I know this video is reeeeally old, but I was rewatching it for funsies, and I just realized something. One complaint you had in the beginning was how the "car" mode looks almost nothing like Hot Shot, mentioning that the details in the front were off. Then you mentioned how the front is made up of multiple cheating blocks. They're using cheating blocks to begin with, yet they still didn't even bother to make it look like Hot Shot. That is 2 levels of lazy design right there.
Because on Thundercracker there was no place to hide the head, so it might as well be left off instead of sticking it somewhere idiotic. But on Hot Shot they didn't even do that, they didn't even try to find a place for it, which is worse when there was a perfect spot inside the toy's vehicle mode to store it away. In both situations, they solved the same issue in the worst way they had available to them.
I remember when I got the exclusive AoE Grimlock and Silver Knight OP set, being excited, then having the rubber ball on Grimlock's arm get sheared off completely
My kid brother got this for a birthday once when he was little, and I played a large part in constructing it. The thing is, I found all the same flaws that you did, and I was only seven at the time! Whoever gave the go-ahead for this line deserves to be buried in a mountain of these failures...
@espio708 Afraid not, I demonstrated it just as it's shown in the instructions. That piece is the same that all Armada BTRs use to mount their Minicons in vehicle mode to replicate how they work on normal Armada toys, so it's not made just for Jolt. It's silly since they're Lego toys and they peg in regardless, but I used it as it was meant in the video.
I’m surprised Hasbro hasn’t actually asked LEGO to make Transformers. Many actual LEGO builders have made working LEGO Transformers. Some are even legends class. Seriously, google LEGO Transformers.
I actually reviewed her already and described her as almost Addict-worthy, I gave her points for a good vehicle mode and an alien design that almost worked, unlike Demolishor's.
I distinctly remember buying BTR sets when I was younger and NEVER seeing this one. My Walmart took one look at this toy and said "No. No, we draw the line here. No." Also Megatron.
@GenericSupervillain3 Not in perspective. Hot Shot's leftover parts in robot mode equal about 50% of the blocks that made his vehicle mode, my Kre-O Optimus has more parts left over by number, but really only leaves less than 5% of his parts unused in robot mode. I don't know if it's true for the smaller sets but that has been my experience.
@Stavekoff The instructions dont indicate what to do with those parts, or indicate things that are better done a different way. I'm specifically referring to the designers choosing to leave parts like the head off the vehicle mode or the helicopter blade in a bad direction when it takes little thought to make them better.
Also: The yellow of Hot Shot's head is completely different from the rest of his body. If they molded it in the same yellow and painted the facial details, that wouldn't be an issue, now would it?
@sleeplessknight99 That's kind of an unfair judgement I think, I've reviewed the large scale Kre-O Optimus and found it an amazing improvement over BTR, they're designed far more like a licensed Lego set and function really well as building toys.
...somehow I knew that the head was going to be one of the parts left off on the 'car'. I am glad to know that BTR was NOT one of the things that I picked up. I love both Legos and Transformers, and I'm sure a lot of people like both, however I'm not so sure they go well together.
@ivanprime93 I didn't forget him, I chose not to mention him because he has nothing to do with the Armada Hot Shot character and that's what I'm critical of, not the name.
thanks for the feedback. it says a lot about u that u were willing to take even just 30 seconds to respond to a fan. you really are awesome and i cant wait for the next plastic addict, but i understand you need time and id rather wait a long time for a good episode than not wait for a rushed half assed one.
@Bsword640 He didn't have a Universe 1 toy. Only thing left named Hot Shot that I didn't touch was the Spychanger and it has nothing to do with the character.
Hey im sure ur tired of hearing this but i really cant wait to see #1! ive read the other comments and ive even gone through the same problems with my channel so i understand completely. we all really want to see the worst of the worst. ur doing a great job though so just keep doing what ur doing!
I recently bought the BTR Optimus prime, my reason being if I had to get one it may as well be one of the leaders. And while I actually enjoy the tonka-fied truck mode, the robot mode? Yeah That lasted about 4 days before I tore it apart and made a new robot, it's more accurate to armada Optimus, and I managed to fix the awkward arms! But I wouldn't have even attempted to fix it if I didn't watch these BTR videos from you, TJ. So thank you!
