- I take full advantage of my increased time limit to show off a toy that just cant be covered in a mere 10... but it's got this strange affect on me, I actually... like it? So what's there to like about the biggest brick since G1?

TakaraTomy needs to get to work on a Masterpiece Unicron Trilogy (Armada, Energon and Cybertron) toyline.

A Unicron Trilogy themed year for Generations would be neat too. A great gimmick would be an ultimate Optimus fusion method, with Overload, Jetfire, Wingsaber, and Leobreaker.
Please just let them rerelease every single Cybertron toy that appeared in the show. Every single Cybertron figure is good, even the crappy ones like Backstop, Undermine and Thunderblast.

Why hasn't anyone bought a pair of Wing Sabers to use all the blue or all the red pieces to make even more armed/ winged modes
Because Wing Saber is ridiculously rare/expensive these days, and not everyone wants to blow money on a toy that is incomplete without buying another pricey toy. Not to mention if someone has one of each already, then why blow the money on a duplicate just to match colors when the one in question is limited and pricey. Besides, these two probably never get played with by anyone anymore, sure they make a fantastic figure together, but who really makes it a point to pick up figures from the Unicron Trilogy to play with them?
I mean, yeah, I still tinker with my Armada Bricktimus Prime, but that's because I usually have him displayed by my computer desk in plain view. You're more likely to pick up one of your smaller, cheaper toys to fiddle with since you spent so little on it. Something to tinker with that you aren't worried about breaking if it does, something cheap, decent, fun to transform, and all that lies between. In my case, I'd say Cybertron Ransack, and Generations Warpath fit those descriptions pretty well. The former more than the latter.

Overall - likely left to gather dust apart from changing the pose a bit maybe once every couple of years, or make room for another addition to the collection.
So, um, yeah, didn't really answer my question at all. We're already spending the money, might as well splurge.
Well, perhaps with how few actually exist since plenty probably didn't buy him for various reasons, such as the price at the time, or knowing someone that had one, perhaps it's an honorable choice? Obviously something is rare when little of it exist, so maybe no one has bought two since its' rarity would make it just that much harder to acquire for some. In short, owning two of something rare, unless it's for the sake of owning one boxed version, and one unboxed version (sometimes), seems a bit greedy, unlike with some more common, or cheaper toys and/or collectibles.
That makes sense as an answer for me, anyway.
I wouldn't mind a second Wingsaber for that purpose but I waited around 10 moths for one to come available on TFSource so I'll stick with the 1 I have
It's always weird getting a comment on something I said several years ago since I have to refresh myself. I tend to memorize selectively useful things, though, so I can answer this fairly well.
At the time I commented there were only three Wing Sabers on Ebay, one boxed, two opened. The boxed one was roughly $160, and the used ones were $110, and $83 respectively, with the more expensive being complete aside for the box, and the former being a bit incomplete.
After a recent Ebay search, it seems he's a bit more available now than he was at the time of the comment, but he's by no means a common figure, still. If you go on there there's two American listings in the box, One listed as brand new with a bid setup currently at $51, and one listed as pre-owned, yet saying there are four available at $119 each with a total of two listings, and five boxed American versions available. There's even some Japanese boxed Wing Sabers available now as well, something not seen back when I typed the comment, with five listings, and I presume more than five available, not to mention with some spare parts here, and there such as a manual, a replacement clear red blaster, and even two opened figures that include the collector's card.
If I were to place price labels on the figure today, I'd say it's roughly the same as it was back then, though with slightly more lenient pricing as it seems more are in available stock than in 2017 when I wrote my comment, and even more than in 2009 when the original video was made. I'd say boxed copies would go for $110 to $160, while opened would go from $80 to $100 roughly.
He's still a pricey figure to get one of, let alone two, and I still stand by my feelings of not buying more than one unless you want one sealed, and one opened, as he is still very rare, though uncertain if he is as sought after as he has been prior.
Two toys that I never wanted can now combine into something slightly more desirable but twice as expensive. Awesome!

