in the past. He was doing it way back in the 60s with Band of Joy. I know what harmonizing is..... studied music and have been recorded - once upon a time. I think that Plant was as he usually has been for a long time, giving credit and downplaying himself. He can afford to be generous. Not to take away from Allison Krause or the wonderful singing they do together.
Kraus does Sandy Denny proud. Matty Groves I think could really rock played a certain way however (not even FC could do that imo). Are there any real rocking versions of Matty Groves?
Yeah, the only thing missing from this is RT...but at least they got my main man Buddy Miller. He is the rock & foundation of this style of americana music. Well, he & Bill Frisell.
Who the Fuck made you the All Knowing Critic God?. These are both incredible ARTISTS..This is freakin' more ART than even MUSIC!. You make it sound like Plant was singing this with the Jonas Brothers OR Mylie Cyrus. This is a PERFECT compilation sound..Out "Fairports" Fairport in my book!...Show's Plant is BETTER than ever! Stifle yourself Edith!
@CWSiler All that means is that you were exposed to his solo stuff first because of your age and then backlogged. I think many fans have done that unless they are an old crank like me.
And don't anyone get me wrong, their album is wonderful and I enjoy Allison Krause a great deal. With Plant's remarkable voice and ability their paring was a great idea. But Plant is many times the superstar compared to Allison Krause. I am glad that he did this with her, proving what a remarkable range and ability he has always had.
That's true. I just don't like her voice on this very English song, sounds odd to me, and to be honest I'm just a bit annoyed that Plant doesn't really make music that I love any more (not for a long time) when he has made so much that I did love in the past. Johnny Cash could have covered this....
@CheapSushi Heh, heh, I wouldn't be at all surprised if several sperm banks are stocked with Plants' dna. But your cute idea is a good compliment to both.
God that's awful. Never has a song had a less approriate voice singing it as that version of Matty Groves. I like to think I'm fairly open-minded about music, and I love rock and folk and even some country, but that was terrible. How the mighty have fallen!
Alison is the perfect foil for Roberts continuing voyage through musical styles . Long may they both wander in harmony
Alisson Krause the perfect picture of Grace and Beauty, teamed with Robert Plant the aging incrediably well Rocker. So much talent on one stage. Life long memories created for those in attendance. Wish I was there.
I Love Robert Plant & Allison Krauss
IN THE MOOD was the song that got me into Robert Plant in the early 80's. I was a Plant fan before I was a Zep fan.......believe it or not!

Real music. Real class.
Nice to see Fairport Convention version of Matty Groves getting some recognition.
"In the Mood" is the song that got me (more than) barefoot and pregnant. Glad I could share.

Alison playing with her favorite fiddle player and friend, Bluegrass legend Stuart Duncan.
Didn't know she did a version of Mattie Groves. Go for it Ali
Damn it, Robert; I was in the mood for the rest of Matty Groves
I've had sleepless nights.......but I can't imagine a nightless sleep..must've been hell!!

There was no one like Dave Swarbrick! Everything he did was magic to my ears.

Krauss is the star
Any song you want to sing!!!...:)O(:...

Kraussy when are you playing Cropredy?! x
The most rocking version of Matty Groves was when Maartin Alcock was with Fairport
You cannot beat Fairport’s version of this!
Yeah, the only thing missing from this is RT...but at least they got my main man Buddy Miller. He is the rock & foundation of this style of americana music. Well, he & Bill Frisell.
Correction - the other thing that is missing is Dave Swarbrick on fiddle. There was no one like him!

is that John Cale on bass ?

@surreal12 I agree. Alison's voice sounds nice here but this is FAR from an an improvement!

bob gibson did a great version of mattiie groves... solo and with bob camp
plus jay bellerose, the best drummer ever.
I just realized that Led Zeppelin was a Celtic Rock band...thanks

Ah Hell Naw!! Me no likey dis heah
... milking it ... stick with Fairport Convention's version ...
Calm down, just expressing an opinion...
The song was is great. Why would you do this and make it an average song?
Wake up Robert! You are way too old for her