Honestly I really like that toy. He's lacking some shoulder articulation but the rest is fine, I like his tank mode, really like his Minicon interaction.
Thanks TJ! I really needed something to cheer me up today. And as always this series delivers. Hilarious! Hmm, I wonder if #1 is anything I send you? I can think of at least one contender.
Afraid not. It's a Minicon port that all the BTRs come with, you can use it for the propeller but it's the same piece you find with any of the Armada BTRs.
I have been a plastic addict fan for a while now. I thoroughly enjoy your reviews of the craptastic and the garbagetacular. Your rushed reviews are also very amusing and entertaining. I understand that there are other projects that youre on with and various to do's on your list. I guess what Im getting at is what at least 10,000 other people are thinking. Where is video 30? I see a similar comment and see a reply but I think that my way of asking is a little more polite perhaps?
Mine broke both of his arms off at the folding hinge. Fortunately I found one that was just missing a leg and the tail and put mine on. That one is still sturdy all the way around.
No, that's what normal Transformers are meant to be. When you make Transformers building toys, you have to decide if it's going to be more like Transformers, or more like Legos. BTR is more like Transformers, simplified to the point where the building element is a waste cause there's nothing creative you can do with it, and both the building half and Transformer half suffer as a result.
Since it doesn't do much in either mode, I actually think that black crosspiece was made to store the head. They just forgot to put it in the instructions. Or forgot to tell the guy drawing them.
It is, I appreciate that, but it really doesn't change the answer. If a video is not up, it means I am not capable of producing it right now, it's not other projects in the way, it's my actual life. This is still just a hobby, no matter how many fans I get, I can only produce videos when my time allows me, and lately I have had less and less time to do that. I promise you, as upset as 10,000 people probably are for the delay, I am more upset about it than all of them together.
@GeorgedIDK Mostly because at least on Thundercracker they tried, it looks better with it off but that's better than not trying to place the head at all.
For the Universe Hot shot mold, the back kibble detaches and actually becomes some sort of gloves that peg onto the forearm. This is documented in TFCC Dion... not sure if it works on hot shot though... :|
@korg13 Considering they're meant to be Hot Wheels-style toys that's not really a bad thing. The robot underneath is just to identify the toy, the point is to have Transformers cars and vehicles that work on your Hot Wheels tracks.
Something I've noticed since ep. 27 (though you managed this in some of early ones too) - your statement regarding a new style for Plastic Addict for the purposes of Reviewtopia has stayed fairly true to the form. By that, I mean you seem to explain things a little better, particularly for viewers who might not be that familiar with the Transformers franchise, which also leads to better comedy - much more so than constant sarcy rhetorical questions e.g. "that's not [insert flaw here] is it?"
***** For me I used to take the skeleton base and use it as a car and have the arms as cannons back then. Everything else yeah I had no clue what to do with it.
Ive seen a Transforming robot from another toy called Knex (think more complicated Tinker toys) that didnt have any parts left over and the only par you needed to remove was the gun. granted this thing had horrible articulation but it was the thought that counted
Send me a Private Message first with what you would like to send, I dont take surprise toys cause I dont want anyone spending money sending me something I already have or cant use in a video.
It's odd that here you say that thundercracker did the better thing with the head, but on his episode you said that it would be better to leave the head off. but other than that inconsistency, great vid
There's another comment on that subject TJ replied to and said this "In the case of Thundercracker, there was no play to put the head so it was better left off. On Hotshot, there was a place for it and they chose to leave it off."
the best btr set in my opinion was demolishor. that said, it is also utter scrap and lives in the bottom of my kreo box with Jetfire who is only slightly worse. of course I came up with fan modes to alleviate the issues. however demolishor's robot mode only leaves off two pieces which are east to find a place for on him
Well all BTRs are about as fun as trying to catch a baseball with your face, but Hot Shot made the list for a reason. Skyblast's main faults were the poorly thought part placement and the useless missile pod made just to boost his price point, and Thundercracker is almost as bad as Hot Shot but at least has better parts in robot mode and doesn't leave off anything in vehicle.