The downfall of Wingsabre is that he tries to be two things at once which can greatly limit a Transformer's design ; Apex armour for another figure, and massive homage to an older design. If he was either one or the other he actually might have turned out pretty great.
Preferably the latter.
The main downfall of Wing Saber is just him being armor for Optimus. While it's a cool function, and it's his best looking mode by leaps and bounds, it also kills all his articulation and severely limits his altmode. Speaking of the altmode, a flying wing bomber was a terrible choice of altmode for him. Considering he needs to be armor for Optimus, that naturally means he's bulky by necessity. This is like if you took TFP Sound wave, who's super slim and sleek for his stealth plane altmode, and built him like a musclebound goon. It just wouldn't work. If they were going to have a bulky figure, make him a generic sci-fi ship, like the actual Star Saber. That way, they could work the bulk in.
it can still defend itself from backstop's knee breaker gimmick. #potusmanussyndrome
id love to see hasbro give this mold one more shot in the generations line where he gets one MASSIVE update i think he deserves it for being a giant brick

I almost bought that toy when I was eleven. As for those things that become the upper arms, they look like the warp nacelles on a "Star Trek" ship
Since in order for Wing Saber to powerlink with Optimus Prime, he needs the connections that the Prime Force (Prime's drones) have. And I saw a video of Energon Omega Supreme linking up with the Prime Force. (There are ports for them to connect to him). So, I bet if you do a combined Review of Prime, Wing Saber and Omega Supreme to demonstrate their strengths and weaknesses as well as show all of the ways they can powerlink together. Please do it as an episode of Plastic Addict.

I agree with you totally man...I own this toy too, and everytime I wind up playing with it, I note over and over again how crappy it is as a toy...and yet I just. Can't. Stop. Despite having almost no good traits from a critical design stand point, it's so damn fun to play with...

every time i see someone with this toy i wanted to cry.i wanted it so bad and online always out just like my store until the line was finished and now the toy is to much for me to buy T^T
Yeah, the fear I had was people would think the parody began and ended with Gollum, but it's the whole video, not only the ending but the beginning, too.
This toy has few glaring FLAWS, not only a few glaring POSITIVES
He could use Strongarm's axe against a Mini-Con or to trip up Tidal Wave...
It's vehicle mode reminds me of the Mega Winger from PRiS or Megaranger. Wing Saber was the main one I wanted from the Energon line but I could never find him anywhere.
He can probably use Strongarm's axe or Cruellox's sword... IDK

I wonder how many people have made this comparison before but, it's like old school Power Ranger megazords. The Dragonzord did almost nothing without the Megazord. And the Delta Megazord did almost nothing without the AstroMegazord to combine with.

the Wing Saber toys were never terrible, ok energon wing saber's jet was crap, but so were a lot of energon vehicles.

If you had 2 energon Optimus prime figures and 2 energon wing saber figures then you can have Optimus figure with wing mode arms and legs, while the other Optimus figure with blast mode arms and legs.
Cybertron one was better even though it didn't homage star saber. But the combined form with Optimus definitely looked like Victory Saber

If you get a Generations Scourge, There the concept of Flying wing works.
Just as Armada Overload and Energon Ultra Magnus do he look good and very likable but almost totally worthless as a toy or a posing decoration. They are Bricks that look good as dust collectors on the shelfs

Do you have Cybertron OP and a version of the Cybertron Wing Saber mold? If not you should really get those. Alone for them selves both are awesome but combined they are amazing. I have Movie (2007) AllSpark Wingblade combined with OP and they look so cool.

Actually, in Artillery Mode, it looks more like he's wearing clown shoes.
If I redesigned this toy he'll be an f-117 or a space shuttle orbiter and have about as much articulation as g1 star saber.

Well, not exactly... Wing Saber in Cybertron was actually one of the better figures, well articulated, lots of features and a great combination with Optimus, arguably better then Optimus with himself
If I redesigned Energon wing saber, then he'd be a yf-23,x-32,or a f-18.
Remember what they say, crap toy begets crap toy. While Energon Prime may be one of the worst Primes ever, it's got some variation going for it, but again, to take another crap toy like Energon Wing Saber to give the guy some proportion is not the best way to go.
