It's frustrating how little Canada lets out about the existence of life before the settlers (such as myself), and they only assume dream catchers and tobacco came from white North Americans such as myself. I've tried explaining when I was in the Philippines (a country previously colonized by America, & an old US territory), and they had absolutely no idea whatsoever.

My mother speaks Cree, because she is a Cree woman from the Piapot band 1st Nation in Saskatchewan, Canada; and she never taught us her language because of the laws of assimilation, we have to learning the English language and religion while attending schools & growing up here in California.

My young cousins, who still live on the reserve, don't speak the Nehinaw language. I grew up in the city and lost touch with my Dad's side of his heritage, as did he. He is still pretty fluent though. Time to teach my kids some words.