Great to finally get the chance to see this video; it was a fantastic review. As for a guess for #1 worst transformer in the collection, I have three guesses: Armada Optimus Prime given it's basically a fire hazard, one of your Titanium figures, given what you said in your Part 1 video of your collection and how you had a few you regretted, or Beast Machines Supreme Nightscream, if that one was anything like the Supreme Cheetor.
@TJOmega I think what he was asking about was at the beginning of the video you said "Since this is the last time I am going to be able to talk HotShot," He took it to mean Plastic Addict was coming to an end
In your Thundercracker review you said that it would be better if they left his head off, but here, you said what they did was better than leaving it off
I get that. I really do. Im an artist as hobby right now and my friends dont understand that a comic page doesnt make itself and often takes all damned day just to sketch out. I guess thats an avenue that people dont see is the delicate balance between artist and art. Anyhow. Appreciate yer answer. Have a good one!

@RialVestro I actually just got him last week and I actually really like the figure. I agree he's woefully unpainted but mine holds together in vehicle mode fine and compared to the previous two Sideswipes I find him far improved.
I actually THREW MINE AWAY about 5 months ago. I was organizing my Lego collection (a huge task) and I decided to just trash my BTR stuff. And, I really don't like Kre-O. I agree that it is a huge improvement over BTR, it still lacks in many ways. Oh and TJ, love the LDD screenshot. Here. I know you won't bother to look him up, but I think you would be impressed by a user by the name of boyzwiththemosttoyz here on TH-cam. (Im not being paid, just a huge fan)
When I saw the reveal of who the second worst transformer was I gasped. I mean its terrible, but you've already stuck the knife into that plenty and turned into a blood bath.
At least Ironhide has his helmet that can be tilted down to cover his eyes but i would've prefered if you pushed his head down into the torso and popped it back up with a button.
"Every version of Hot Shot has one thing in common: a sleek sports car mode."
Cybertron Defense Hot Shot: Am I a joke to you?
I know this video is reeeeally old, but I was rewatching it for funsies, and I just realized something. It appears this is a reply I missed to a comment I made, and even though it took me a while to see it, I appreciate the clarification.
Thank Primus for Construct-a-bots, for making the idea of a unifying skeletal structure work for customizable Transformers.
And make a ton of weapons for standard Transformers, at least those who can use 5mm posts and ports.
I regret spending the 10 bucks on the Thundercracker figure.
I agree, I had a few and I remember loving them
Eeeeeehhhhhh the plastic on the skeletal structure was crap
I remember when I got the exclusive AoE Grimlock and Silver Knight OP set, being excited, then having the rubber ball on Grimlock's arm get sheared off completely
Man I reamber sitting around waiting for these to come out.
My kid brother got this for a birthday once when he was little, and I played a large part in constructing it. The thing is, I found all the same flaws that you did, and I was only seven at the time! Whoever gave the go-ahead for this line deserves to be buried in a mountain of these failures...
TJomega: it is crap, it is a giant cluck of plastic.
Hasbro: Mr president of hasbro, we have a new recruit
@espio708 Afraid not, I demonstrated it just as it's shown in the instructions. Hasbro and Lego have a bit of a rivalry, it is like Takara and Bandai
Just grow some balls and rent out the license or something, hastak.
They have now
I actually reviewed her already and described her as almost Addict-worthy, I gave her points for a good vehicle mode and an alien design that almost worked, unlike Demolishor's.
isn't built to rule a lego knockoff
No
Yes
Nyes
Basically
I distinctly remember buying BTR sets when I was younger and NEVER seeing this one. My Walmart took one look at this toy and said "No. No, we draw the line here. No." Also Megatron.
Hey TJ, just wanted to say as a long time fan of your videos and a follower of your tweets, it is nice to see you have your creative mood back.
@GenericSupervillain3 Not in perspective. To be fair, with the Kre-Os, they made absolutely no attempt to do anything with the head, and the excess parts are even worse than this Hot Shot.
@sleeplessknight99 That's kind of an unfair judgement I think, I've reviewed the large scale Kre-O Optimus and found it an amazing improvement over BTR, they're designed far more like a licensed Lego set and function really well as building toys.
