    Much respect to Herr. Doepfer for having the foresight to develop a system that has grown and expanded in so many inventive ways... possibly beyond what he may have even imagined. A true pioneer in the world of synthesis - and a gentleman.

    I love the way Dieter still gets excited about the details of electronics after all these years. This is not someone treading water, money-focused, or otherwise checked out.

    Thank you very much! It was a lot of fun and indeed a rare opportunity to sit together and talk like that for a while :-) See you at Superbooth!!!

      Yes I second that, all that intermediary (not a middle man but something much more reputable!) Yes! You are a sort of catalyst that serves to unify the group!

    It is so awesome listening to Mr Dieter talk about the electronic design of modules. Man would I love to have an apprenticeship under him.

    I bought one of the first Doepfer Eurorack systems in the UK, around 96/97? It worked perfectly and integrated with other mini-jack type systems, like the Roland 100M. Doepfer is the godfather of modern modular for sure, even Buchla 200E would never have happened IMO without Doepfer trailblazing the way.

    • @zyklen
      @zyklen 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Chris Whitten out of interest where did you purchase your system? Ask as I managed a London store which had the first few Eurorack systems in UK on demo at that time...

      @labestia8099 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 200e was designed by Don Buchla, and is in a completely different format from Doepfer. Dieter had nothing to do with the realization of the 200e series. Don started designing modules in the 60s, long before Dieter ever started Doepfer Musikelekronik. They aren’t comparable, nor did Dieter influence the production of the 200e series.

    • @AshBashVids
      @AshBashVids 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@labestia8099 The popularity of modular once again, which Dieter played a large part, helped influence it. The 200e series simply would have not be released if that taste for modular was not reignited.
      It's the same with Moog and Roland now too, which also have released modules. Moog even rereleased it's large format moog modular series. All because Doepfer decided to take a risk and make a cheap modular format back in the mid-90s...

    • @ChrisWhittenMusic
      @ChrisWhittenMusic 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Couldn't agree more. I was talking about the resurgence of modular in the 90's and 2000's, which in my view DIRECTLY lead to Buchla having the confidence to offer the 'E' modules.@@AshBashVids

    I appreciate Doepfer sticking with mostly thru-hole for his stated reasons but also being OK with using SMD on some of the modern modules, especially the new poly stuff. The feature density of the A-111-4 for instance, is really something for how small the module is, as Felix brought up.

    Great video, much usefull info for me. I wasn't aware of the SMD and throughole split designs on my two Doepfer modules for instance.
    Imagine that Pieter's stompboxes and amps all worked perfectly back than, nice butterfly effect.

    Thank you for the good and informative interview .Two questions that I have .Firstly . Does modular hardware go out of tune ? Secondly .I have REACTOR 6.3 , SOFTUBE MODULAR and VOLTAGE MODULAR software .Out of these three I find that Voltage modular is what I am getting the best sounds from and with much greater ease .The other two I struggle with some what. Even though they have similarities .I would like to gravitate to hardware and am trying to learn future hardware from software .Does Voltage modular mirror hardware well or is it more toward semi modular ? Thank you .

    Doepfer is a great company. Please don't use SMDs all too often. It is great to understand what is going on by looking at it. Also production quality is comparatively high. Don't change that. It's not necessary. I would like to see more control modules and a useful analogue pitch shifter.