Kreo walked so that Lego Optimus could run.
And BTR kinda just flailed around like a fish out of water that tried to crawl.
...somehow I knew that the head was going to be one of the parts left off on the 'car'.
I am glad to know that BTR was NOT one of the things that I picked up. I love both Legos and Transformers, and I'm sure a lot of people like both, however I'm not so sure they go well together.

The line "Why is he pregnant?!" just slays me every time.
You made my day by posting this :D I love your videos, I've been watching Plastic Addict continuously! Keep it up, you are one funny guy!
It's not a matter of "still working on", it's about "having the time to work on", which no, if I did it would be done by now.
12:19 TJ: Ah. Come on Hotshot. Give me some articulation. Hotshot:(smashes to peices.)
@Bsword640 He didn't have a Universe 1 toy. Only thing left named Hot Shot that I didn't touch was the Spychanger and it has nothing to do with the character.

I can't wait for no 1!
@Togaoki Actually a friend of mine did that voice, it was first used in the TJ TV review of WMAC Masters.
The only fun I see for BTR hot shot is throwing it out the window and see how fast it could break. And if nothing breaks, we try again and again.
Honestly I really like that toy. He's lacking some shoulder articulation but the rest is fine, I like his tank mode, really like his Minicon interaction.
@Bumbleblogn I never said that, did I? Just because I'm reviewing the worst TF I have doesn't mean there aren't any more bad toys.
Thanks TJ! I really needed something to cheer me up today. And as always this series delivers. Hilarious! Hmm, I wonder if #1 is anything I send you? I can think of at least one contender.
I find it funny how he's tearing apart armada Jolt while the one from the ROTF line is right next to him.
Built To Rule Hot Shot looks More like a Bumblebee
Afraid not. It's a Minicon port that all the BTRs come with, you can use it for the propeller but it's the same piece you find with any of the Armada BTRs.
So three of the six hotshot toys we have been given have been reviewed for plastic addict?
Half of them were good and the other half were crap
I have been a plastic addict fan for a while now. I thoroughly enjoy your reviews of the craptastic and the garbagetacular. Your rushed reviews are also very amusing and entertaining. Unfortunately some transformers toys don't get the wheel right and the wheel is actually very tight
@Vorahk3985 Sorry, that was part of a storyline I ended up canceling. Not saying it's not #1, but the lead-up to that was canned.
It's done when it's done. That's the status on any video I have in the works, so there's never a need to ask.
I feel like a star wars nerd in line for episode 3 for how long ive been wanting to see this
Vehicle looks alright at least, the robot mode may look a bit de- OH MY GOD, BURN IT WITH FIRE!
Since it doesn't do much in either mode, I actually think that black crosspiece was made to store the head. They just forgot to put it in the instructions. Or forgot to tell the guy drawing them.

I still remember finding out about these back in 2005 and I thought they looked bad.
Thanks for your entertaining vids, TJ. This lump of misshapen bricks is just... pitiable.
@TransFan180 You mean the storyline elements I canceled?
@korg13 Considering they're meant to be Hot Wheels-style toys that's not really a bad thing. The robot underneath is just to identify the toy, the point is to have Transformers cars and vehicles that work on your Hot Wheels tracks.
I just realized this is basically Prototype Kreo! Look at that engine!
I knew it I freaking knew it even before you said it was the head , the way you were describing it I know it was the head , it was so obvious
Something I've noticed since ep. 27 (though you managed this in some of early ones too) - your statement regarding a new style for Plastic Addict for the purposes of Reviewtopia has stayed fairly true to the form. the number 1 solution to have fun with it.....take it apart and make something different
***** For me I used to take the skeleton base and use it as a car and have the arms as cannons back then. Everything else yeah I had no clue what to do with it.
I love the Twisted Metal reference!
My god, it's as if it's screaming "KILL ME!"
Ive seen a Transforming robot from another toy called Knex (think more complicated Tinker toys) that didnt have any parts left over and the only par you needed to remove was the gun.

What in the nine realms of hell did that thing spawn from
@TJOmega Cool! He does a convincing Vegeta.
... Oh, and good video. :B
Sorry, I felt the urge to put that in there. All your videos are good!
have you ever tryed combing all them or change their parts around or used them to make something else? who knows it may make them better
the best btr set in my opinion was demolishor. that said, it is also utter scrap and lives in the bottom of my kreo box with Jetfire who is only slightly worse. of course I came up with fan modes to alleviate the issues. however demolishor's robot mode only leaves off two pieces which are east to find a place for on him
I'd say that Armada scavenger would shock me a bit
(his robot mode had good proportions, and his vehicle mode has a usable cockpit and moving treads)
@9solar9 maybe but you cant argue the fact that even without jetfire and overload he still has good play value

I guess thats an avenue that people dont see is the delicate balance between artist and art. Anyhow. Appreciate yer answer. Have a good one!
Why didn't BTR put the bumper and the side pieces in the to make it look good
@MrSonic5 Because the alt mode was not in the movie, the tail and the waist have decent movement, the guns are pretty cool, and the mouth gimmick is pretty damn cool... Also the figure is unbelievably gorgeous!
We've exceeded 10k subscribers. I'm excited for the #1 worst
Just discovered you today by sheer accident. I haven't laughed this hard in a long time.
I will be shocked... SHOCKED, I tell you, if the final member of your worst list is anything other than the abomination that is ROTF Scalpel/The Doctor. How can you go wrong with a tiny boring box with binoculars attached that turns into a bug thing that has fragile little legs that can't support itself and fall off constantly? Worst toy I've ever bought. If it's NOT number one, it SHOULD be.
The Vehicle Mode looks more like a truck than a car.
@TJOmega well tj you did say that you could keep doing that one since you could do it no matter how many bad toys you got cause it could be him just having more plans to take you down
hey, tj!!!! in 04:54, that piece is to connect jolt's propellers to the body,no connecting jolt to the toy.
I actually loved this toy as a kid
Why do I get the feeling the design mantra was “do not. There is no try”
NO BTR I WAITED SOO LONG FOR THIS
@RialVestro I actually just got him last week and I actually really like the figure. I agree he's woefully unpainted but mine holds together in vehicle mode fine and compared to the previous two Sideswipes I find him far improved.
I call that Armada BTR Bumblebee
@wesleyv1 Yes, since G1 figures have to be judged differently they aren't reviewed for Plastic Addict.
I can picture Sweet Tooth driving Built to Rule Hotshot with the ankle joints as guns...
TJ that was hilarious. It actually made my day. But when is the next one going to come?
I actually THREW MINE AWAY about 5 months ago. I was organizing my Lego collection (a huge task) and I decided to just trash my BTR stuff. And, I really don't like Kre-O. I agree that it is a huge improvement over BTR, it still lacks in many ways. Oh and TJ, love the LDD screenshot. Here. I know you won't bother to look him up, but I think you would be impressed by a user by the name of boyzwiththemosttoyz here on TH-cam. (Im not being paid, just a huge fan)
Welcome back
@TJOmega i htink its prime since i heard another youtuber Baltmatrix had one and it set part of his house on fire because of the electronic gimmick
I think I had the tank one, and it was way worse, the treads were bad and it kept falling apart
When I saw the reveal of who the second worst transformer was I gasped. I mean its terrible, but you've already stuck the knife into that plenty and turned into a blood bath.
At 8:06 it looks more like a submarine, that was craped out from the Red October
You could use the head for firing the missiles.
At least Ironhide has his helmet that can be tilted down to cover his eyes but i would've prefered if you pushed his head down into the torso and popped it back up with a button.
I just noticed that the engine block looks the same as the Kreo engine blocks. Are they the same company?
Ok they are not the same company
But the pieces look similar still
+tyler hughes They are both Hasbro but to my knowledge Kreo doesn't use any BTR parts.
+TJOmega They do use some parts from BTR for their Kre-O builds. The engine is the same one used on Knock Out in the Wheeljack vs Knock Out set.
TJOmega let's hope not, kreo used a couple of cheating blocks but not as many as BTR
I've got the standard Fire Valkyrie but that's it.
